The air was crisp. Days were getting longer and the sun was getting warmer... But that changed nothing when it came to the brisk morning hours right before the sun rose. He had been awake all night, lost in thought, and now he stood overlooking the planes as cool puffs of air came from his nostrils. Sunrise. The last one he could remember clearly he'd watched just before the fire that had changed everything. He'd watched it because he'd told her that he would. He'd promised her that, no matter where they were, they would be watching the sun climb into the sky together. Had it truly been so long since he'd seen a sunrise?

Nostalgia continued the trudge through the snow, her chains dragging along behind her. They slowed her down constantly, but she didn't care. There was no place she was in a hurry to get to. She had spent the evening wandering, again, as she had many nights before, questioning herself as to why she had decided to inhabit this world. She had made acquaintances with the Soquili of this world, yet her heart still felt heavy. Was it wrong for her to be here? She knew she shouldn't question the Spirits' decisions, but she wanted answers. Answers that she would probably never get.
Feeling her legs tire out, she gently lifted herself up in the air by wings and floated onwards at her regular pace, barely off the ground. She noticed in the distance the sun rising over the horizon and smiled at its natural beauty. There were some things in this world that she adored, and the beauty of the sunrise and of the sunset were two of them. She had wished Jean was there to share it with her, but, as usual, he was nowhere to be seen. It saddened her that he dissapeared all the time, but she figured that it couldn't be helped. She would just have to watch another sunrise alone.
"You shouldn't be so melodramatic all the time," Nos said crossly to herself as she floated on, "No wonder people avoid you.. you're nothing but a weepy ghost mare."

He questioned the choice of the Spirits that had spared him every day. Every day that he walked the world it was for one reason and one reason alone... At least, that was what he had been trying to convince himself of. He was still here to avenge the wrongful deaths of those he had loved; those that he still loved. Then, if it wasn't too tarnished, perhaps he would find her and she would take him with her wherever it was that the Spirits rested.
His ears turned towards the sounds of a voice and, as it continued, his head turned as well. He couldn't miss the rise of the sun but he wouldn't be caught unaware either. There was someone else out there... A mare. A mare that seemed to give off an almost ethereal glow. Was she... One of the Spirits?
He shook his head, snorting softl to himself as he lowered his eyes only to lift them once more. Yes, she was still there. "Good morn', Lady."

Nos jerked her head up as she heard the low voice call out to her. She had been examining the ruffles on her sleeves, which seemed to find themselves soaking wet on a daily basis, due to the cold snow still on the ground. Startled, her wings set her back down on the teh soft snow and she peered into the near distance.
A dark, shadowy figure stood there regally, and she attempted to hurry her pace, curious as to the mystery of this Soquili. She hadn't realized anyone was around this area, and she mentally berated herself for not paying closer attention to her surroundings.
"And a good day to you as well," She called out in return.

"I didn't expect to see another soul this early. Or is it as late for you as it is for me? Have you been roaming the night wandering as well?" The hour itself was of no real matter to him. When he was awake, when he was asleep? It was all relative. Right now, it was the coming dawn that mattered.
He turned his head towards the sun, watching it rise slowly over the plains. Gold spilled over the patches of grass and snow, filling the land with a visual warmth, even if the air was still cold. "... So this is a sunrise."

Nostalgia smiled at the stallion, finally coming to a proper distance between the two of them. This was a treat, finding a mature-sounding Soquili such as this one. For too long, she had been introduced and accompanied by young foals and silly mares and stallions, so it was refreshing to finally come across one who seemed wise to the world.
Nodding her head and ignoring the glare of her horn, she agreed with him. "Yes... I must confess, I fail to see a need to keeping time. My life seems to consist of nothing but wandering." She smiled sadly and came up next to the stallion, watching the sun begin it's rise above the lands. This Soquili... he seemed saddened by something. Nostalgia couldn't put her hoof on it, but she wasn't going to pry. She knew far too well that when there were issues, they always were bound to time. Whether something happened in the past, something to worry about in the future, or present problems, they all, in one form or another, dealt with cruel hands of time.
The gold and shades of yellow illuminated the land, turning all that was dark into light, and Nos watched on with silence. Sunrise, sunset, they came and went. It didn't matter to her which it was, just as long as it was.
Finally, she turned to him and studied his expression. The solemn stallion was jet black all over, including his curly mane, but his face was stark white, save for the lines around his mouth and eyes... and a fiece looking scar running down one eye. While he might look intimidating to some, she found him to be more of an enigma. But then again, she probably looked quite enigmatic herself, with her glow and clothing, not to mention her translucent wings.
She turned back towards the sun and continued to watch the large star rise up high in to the sky, its journey across the sky neverending.

