I did some calesthenics today and my stomach was killing me for hours afterward. Are there any exercises I can do that will keep me in shape and not be harmful to the baby? Another problem is that some exercises are awkward with my swollen stomach. What exercises did you do while pregnant that were comfortable and relatively easy?

I used to walk quite a bit. I'd pop down the shops or when I was on my course, I would do a five minute walk to one bus stop, another five minute walk to the next bus stop, and then a ten minute walk from the bus stop to the course center. Then I'd do all that in reverse.
Other than that I'm not really sure what exercises are safe to do.

My neighborhood isn't the best around, and the last time I took a walk about two weeks ago, some drunken a*****e nearly ran me down.

I found swimming to be an excelent excercise while I was pregnant, but it wasn't February either...

The hospital I delivered Keiara at, and had gone to for my Lamaze classes {BTW... it's IMPOSSIBLE to remember breathing patterns while in labor....} offered a pregnant yoga class. Browse arround your area and see if there's something similar being offered.

Can I do push-ups before my belly gets too cumbersome? Or is that a no-no?

I used to play DDR for excercise before I got pregnant. Do you think it'd be okay to do while pregnant?

I wouldn't risk it...

I've been doing squats, for lack of anything better, and though it's killing my legs, I feel better for it.

I used to play DDR all the time and thinking about it I would rather not do it unless you were on the easiest mode. Yoga is very good and so is walking. I know it sounds kind of cheesy but there are alot of excerise dvds for pregnant women so I would suggest looking into them before its too late in the pregnancy.

Once you reach the third trimester squats just aren't happening. Trust me. So you might ought to think of something else.

I know I don't have long to go with the squats--I definitely fell on my a** the other day because it got to be too much. sweatdrop

Yes third trimester squats are usually a no no because they can cause pre-term labor.

Swimming and walking are the best excersizes during pregnancy. I also have a pregnancy book that tells me about other things i can do while pregnant. Here are the excersizes names:

The pelvic floor
Pelvic tilt
tailor sitting
squatting (it says you should do holding onto a chair and with your heels on a rolled up blanket if you find it difficult to keep your feet flat)

Anyway, look up those on the internet to find out how to do them. They are for making labor a bit easier.

I played DDR until my 6th month of pregnancy. It was hard for me to quit DDR because I used to compete and such. I swam regularly as well. Also my doctor told me to do Kegels but those arent for health. More for bladder issues lol.
