Sex laws vary from state to state. I do not believe that there is such a thing as attempted rape, at least not in the US. Depending on what actually happened, it may or may not qualify as some sort of sexual offense, however.
Lying to someone to make them sleep with you is not rape. If it were, then pretty much all adults would have at least one ex behind bars. Even though the person lied, there was still consent. People lie. That's the way it is. They lie for sex, for money, for power, for whatever. That's a life lesson. The police can't come and arrest every single person who lies to us. We just have to learn to be safe and not necessarily believe everything that we are told.
So, there's your answer if you were just curious to know. However, if you wanted to know because that happened to you or someone you know, then like I said, you could see if any behavior qualified as some sort of sexual offense. The lying does not, however.
There are various sites that break down sex laws. I like this one http://www.nycagainstrape.org/survivors_legal.html, but like I said, the laws vary by state. This one is for my state. Your laws may or may not be different. They are usually all fairly similar, however, so you can look at that site to get a clearer idea of the laws. They vary on things such as age (for statutory rape laws), punishment (length of prison time), and other such details.

Arianaa thanks =) and now that you phrased it that way with the lying i fel stupid for asking XP because i know it happens i dunno wow XP haha sprry for that waste of your time but thanks I know, wording does make a huge difference, doesn't it? Because sometimes you think something like, "Gee, if it's a lie, then could it be rape?" But then when you start to think about it and put it into different words, you can clearly see why it can't be rape. That sure doesn't make it right or moral, but it doesn't make illegal either. It's unfortunate, but it happens. We get lied to about a lot of things in our life. That's not our fault though. We have to fall for lies sometimes in our lives.

Yes, there is such thing as attempted rape. It's usually classified as assault in court I think. And lying, manipulation... that can constitute rape in some situations, or it can be sexual abuse. Not sure on the technicalities.

I don't know if it is actually called that, but someone can attempt to rape someone and not succeed. I don't know what that would be called...sexual abuse/harrassment.
