Ravii was pleased by the kill. The scent of blood lingered fresh in the evening air, the setting sun and sparkling stars her only witness. The hunt had taken hours, but the reward was well worth it. She wouldn't sleep hungry tonight, thankfully!

Resting between her paws was a very unhappy raven. The birds featheres were ruffled, and its neck was easily snapped in two. The avian had lost its game of tag with the wolf, and the blood that stained the air was proof.

Bird catching wasn't an easy thing to do, but Ravii hhad to try. There were remains of a mutilated carcass about fifteen feet away from where Ravii sat. The carcass was litterally nothing but bones, and a few small scraps of flesh. Nothing she was going to pick at, but a good enough prize for the scavengers in the area. A flock of ravens had been picking at the last of the remains, and Ravii had seen a lovely oppurtunity for a snack.

Staring at the group, she'd suddenly spring at them and pounce, jaws snapping wildly in hopes of landing contact with their flesh. For two hours, the birds had flown away, perched for a bit to let Ravii wander off, and then return to the last of their pickings.

Rinse and repeat, the process would begin again. She'd pounce, they'd fly, and she was left hungry! Well, that was until the fates smiled down upon her and one raven didn't make a quick enough escape.

Ravii had won her prize, and it was time to enjoy the meal. It wasn't a feast, but it would keep her stomach content. Ripping away at the bird, the violet wolf ignored the rest of the world around her.

For now, it was time to eat.

If it weren’t for the persistent rumble of her stomach, or the luxurious smell of prey drifting through the air, the teal pup would’ve stayed hidden in her little hollow under the log. But, well, things didn’t work that way.

Now cautiously sliding through the vegetation, ears and tail down with pillars bent to keep stomach low, the little femme followed her twitching nose. For the past several days she had been scavenging on what ever had been left behind by others. Occasionally she’d get a frog or rodent, but most of the time those were deemed more as playmates than food, and so, the hunger always went on.

Creeping on, the scent was growing ever stronger with each step. She could hear crows cawing in near-by trees. They sounded…disturbed, angry. So intent of smelling the prey, however, and even though she had been listening to her surroundings, Nen didn’t know there was another wolf in the proximity until she was practically upon the other.

The pup froze mid-step just mere inches from the other canine’s side.

…Oh god.

Ravii, typically quite aware of her surroundings, was intent on ripping the raven to pieces. Feathers were falling out of the bird as she attempted to dismember the creatures wing from its body. A cracking of bone, a quick tug, and . . . .snap!

Wing was thoroughly removed.

Eyes bright, she glanced over just in time to see she wasn't alone.

White fluff, with teal stripes, was staring at her as if she were a monster. Wing hanging out of her mouth, Ravii did nothing but stare back.

If it had been an adult wolf, her hackles would have raised and her teeth bared. This was her kill, this was her meal, and she would not stand to have another bully her away from it!

Even an older adolscent, Ravii would have warned them away.

But a pup. . .? One that looked so intimidated?

It had been a long time since she'd run in to small one. So the cream and violet smeared female wasn't entirely sure how to react.

Ears pricked foward, more out of curiousity, Ravii lowered her head to drop the wing beside the dead crow. Food could wait.

"Why hello there," she greeted softly, voice gentle and blue eyes bright. There was no hostility in her voice or actions, though she didn't make any motion to move away from her kill. "No need to be afraid, I won't harm you."

She threw the latter in as an after thought. Ravii was NOT going to eat the pups head off! The pup couldn't truly think she was that cruel! Though Ravii didn't doubt that some wolves out there were.

Pale lanterns stared back unblinkinly for a few seconds. She watched, her body still frozen, each muscle of the other wolf move as it put the wing down, as it swiveled its ears, as it spoke...everything. Oh what to do, what to do?!

Still looking like a deer in headlights, the pup's jaw opened a little, then closed, and then reopened. She wanted to say something, but words were becoming stuck in her throat. She curled her tail under her stomach and glanced at the mangled carcass of the bird at the wolf's paws. And then, after a few more minutes of staring and stuttering out air, the pup made vocal contact.

"T-t-th-that's n-n-not what the other wolf said. The...th-the one who wanted me de-dead..." She stuttered softly, her words coming in some sort of rhyme... er, well, it would've been more apparent had she been able to say more. After the last word her throat seemed to clog up again.

