Awareness...

The frei floated wobbly in the center of the lab where he had been left in a hurry. The black haired man and the other red floating thing had scrambled after they had recieved something from a weird shaped thing and left through the doorway. Experimenting with the muscles on his face, the newborn floated like a sinking ship on tumulent waves and rested against the floor. As he rested patiently, he began experimenting with himself in a half-awake dazed state. Moving arms...Flexing fingers...Raising brows...Licking lips...

They had said, "They'll be right back, they had to go, it was an emergency."

So the newborn waited, feeling like he was stuffed to the brim with drugs. Everytime he blinked it felt as if there was a dry groggy film over his ruby red eyes and he had to blink several times to rid himself of it.

They would be back soon right?

Glancing about at the things in the lab, the young frei bit his lip slightly in unsureness.

The clock in the lab had long struck midnight a while ago. Kyou paced urgently across the lab reception and the sliding doors. How many hours had he gone? Four? Five maybe? This was such an eventful night indeed, right after a new Raevan emerged from the tanks and he got an emergency phone call from Aphismet about Rivener. He had no choice but to leave the newborn Raevan alone on his own for a short while. All these while newly emerged Raevans had been rather obedient, except for Lazarus. So he really hoped nothing bad happened to either the lab or the Raevan in this period of time.

Lazarus floated weakly behind Kyou, he was tugging onto Kyou's shirt the first half of the journey on the way home. But now that the dizziness had resided, he could float more steadily on his own now. He just felt really exhausted. A warm burning fire sounded so good for Lazarus currently.

Both of them entered the lab almost simultenously. The lab lights were still on, but there wasn't any sight of the newborn Raevan around. At least not in the opening in the middle anyway. Where could he be? Kyou wondered as he looked around.

There was gentle awkward movement underneath one of the empty lab desks to Kyou's right. Soon, the young Raevan in question poked his head up above one of the desks he had floated under near one of the doorways as far as possible away from the machinery at the other end of the room. His mouth was drooping in a fearful frown and his brows were knitted together, indicating distress.

After the first three hours of hovering just a couple inches over the ground, the frei had heard some of the machines in the back give off sort whirrs or clicks of movement. Unsure, he had turned around to observe the machines. They stood still as if they were staring back at him and he had felt a strange feeling well up in his entire body. He decided he didn't like it. Or them, for that matter. Then, when the clock in the lab had struck midnight, the frei jumped in surprise and glanced about wildly, trying to figure out where it was coming from. To his dismay, he didn't see anyone. He had turned a frightened eye upon the machiens and then he had awkwarldy pulled himself over to the area underneath the table. There he stayed, as far away from the soft humming slabs of metal and plastic as possible.

Now glancing up, the frei looked with knitted brow upon the entrence of Dr. Kyou and Lazarus.

"What are you doing there?" Kyou asked, frowning his brows a little into an expression of concern. It was normal in these conditions to ask that question, regardless of the fact that the newborn Raevan probably doesn't understand what he was saying. Though there were some Raevans that were smart enough to comprehend human language shortly after arriving in this world. Offering a hand out to the young Frei, Kyou smiled kindly at him and urge him to come out from underneath the table.

Lazarus floated curiously over to opposite side of Kyou to look at what was happening. Probably due to the fact that he was exhausted from the events that happened in the evening, his eyesight blurred slightly as he tried to focus on the Frei. He closed his eyes for a while and opened them again to refocus, and found a rather amusing expression on the young Frei's face. His brows were knitted and they almost looked as if they could join together any moment, and his mouth was drooping in this odd 'o' shape. Like his jaw got unhinged. Lazarus couldn't help but chuckled a little at the sight, but he half hid his laugh behind his hand so that he won't scare the other Raevan so much.

Tilting his head at the concerned question, the young frei only shrunk from the offered hand. His red eyes were carefully watching Kyou as if he wasn't sure that the man was going to panic and rush out the room again. Guessing that the hand held out to him meant something, the raevan reached out with a tenative hand for Dr. Kyou. He wasn't sure what he was doing was right or wrong until the doctor gave him a smile.

Well, that looked pleasant. In fact, it looked...It looked like something the new raevan wanted. It was a lot kinder than the cold beepings of the machines. Anything was better than them.

