If your having a hard time, try droppin a guage in teh strings your using.. so if your on .10's, slap some .9's on it. I recently switched from .10's to .9's, and i can tap and hammeron so much easier its not even explainable.

Oh great, I just broke my .10 string so I grabed the only available I had, a .11.! Thanks for the advice. By the way how much distorion(Gain) do you need for good tapping?

sagebond76 Oh great, I just broke my .10 string so I grabed the only available I had, a .11.! Thanks for the advice. By the way how much distorion(Gain) do you need for good tapping? Not much if any. You can probably learn to tap at a slow pace, then work your way up to the speed that you need it to be. if you start fast, you won't have the proper technique due to the fact that instead of concentrating on your fingers, you'll be trying to keep up and go as fast as possible. Get a metronome and start slow so that every note is clear, then work your way up to the desired tempo. I do this with any passage that just blows my mind. It helps me "Program" my fingers to do what they need to do, then I just worry about how fast or slow they need to be. Another good plan is to pick a song with some tapping in it and learn it.

Its where you use a finger on your right handto tap notes on the fretboard, as well as the fingers of your frethand, using the force of the taps to sound notes as opposed to plucking the strings. A good example is the tapping portion of Van Halen's "Eruption". Its a great excercies if you want to start tapping, just set your metronome for about half the tempo of the song itself, and work it slowly. Thats how I'm learning, even though you don't tap much playin' the blues wink

I could tap blues any time of day, but it stil would have the FEELING in it. When i play the blues i feel my music, i dont pound the s**t out of the strings whilst tapping in the minor pent.

Lmao, yeah I know what you mean. Blues isn't really meant to be shredded. I mean, of course you can go for some fast licks and stuff sometimes but I get a lot of feeling from bending a note up real slowly, then maybe doing something fast *shrug* I love teh blues ^.^