The amused light that had danced so freely in Ravii's blue eyes dimmed as she processed the stuttered, trembling words. Oh dear . . . The female had run in to her fair share of less-than-amicable canines. Like night and day, it seemed that good was just as a tainted with evil and darkness. Gentle spirited, Ravii was not one of those types of wolves!

It appeared that the pale, teal-striped pup had ran in to the wrong crowd. "Who said that?" She asked, a small frown crossing her features. It wasn't out of anger towards the pup, but concern. Just let Ravii have two minutes alone with such a creature.

There was a difference between survival and plain cruelty! To be selfish to care for ones own needs was not the same thing as being abusive and coniving. What were the woods coming to these days?

Realizing that perhaps her expression and concern might be misread as anger or agression, Ravii gave a soft, reassuring whine in her throat. Relaxing her expression, she ducked her head, extending a playful paw towards the pup. "Rest assured, that's not what all wolves think! You're safe here, girl, that I can guarentee."

Meal forgotten, Ravii gave the pup a smile. "I'm Ravii, and it's a great pleasure ot meet you." There - a more pleasant greeting! Perhaps that might reassure the young one, to know her name.

The first question from the larger female went unanswered. Nuenen couldn't remember much about that other wolf except for the fact that she had been mostly black, and a one color description didn't help much around here.

Looking back at the female, she blinked and twitched an ear as if almost in some sort of slight confusion. Was this "Ravii" actually nice? She was seeming like it; with the pawing, the whining, the glimmers of concern.

"Nuenen..." the pup replied. She was still on edge; her tail still between her legs, her body crouched (but not as much), and her ears were still almost flat against her head.

Ravii watched the wolf pup, and saw that the fear and concern was still written all over the pups body language. She was practically radiating anxiety! No, no, that just wasn't the way Ravii rolled. That wasn't to say the female was a push over - far be it! She knew when to stand her ground, and when to walk away.

With a young soul like Nuenen's, there was no need for dominance. It was clear enough the little one knew the roles of dominance and submission. Ravii felt no need to press her advantage, but she did want to get the pup to relax.

"Nuenen," she let the name roll of her tongue, enjoying the way it flowed. "That's a very pretty name." Her words weren't spoken out of politeness, but out of sincerity. What name was 'Ravii' in comparison?

To prove her good nature, Ravii stretched out, rolling to her side and flopping her head against the ground. She twisted a bit, extending her proffered paw further at Nuenen, a playful little whine echoing her sentiments. "Are you out here by yourself, or do you have family nearby?"

In such a silly and relaxed position, Ravii couldn't think of doing anything more to reassure the pup. Her ears were realxed, her tail tip thumping lazily against the ground, and even the protection of her prey had been forgotten. It still rested before her, but she doubted Nuenen was a thief.

Ravii would get back to the dead bird momentarily, after she got to know more about the pup.

"Thank you..." Nen replied to the compliment given to her in the same soft voice as before.

Eyes watched Ravii roll onto her side and then glanced down at the extended violet paw. The adult's body just radiated a calm feeling that was now tickling the outer layer of the teal pup's senses.

Still in a cautious fashion, Nuenen lowered herself to her small haunches and then let her front half rise until she was in some sort of curved sitting position. Nose twitched as she took quick sniffs of the other's paw before the question asked of her registered.

"There are three others, sisters and brothers, but I am lost from them now...and I still don't know how..."

So she was seperated from her family? The pups response was vague, and could mean a variety of things. Had her siblings and family left her, or had she wandered away? If they truly were seperated, how had it happened? Had she wandered off or taken a wrong turn and got lost? It was unclear, but Ravii didn't feel she should push the subject.

The fact that no family appeared to be near could only mean one thing - the pup was alone.

Ravii had a soft spot for lone creatures. She had grown up alone and packless, with no one to defend her except herself. There were many times she'd starved and many times she thought herself near death - exactly HOW she'd managed to make it to adulthood, even Ravii didn't know. So to hear Nen speak of such confused abandonment, the cream female couldn't help but want to help.

Ravii hadn't noticed the pups flaring nose, or her previous, wistful gaze at the dead bird. The violet and cream female was hungry, but could go without. Nen, on the other hand, had absolutely no way of surviving if she missed a meal.

Maternal instinct all but radiated out of Ravii. "We'll worry about figuring out your situation later. Here, I can only imagine you might be hungry." Picking up the battered body of the raven, she rose to her feet and closed the distance between Nen and herself.