Slowly pulling himself out from underneath the table, his ribbons dragging upon the ground, the young frei floated back up to a decent height, just below Kyou's eyeline. Taking the doctor's hand with both hands, the raean glanced over at Laz and knitted his brows at him. It looked like he was trying to express his feelings for being left alone with the strange metallic monsters. To emphasis his feelings of fear toward the machines, the newborn kept looking over his shoulder at the machines and kept floating slowly away from them and towards Kyou and Laz. He felt comfort from them, felt that they were something not to be scared of.

Looking back at Kyou, the young frei gazed into the doctor's eyes like a lost animal and mumbled, "Fear."

"Fear?" Kyou's eyes grew slightly wider at that statement. What was this newborn Frei talking about? Only when he noticed that the Frei was darting glances towards the Raevan tanks and machineries behind him, that he knew what the Raevan was scared about. It's a little shocking for Kyou, never had he seen a Raevan, or person even, afraid of machineries and technology. He had only seen people flocking all over them, never had he seen anyone running away from them. Maybe it was just something temporary? Maybe the young Raevan would grow out of it? Only time will tell though, and he won't be able to know in a short time period. The issue at hand would be to move this Raevan to another room, one with less machines. Maybe the playroom? There's only a table, some beanies, a book shelf and a cabinet of various items in that room. The only machinery in that room was a radio sitting on the cabinet. And of course Kaze was in that room too.

Clasping a second hand over the Frei's slightly trembling ones, he gave a reassurance smile to him. "Don't worry, Laz here will take you to somewhere else." He said as he nodded towards the impolite red Raevan. Yes he did noticed Laz laughing at the younger one, and it was really rude of Laz to do that. He stared at Laz with a stern glare, as if challenging him if he'll disobey his orders.

"What? Me?" Laz cried, slightly annoyed. "Why can't you bring him instead? Why do you need me?" he complained.

"Because you're the only one here with the most free time!" Kyou snapped back, eyeing him angrily. "It's past midnight and I'm really tired. It's not like you need to work early in the morning anyway. Now bring him to the playroom!" He tried his best to not raise his voice too much, in case he scared the younger Frei. Turning back to the younger Frei, "Now you just follow Lazarus here..." he paused as he eyed Lazarus, "...to a room without, these things." a second pause, he nodded at the machineries behind him this time. "Alright?" he asked as he cocked his head sideways a little. He tried his best to keep his wordings as simple as possible, adding simple gestures to show what he meant.

Glancing back at the machinery as Kyou spoke to him, the younger frei mused his lips in his own experimental way. It looked like he was scared that the machines might spring to life behind him and attack if he kept his attention fully upon the doctor. When Kyou placed a reassuring hand upon his own, the frei jumped slightly and then stared down at the hand as if he were trying to comprehend it. He quickly understood what the action meant, though. Looking back up at the doctor to watch as he spoke again towards the other red thing, the newborn studied the way his lips moved in hopes that he would be able to string sentences like that simply by watching. Then the doctor's voice grew thick with sternness and irritation.

Frightened by the sudden change of tone, the young frei tugged slightly at Kyou's hands as if he wanted to get away and back underneath the table. He sunk slightly in the air and scrunched his shoulders up by his ears. Then the doctor turned back to him and began explaining things. Staring at him and watching his lips move again, the newborn registered what he was saying and slowly nodded his head after everything was explained. A room without he monsters? That was better.

"Mmhmm," the newborn muttered, fluttering his wings softly and then looking over at Laz hopefully.

"Alright, he's all your's." Kyou said to Lazarus as he pulled his hands out of the newborn's hands, but instead placed them behind the Frei's back, giving him a light push towards Lazarus, urging him to follow Laz from now on. He stood up straight and yawned loudly as he stretched. "I'm going to bed now, good night!" And he turned around and walked towards the single door on the other side of the room, pass the Raevan tanks and machineries. Glancing back on his way, he stared worriedly at the young Frei. Hope he gets over the technology fear soon.

Lazarus felt even more weary now that Kyou had bestowed the new born upon him. If he was going to look after the other Frei, he sure needed more energy to last the night. He stared at the younger Frei and floated towards him, wondering if he understood words well like some other newborns. "Come with me, we're going to make a detour to the kitchen before we go to the playroom." Unlike Kyou, Laz wasn't as careful and concern as he was. If Laz was going to take care of the green one for one night, the least it could do was let Laz have his fill. "Come with me," Laz motioned towards the door that lead out of the lab.

Foating awkwardly after the other raevan, the newborn reached forward and latched onto Laz's hand. He felt a bit more at ease now that he was with someone that looked like him, though the frei looked a bit worried that the doctor had gone. Glancing over his shoulder as the doctor disappeared into his room, the raevan mused his mouth. He was beginning to like making faces.