His last encounter had been with a vibrant mare who had reminded him of a childhood long past... A time that no longer was and a young, carefree stallion that no longer existed. Each of his encounters had brought memories to the surface. Yes, many things could be blamed on the hands of time. There was never enough of it. Everyone was always too late. Always, in one way or another.
"Your life and mine alike, Lady." He turned to her after the sun's light bathed the plains, offering her a slight smile that lingered somewhere on the bitter edge of saddness despite its warmth. The markings around his mouth kept any smile from seeming as bright or as friendly as it was meant to be.
As he turned to face her it would become clear that the 'scar' was indeed just another marking on his face and it was over both eyes. It was almost as if the Great Spirits had painted his face, predicting something durring his youth that he knew about only in his adulthood. It was both cruel and kind. It was who he was.
"It has been years since I've watched the sun rise into the sky. Although I do not know your name, I thank you for sharring that with me. I had never watched one truly alone before."

Smiling, she shook her head. "I apologize... where are my manners this morning? My name is Nostalgia, and, I might add, I am very happy to have someone join me in watching the sunrise." Turning slightly to one side, she continued, only softer, "I only wish I could agree with you and say that I've never seen it alone before."
She turned back and took the opportunity of him facing her to examine his appearance even more so than before. Now that she had a better look at him, she could tell that the mark on his eye was indeed not a scar, but just a marking, symmetrical to another one that slashed across his other eye. She had seen colorful and elaborate Soquilis in her short time here in this land, but he was the first to really intrigue her. She wondered what his parents had to have looked like to produce such an.. interesting combination that resulted in his looks. They weren't horrible looking, no, but they captivated her.
She caught his small smile, and returned one of her own. She wondered what he was thinking, having that forlorn expression on his face... and shook her head in disgust at herself. It was not her place to intrude and ask questions. If the stallion wanted to reveal his issues with her, he would do so by his own decision.

"Nostalgia..." He spoke her name as if it were simply the word, letting it roll off of his tongue. Yes, that's what the past couple weeks had been about. Nostalgia. Thoughts deep and tormenting on levels that came so close to pleasure at times before crashing back downe. "Nostalgia." This time it was her name he spoke. "That is a beautiful name."
Again, that slight smile, this time seeming a bit larger than it had at last. "My name is Draven, Eric Draven." He nodded slowly, lowering his head as if bowing to the mare before letting his eyes return to the sky. "Every time the sun rose, no matter where I was or who I was with, I knew that there was one special someone out there who was always watching the sun rise with me."
From the corner of his eyes he looked to her once more, seeming almost impish with his smile. Childlike. Carefree despite his sorrows. "Afterall, as long as you establish that you know you'll never watch one alone again."

"Thank you," she said softly, her own name sounding foreign to her when spoken through his voice. "And Eric is a very handsome name. Or do you preferred to be called Draven?"
She turned to admire the sky as he did, listening to his words. She had never thought about others watching the sunrise and sunset at the same time as her... she had only focused on being physically alone while it occurred. The thought of having others watch it along with her gave her a feeling of comfort, a feeling that no longer felt lonely.
She couldn't help but smile at his grin; he seemed, for a moment, so much happier and carefree. Oh what she wouldn't give to be carefree, to have no worries. But then... if one didn't have worries, then what was there to do with life? A perfect life was a boring life, as unhappy as she was to admit that. No one would ever learn any lessons if there were no struggles to be forced to deal with.
"I sometimes wonder if the Sun ever tires of its job." Nos said aloud, speaking her thoughts. "I know.. it sounds so silly, but I've always pondered that. Perhaps the sun is lonely too, rising and falling by itself, the moon so far away."

