Lets see...a new month - another language 3nodding and this month we'll have Romanian.
I'll start posting the lessons tomorrow, after I manage to get my act together (school messed up my plans, but this short - as in just 7 days - hollyday will surely help).
Bun venit la lecţia de română!

Limba lunii: română It's time to start the lessons. Sorry if it took me too long, but this is new for me and I still don't know how to go about it. I'll just borrow from the others and see what comes out of it. After every lesson, there will be a vocabulary section so there won't be problems...

With the pronunciation guide, maybe you could give us IPA pronunciation equivalents? ;D
Wikipedia actually has a very good section on the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet). 3nodding

So, what's the difference in pronounciation between A and the A with a loop at the top which I can't find in my accents guide?

The main reason why I didn't post the IPA pronunciation equivalent is because I have no ideea how to type it sweatdrop (Me and computers don't get along very well) but I've found the Wikipedia page and I'll post the link. Romanian alphabetAs for Ă, it's pronounced more like a in above... edit: I don't think it would be a bad idea if I recorded the sounds and uploaded it, right? I just need someone to explain how.

For me, when I'm typing the IPA I just go to the character's page on Wikipedia and actually copy and paste the letters. It takes a while, but it works. ;)

Also, I'm curious about syllable stress?
I mean, Romanian is a Romance language heavily influenced by Slavic languages. There's simply got to be syllable stress!

As I've seen, syllable stress usually falls on the second-to-last syllable in a word, much like in normal Romance languages such as Spanish and Italian.
EX: peşte (fish) pisică (cat) albină (bee)
There are some exceptions in which syllable stress is at the first or last syllable:
elefant (elephant) fluture (butterfly)
I'm pretty sure that one rule is that the letter ă is never stressed, so găndac (cockroach) places stress on the second syllable.
But that's about all I know about Romanian other than pronunciation and some vocab. Maybe Linda Quest can explain it better.

Only you were talking about î and â not ă. It's gândac. The reason â is never stressed is because it's the shortest vowel in the alphabet. O-Zone...I miss those guys. Whatever happened to Dan? But I like Vama Veche more (too bat they split up too). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jgifw2R6jHEhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWHHR2E9qaU

Hehe... whenever that song plays smiling rainbows with cute little puffy clouds at the ends sing harmoniously XD. I've had this song stuck in my head since I saw a Norwegian ( not too sure. I just know it was somewhere in Scandinavia) completely butcher the song.
