Mother had told him he was free to go out on his own. She had told him that he must stay within view of the mouth of the den at all times; she told him that he ought to stay in brush and shade and hidden places; she told him to be always on the lookout, and wary of strangers. But she told him he was free to go out on his own.
At first, Sepoko hadn't wanted to leave the shelter and safety of the den at all. If he never left the cave, he risked nothing, but his mother had pushed him. He needed the experience, she said. His brother, Ajabu'Kenai, had told him terrifying things about the oustide world. Mother and father had insisted that Ajabu exaggerated, that he was just trying to scare him, but Sepoko wasn't sure. Eventually the amber cub had forged anxiously out into the open, long after his brother had taken off on his own. He surveyed the landscape with pale silver eyes and froze. It was so...
...big.
There were so many different colors and forms and shades of light, though. It dazzled his eyes. It delighted and terrified him at the same time. Slowly, he padded up close to a stream, drank from it, and crouched amongst some reeds to study his surroundings.

Jedi snickered inwardly as she slipped from the family's little clearing beside the waterfall. Siku and Kiji, her mother and father were extremely laxed on where there cubs went and gave the free reign. She was not usually one for wandering, but lately she needed time alone, especially with the coming news that they would soon be traveling. The Pridelands..will my realitives think I'm a chubby little fool?
The black and white juvenile trotted, her chubby furry belly swaying as she went, she was quite a bit heavier than her sisters, but it was mainly because she ate more, she was just as active. Janja was curious, and Ekevu..Eke was just..bossy and smart, that's what she was she wanted to push little Jedi to the edge. As she walked she began to hum loudly a tune that was utterly random and awkward.

For a brief time, Sepoko became affixed on his own reflection in the clear water of the stream. It wasn't so much that he was admiring himself; he never really thought he was anything special. He just couldn't think of anything else to do. He was mildly hypnotized by the sound and the rhythm of the flowing water. It didn't amuse him, but it occupied him for a while.
Then he heard a strange sound. First there was a faint rustling of approaching footsteps through the undergrowth, then... music? Odd music. It was unusual, it was new, and it alarmed Sepoko. His pale eyes widened and, frantic, he dove for cover in a nearby bush and watched between the leaves for approaching danger. If he were to be eaten, his mother and father would be ever so upset, and Sepoko didn't want that, no sir.

The two toned lioness stopped dead in her tracks as she noticed the light colored pelt of an orange cub dash into a bush near by, "Erm..I didn't startle you did I?" She said as she pushed her way through some foiliage, standing near where the cub had stood before retreating. Her voice was slightly high pitched and musical. She was bewildered by what he was doing before, staring at himself in the stream? Hopefully this cub was not like anyone the young lioness had met before, she was very used to conceited adults as well as cubs. Jedi really didn't have anything to be conceited about, she had little to no imagination, was quite round, and well...slower than most.
Jedi stood her ground in hopes that the orange blurr would come out and introduce himself, she was certainly not dumb enough to go searching after a smalll thing with claws!

No matter how pretty and melodic the young lioness' voice might be, Sepoko wasn't coming out. Not yet. After all, she was huge compared to him. Most things were huge compared to Sepoko; he was somewhat on the runty side of things for a cub his age. Anything remotely larger than him was a giant in his eyes, and therefore a threat.
However, she might be a giantess, but she seemed hurt that he'd run off. He hated the idea of hurting someone's feelings. For a moment he just sat there in the brush, debating with himself over which he wanted to risk; being eaten by a big lioness, or hurting the big lioness' feelings by hiding from her. Ultimately, Sepoko decided to risk getting eaten sooner than be rude. His mother had taught him better than that. So Sepoko sighed and falteringly peeked out from the bush, looking Jedi over carefully with pale steely eyes. "N-n-no," he stammered. "I... I mean... y-yes. A little." He blushed a bit. He wasn't sure what to say, or do with himself. He cleared his throat anxiously. "Um... wh-who are you?"

She was elated that he was actually going to come out, and as the bushes rustled and he peered through she made a sound that seemed to be half giggle half hiccup. "I am Jedi, and I live at the waterfall that powers this stream," she beamed slightly and flashed a meek smile, "I'm nothing to scared of, promise. I'm too dumb for someone to be scared of me..least that's what they say." she looked down at her paws, trying to seem less threatening.
"What's your name..?