"Draven..." He nodded slowly. All his life that was what he had been called as if that first part of his name was nothing... Untiil she said it. She had called him Eric and the world had stopped and, for the longest time, he hadn't wanted to be called anything else.
Life, as far as he was concerned, was filled with both ups and downs. Often they equalled one another and things met a strange balance. Other times? Other times something so bad happened that it seemed as if it would never be right again. He wanted so badly for things to be right again. He wanted... To rest.
"The Sun's soft caress gives the Moon what it needs to glow at nght. Although they are awake at two very different times they never forget one another and, every so often, they meet in the sky and the world goes dark." His pale eyes drifted towards the mare once more. "Everyone grows weary of their duties; the roles that they have been cast into; their life. The Sun goes on every day because he must." Just as he did.

She nodded, understanding his words all too well for her own liking. She knew what it meant, that word, duty. Her role had been cast into existance for that very purpose... to serve her duty under the Spirits' watchful eyes. She had watched lifetime after lifetime pass by, unable to live her own, until now. She still didn't know the Spirits reasonings for allowing her to walk and live among her... 'live'.. breatheren was, but she was grateful all the same. But if she could only fill that aching gap in her soul, would she ever begin to feel that faint hope of contentment. She knew that her mate here on the land had done his best to see that she was happy, but his constant dissapearance left nothing but dissapointment to her, and her heart, no, her soul ached for contentment. She now knew it was not love she was after... but if it wasn't love, what was it?
"But why must it go on? Can't it pass the duty on to another?" She asked, looking at him helplessly as her mind snapped back into reality. "It isn't doomed to remain under that same duty forever... is it?"

"No, not doomed, Nostalgia. Never doomed. Cursed, perhaps, but never doomed." He nodded slowly a soft, forlorn sigh passing his lips before he managed to smile once more. "Curses can be broken... Afterall, it can't rain all the time."
That statement had been his motto when he was younger and, even now, he couldn't help but think of it. It still rang true on the long days where it seemed as if the night would never end... On days where all he did was wait for dawn, even with the sun high in the sky.
"Sometimes... I find myself wondering if she's out there somewhere. Or if it's just her spirit that's watching me along with the others. And sometimes... I don't truly feel as if I'm watching the sun rise or set by myself anymore." He closed his eyes, lowering his head slowly. "Deep down, a good rest and a family... Peace, quiet, and knowledge that just as the sun rises, it will also set. Isn't that what everyone wants?"

"No, I suppose it can't." She said softly, her long braids falling down in front of her face as she lowered her head. She snapped her head back to cause the braids to fall behind her ear and out of her line of vision.
"Who's out there, Draven?" she asked, looking over at him, then out towards the land before them. She didn't think he meant literally, but she looked anyhow. "And I don't know what everyone is after. I couldn't even tell you what I'm after... and that's the problem."
Nostalgia sighed and glanced back at him, reading his expression. "I thought I would be happy finding someone to love and love me, but it hasn't worked out at all like I had expected. I thought being loved is what the whole 'life' thing is supposed to be about? It's overrated, if you ask me. Now I'm stuck here, feeling empty, and I don't know what to do about it!"

"My mate..." Why had he said that? Why had he told her? He hadn't even told that to the black and white striped mare that had questioned him about his past. His eyes remained closed as he tilted his head towards the sky, feeling a breeze ruffle through his mane.
"She isn't though. She can't be. The Spirits don't leave creatures like her to wander aimlessly as I have. She's happy wherever she is... Waiting for me." One day he'd join her again but, for now?
His eyes opened as he turned his head towards the mare who seemed in need of a companion even if that companion was no more than a friend. "Life is about far more than being loved. Being loved is but part of it... A glorious part, yes, but not the end all. It doesn't often work out perfectly the first time either. Life is... Filled with trial and error. Perhaps you need to fill that emptiness with... A friend? Someone who understands you or, at least, where you are coming from."