She dropped the bird before Nen, and flopped, lazily down. Reaching over with her paw, she dragged the discarded wing and began to eat. "Go ahead and eat your fill - there's plenty to go around."

For a pup, it could have been a feast.

For Ravii, the snack was now nothing more than a nibblet. But that was fine. She'd finish the wing and eat whatever Nen didn't want.

Nuenen looked dumbfounded from the bird carcass to Ravii. For her? How could one be this nice? The pup didn't understand, but questions were forgotten suddenly when her stomach growled. The bird smelled so nice...

Oh screw it.

Without another questioning look to the larger female, Nen placed an azure dupe on the tattered food item and started to pluck off the feathers. She sneezed every now and then, but a gentle 'murr' sounded from her throat as she continued to eat.

It didn't take long for Ravii to finish the wing. There wasn't much meat on the raven pinion, but it served enough to settle the rumblings in her stomach. Chewing on a few of the bones, and cleaning loose down and feathers from her teeth, blue eyes flickered over to the small teal and white one.

She had to hide an amused smile at the sight. The pup had to have been ravenous with the way she was tearing in to the meat. Licking clean some blood from her muzzle, the female tilted her head to the side. "Don't choke now," she warned with a laugh, tail tip wagging in delight. "I'm going to assume, with how quickly you're eating, the bird is quite satisfactory?"

Depending on how hungry the pup was, would a raven be enough? Perhaps, perhaps. Though Ravii would now have to do some fishing from the nearby river to satisfy the rest of her hunger. Oh well. She could worry about that later.

(( x__x sorry this took so long ))

Nen seemed to ignore Ravii's question as she tore at the bird, but only some minutes after there was nothing left but some bones, stringy tendons, and feathers. it was after she disgarded a feather from her nose did the little female give an affirmative nod.

"Thank you." She said, meekly, and lowered herself back onto her haunches. Skull tilted at the other wolf, but why, even she didn't know. Just seemed like something to do.

((No worries! I'm in no rush. n.n ))

Ravii watched as the pup all but inhaled the bird. Hopefully Nen's hunger was sedated - she was a growing pup, afterall, and their appetites could be voracious! Still, there were a few tidbits left. Perhaps Ravii would eat them later, or just leave them for the carrion to dispose of. A few bones, some loose down and fathers . . . didn't make much of a meal.

Rolling to her side, the cream female studied the pup for a moment, before reaching out a paw playfully at the girl. "So tell me Nen - how do you keep yourself fed all alone? Do you know how to hunt or just search for leftovers?"

Ravii remembered loning it as a young one, and the life had not been easy. Surviving on one's ability to catch prey had been quite difficult. The female had been close to starvation many a time, so she could only imagine how Nen was faring.

As Nen already had discovered, not ever wolf was generous or kind to the lost. And if she didn't have energy to run or escape from potential threatening encounters, then her life might not last very long at all. Maternal instinct bled throughout Ravii like ink through thin paper. She couldn't help but wonder about the pale and teal pup .

Pale lanterns flicked to the face of Ravii and her ears flicked from the question asked of her. She studied the markings on the other's face for a second as she thought of what to say, or how to say it.

"Um..." she started, but trailed off softly right afterwards. The response wasn't even a hard one. it wasn't like the question was some riddle or something. "Both. Sometimes I-I'm with a few other's like myself," she was reffering to her age," but we break apart and then reform...sort of like water going around rocks in the river..."

(( o_O weird answer, I know. The RP I'm in where she's with the other pups isn't finished and I don't know what their future will be, so yeah...leaving that up in the air. ))

Well that was a relief. . . somewhat. At least the little teal and white pup wasn't completely alone! At least there were a few that should could depend on, if need be, a few she could at least call friends. The more one knew, the better.

"Well," Ravii started, flicking her ear in contemplation, "That's better than having no one, right? Perhaps with a little time, you and those you know could stick around with a more . . . permanant bond."

It was possible. Puppy packs weren't a new and unusual circumstance in this part of the forest. They weren't necessarily ideal packs, but any thing was better than nothing. To be out alone, to fend for oneself, wasn't easy. If starvation wasn't breathing down ones neck, then disease and predators were!

How many wolves didn't survive their puphood? How many wolves weren't around because they weren't fit or strong or smart enough. The she-wolf decided to stop the thoughts before they began, else she'd only fret more about Nen and the possibility (or lack thereof!) of a futre.

((Sorry for the crappy post. *laughs* My muse just . . . .died. ))