Sepoko watched her solemnly, expressionless. His pale eyes scanned her over, trying to figure her out. His mother always told him that he ought to be careful around strangers. Well, Jedi was strange to him, which by definition made her a stranger, which concerned Sepoko and meant that yes, he ought to be careful. As much as she might try to look innocent, he didn't really know her, and he had to be wary about her. Jedi, she said her name was. Well, at least she was introducing herself first. That was a good sign, right? Or was it? Was she just trying to throw him off? He was so uncertain. He wished his mother and father had given him a more exact set of rules to follow on meeting new people beyond just "be careful around strangers". When she asked his name of him, he wasn't even sure if he ought to give it. Was he supposed to? Should he wait for something?
Oh... but she'd already given her name, and it would be rude not to reciprocate. Sepoko sighed a little. "Um... I'm Sepoko. I live... over there." He waved his paw vaguely in the direction of his cave... then gritted his teeth. Oh no. He shouldn't have told her where she lived. That was dumb. "I mean...!" he tried to ammend, but it was hopeless. Damage done. He dropped his eyes. "Oh."

The juvenile sat down abruptly and watched the little cub, had shhe been that small? Had her mother and father let her wander at that small? She of course had Eke and Janja at all times...but now she was on her own, wanting to make a little way in the world.
"Pleasure to meet you, Sepoko, you have a very lovely name, it sort of rolls off the tongue, dontcha think?" she bobbed her head up and down and smirked, "Over there, eh? I live around here too, but soon we will be leaving, the Pridelands are my mommy's first home, and we're going to see them!" She was excited and terrified at the same time to leave the comforts of the jungle.

Sepoko could feel Jedi's eyes all over him, and it made him uncomfortable. He watched her every move carefully. What was she looking him all over like that for? What was she thinking? Was she wondering how he tasted? Was that it. Sepoko shuffled back a bit to be sure to maintain a safe distance between the two of them.
And then she complimented him, and he blushed a little and twisted his paws into the ground shyly. "Heh... thank you," he whispered. "Momma says she named me in her own language, an' I ought to be proud." He nodded a bit, wondering if he should admit it, then wetted his lips on his tongue and added, "My, ah... my name means ghost." He looked up with pale grays, "'Cause of the color of my eyes an' all." He looked back down. He knew he should be proud of his name, love it, own it--that's what mommy said--but it always made him just a little uncomfortable. Ghost...
He let it drop and listened to Jedi about her journey. "Gosh, I can't imagine leaving the jungle," he commented in awe. "I've never known any other place. Momma says when we get older, we're gonna get to travel all over the world with her... but..." Here he trailed off and stopped. He wasn't entirely sure what 'but' was. All he knew was that 'but' was against momma's wishes, and he'd hate to disappoint his momma.

"Ghost?!" she exclaimed, "that's spooky! You're not really a ghost are you?" she said naively. Her smile was still there but her brow furrowed and she scooched back a bit across the ground.
"We'll leave soon..but I'm so scared to leave..it'll be fun! Daddy says we'll meet a lot of family, it's only me, my two sisters, and mommy and daddy here..but there will be a whole lot there!" she snickered and her butt seemed to wiggle on the ground in her excitment.

Sepoko frowned and hung his head in shame. It was times like this that, as much as he wanted to, he couldn't have the pride in his name his mother wanted him to have. "No," he murmured in quiet protest. "I'm not. Momma named me that 'cause of my pale eyes, she said. She calls me Her Little Ghost... but I'm not a ghost. I'm just a cub." He sniffled a bit. He hated it when people thought he was really dead. He hated it.
But he let it go.
As Jedi went on to talk about her upcoming travels, Sepoko looked up into her eyes, confused. Scared... fun? To Sepoko, those words did not belong in the same sentence by any stretch of the imagination. He listened patiently before saying anything (mommy always said it was rude to interrupt someone while they were talking, even if they were "prattling on uselessly"... he wasn't sure what 'prattling' was, but it sounded bad). He listened intently to everything she had to say and then, even as she wriggled in anticipation, he asked the question on his mind, "How can you be scared of something fun?" He paused. "Or... how can you have fun with something scary?" He really had no idea. That was the only notion that really struck him about her speech. Family was just mundane; family was all Sepoko really knew.