The thought of going to a place where there weren't any monsters was reassuring. He didn't know what a kitchen was, though.

Wibbling after Laz as they passed from the lab and into the next room, the newborn released a sigh of relief, "Where?" he asked.
PostPosted: Sat Feb 10, 2007 6:21 pm

"Just across there." Lazarus replied, pointing at the other door at the end of the corridor near the exit to the reception area as they exited the lab. The thought of the warm stove fire sent a warm shudder down Laz's neck. "Come on let's go!" Lazarus spoke excitedly as he grabbed the other Frei's wrist, dragging him along as he floated at running speed towards the cafe double doors.

It was late at night, and naturally the cafe is pretty abandoned and quiet right now. As they floated into the cafe, their glowing runes shone an eerie light across the dark room, illuminating a bunch of tables and chairs, looked as if they had not been touched in a while due to the fact no one really comes here very often other than Ray and the shop staff. "The kitchen is on the other side of the room." Lazarus spoke, breaking the eerie silence. It was hard to see in the penetrating darkness, but you could vaguely see that there's a small kitchen located at the furthest corner of the room. Pulling the younger Frei along again, he floated across the room.

Amazed at the glow of their runes, it took the young frei a moment to actually comprehend the darkness. Frowning, he rubbed with his free hand at his eye, found that the darkness didn't go away and clutched more tightly at Lazarus's hand. He made a little sound of distress, not understanding the blackness around them.

Then he began to focus his red eyes at the area at the other side of the room, and he felt his body tense and his skin tingle with that same fear he felt in the lab. He pulled a bit at Laz's grip and tried to make another sound to tell him that he was nervous and didn't want to go any farther. He could see the little blinking lights and the metallic sheen of a couple appliances.

Lazarus paused in his tracks as he felt the little pull from the younger Frei's arm. He turned around to see what's wrong and found himself staring at his terrified expression again. He peeled his eyes off him and looked at the stove, it's not very far from him now. Temptation building up, Lazarus tugged at the younger Frei's wrist impatiently. "Come on, we're just not very far from the kitchen now!" he said annoyingly, frowning his brows at the younger Frei. Laz just needed to head over to the stove, turn it on and he'll be able to re-energize. Simple as that.

Muttering unintelligible things, the frei sucked on his lip and slowly moved forward as he was pulled forward by the other raevan. It looked as if he were fighting an internal battle, attempting to convince himself that it was alright as long as Lazarus was there. Floating closer and wobbling dangerously, the newborn sidled himself behind Laz so that he nudged slightly into the other's wings. Staring over Lazzy's shoulder, he glared at the metal things. When they didn't do anything, he got more calm with each passing moment.

STOVE! FIRE!! Was the only thoughts in Lazarus mind now. This was the first time Lazarus had such a craving for 'food'. Maybe it was the blood that he donated to Rivener after all, it felt like he lost more than half of his energy in that process. His wings twitched a little as the younger Frei moved close, but he didn't paid much attention to it.

Stopping right in front of the stove, Lazarus let go of the other Frei's arm and went to switch on the stove instead. With a click, the stove came to life, the fire sparked a little as it glowed in a blue color tinged slightly with orange on the edges. Lazarus let out a low moan of satisfaction as he ran his hand into the fire, it seemed to dimmed a little as Laz's hands came in contact with it. Almost immediately he felt the energy flowing back into him. The warm heat started from his hand and slowly flowed to the rest of his body. Instinctively he closed his eyes, enjoying the sensation as he felt the fire burning inside himself again. He moaned again as he was being filled. Slowly he opened his eyes, they glowed red for a short moment as he's fully charged again. A satisfied grin plastered on his face, finally being able to relief the thirst and craving he had for fire earlier. The fire on the stove seemed to had became much smaller as he absorbed the energy. But when Laz removed his hand from the fire it grew back to it's original form.

"I'm done." Lazarus said satisfyingly, flexing his hand open and close, a small fire flickered on his palm as he played with it in front of the younger Frei.

Frozen in place as the other raevan turned a switch and awoke the machine, the newborn watched in horrified fascination as the machine flickered to life and belched out a flame. How had it done that?! Was it angry?! Did it wake up?! When Laz finally turned around, he only caught a glimpse of the newborn bolting away from the kitchen with a dry airy squeal.

Then something amazing happened.

Instead of pressing himself into a corner, or opening the door to escape the room, the newborn frei simply floated through the wall and disappeared.
