We've all heard Dr. Sydney Freedman's famous quite, "pull down your pants and slide on the ice," but do any of you know what it means? It's been boggling my mind for quite some time.
What does it mean? IEditYourWorld

I guess it means to roll with the punches in life. The ice could be a metaphor for life.

The full quote is "lady's and gentleman take my advice pull down your pants and slide on the ice" and it means to every once in awhile to relaxe and let loos so you dont get overcomb by the mundaneness of society or as the cash was in M*A*S*H the stress they had to go through caused by the war and seeing the wounded or not being able to help the wounded no matter how much they felt the desire to they knew they couldnt do anything so they need too get away and relaxe every once in awhile.

So what you're really saying is "let go." Is that right? The run on sentence confused me a little. Quote: I guess it means to roll with the punches in life. The ice could be a metaphor for life. Hmmmmm... I never would have thought of using ice as a metaphor. Interesting thought. Thanks for your imput. IEditYourWorld

That's alright. So long as you explain your answer, than it's all good. Thanks for your response. IEditYourWorld

For the moment I am an English major (although that's soon going to change), so I tend to think like that.

It means Carpe Diem (latin for "Sieze the Day") It's Sydney's way of telling everyone to let go and enjoy life.

Wait, so it's not meant to be taken literal?!
That's the last time I trust a doctor...of any kind.
