Brass, of COURSE. cool I play the trombone. XP
Woodwinds aren't bad, though, don't get me wrong. Hehe.

xd Personally I like the woodwinds more, partly because I play flute. They both have different sounds, and I just like the woodwind sound more. 3nodding

Woodwinds! I originally wanted to play trumpet, but as it turned out, I couldn't buzz my lips worth squat, so I went with clarinet, my second choice. I'm glad now I did, I'd much rather hang out with a bunch of girls (I'm the only male woodwind, besides the saxophones) than some of those brass guys. *shudders*

it depends....i play woodwind (clarinet, flute, and alto), but it even played wrong it can sound ugly.....brass have a commanding, outragious sound, whereas woodwinds have a more light dancy sound or a romantic sound. Sometimes i like brass over woodwinds....it really relies on the music and the style in which the music was written....la la la la.....i still like woodwinds though. ^ ^ Yay to clarinets!

Actually, it's funny you mentioned this.
In one of the commercials the band made for Varsity Show, we spoofed the election, and asked people to choose which section will be head section.
They had the woodwinds and brass together. They sounded quite nice. then they put them to a "test". They sprayed water. The woodwinds ran, but the brass stayed and played strong.
then the percussion section was playing some awesome cadence, but when we got sprayed with water everyone took off their drums and ran around xd I found it quite funny xP Because that's exactly what our drumsection would do.
Then, if you've ever sen the Levi's Jeans commercial, where he takes the jeans off the manakin, and it follows him. Well, one of our teachers is a certified mime, and has a mime manakin in her room. So we used that, and switched jeans with the band uniforms. We even had the same song playing xd
Varsity Show is tomorrow night, It's gonna be bloody awesome ^__^

I would have to say woodwinds, because they have an advantage in the saxophone. If played well, it can sound like a brass or a woodwind, but most of the time is predisposed to one side or the other. I personally know both sides from Jazz Band and Concert Band, where they style is important to the musicality. But, the brass are fun. I want to learn mellophone for marching band.

yes you are right about some brass people greeting eachother with 'im better than you' but thats mostly the boys...especially if they are band officers. im a band officer but i dont think i greet people that way...i still love the woodwinds, the sound of em is beautiful, it flows more. but brass people just seem to be...stronger and more independant.

I chose woodwinds 'cause I'm a woodwind player, myself - I play flute and saxophone. I don't mind the brass, though. My second choice of instrument (after flute) was trumpet, if that tells you anything. And I can sort of play it, so....

Woodwinds. Brass is good at times, but it gives me headaches. There's only one exception: picolos. Can't stand 'em. gonk
