The trees that grew high and dense in the land of Beastia quivered, dancing in the hot, humid wind. Vines slithered and slinked away like snakes, fleeing in fear from the unwelcomed demon slinking over the moss covered ground. The whole forest seemed to shift in order to clear a path- a tunnel for this.. deadly foe.

The form of a large fox emerged from the cleared path. Not just a fox, but a demon. It's wicked black claws dug into the ground, creating large and deep paw prints. It's muzzle was long and filled with curved, decayed yellow teeth. It's fur seemed to be coated with a layer of mud and dieing moss. The many tails it had were monsterous! They whipped and dragged over the ground, leaving a large trail of decay and mold.

Lydia shivered and sunk deeper into the roots of the fig tree. They reached out to embrace her and she felt her mouth go dry. Still, being engulfed and strangled by the tree was preferable to meeting whatever it was that was coming. She could sense it. The forest had grown still, the wind had a strange feel to it, and that terror in her heart was beating painfully at her ribs.

Pan grew still and crouched, his limbs creaking, and he absently dug the tip of the dagger into the dirt, turning up black soil beneath. His eyes were narrowed and he watched the shadows of the trees, a soft and expectant look on his face.

“One of the forest’s own,” he said idly, and waited for the approaching creature to show itself.

The fox watched the human climb into the tree silently, it's body going still as a dead tree, hidden in the shadows. Though.. the aweful smell gave it away, along with the wind blown screaming of the dieing trees and demons that were unfortuniate enough to be rooted to the ground, unable to flee- soft, but audioble to those that understood their language.

It's gold eyes watched the girl hungrily, and if it's pet were not there, he would have bound upon her with a hunger that was never sustained. Unfortunate... So unfortunate...

The arrogance of this demon was obvious. All others would have bound to their master and begged for his affection and approval.

"Master..." The word was almost spat, a bit of disease ridden saliva falling as he spoke, a raspy sound. He stepped out of the shadows, revealing it's dead twisted body. He bowed, but not as lowly as one might expect.. He curled his tail around him, splatering mold onto it's thick coat. "The day.. is nice.. Yesss?"

Kiddo the fox-phoenix
“Very nice,” Pan agreed. He wasn’t bothering to look directly at the demon, his eyes instead trailing over the remnants of decay the fox had left in its wake. There was a bored glint in his eyes, as if this meeting wasn’t really worth his time and that the fox-demon before him meant nothing.

“What brings you here?” he finally asked, standing and turning his back to walk to the fig tree where Lydia huddled in fear. He put one hand close to her and she flinched and he did not touch her. “Is hunting so poor for you? I’m afraid this one’s terror is mine and mine alone though…”

He smiled and glanced back at the demon, sniffing at the air softly. The scent of decay did not seem to bother him and he tested the air for the more subtle currents of aggression and irritation to see if his jab hit home.

His muzzle slowly turned to peer at the girl again, drool dripping from his decaying theeth. He started to pant, and for a moment it seemed like he would pounce, regaurdless that the guardian was standing before him. His legs quivered from the tension pent up there.

"Ooooh..." His voice shook, then a shaky laugh escaped him. "I'm afraid that my... reputation makes it a bit harder to find prey..." He raised his head, daring to look him in the eyes. "Humans.. do not flock to me, after all Unlike you.... But.. you are so very pretty, master..."

Pan smiled so that his teeth were bared. They were sharp, like those of a wolf. His hand carefully settled in Lydia’s hair and she made small sound, the whine of an animal gone half-feral and sat still, trembling. He seemed to ignore the… compliment.

“You are very gracious,” Pan said mildly, “And I must sympathize with your predicament.”

His hand tightened around Lydia’s shirt and with a quick movement pulled her off the branches of the tree and held her in the air, between him and the mold-demon. She screamed before subsiding into quick, sharp gasps of breath.

“Perhaps I could let you feed off her terror, if only briefly for a moment. Your very presence helps inspire it, after all.”

“No, no,” Lydia screamed, “Let me go, I want to wake up! Let me go!”

Pan chuckled and let go. She landed at his feet, sobbing, and dragged herself a few paces to get away from the fox.

“Then again, I would think that you could find better than this, even with your reputation. Her fear makes her a cripple and I would think that there are far superior creatures out there for a subject of my domain.”

There was an edge to his voice. The civil mask was slipping and revealing some of the irritation that lay beneath.

honey.roasted.ferrets
His tails uncurled from his body, waging widely behind him when the girl was held out to him.. His jaw snapped, as if chewing... tasting her flesh, it dying quickly in his infected mouth. But no! The fiend! At the last moment, before he had pounced... She dropped. His lip curled, and he growled lowly at the faun. A wave of death hissed from his jaws, causing the follage around him to whither even more.

"Hmm....Hmhmhm... You... you.. clever, precious demon..." He grunted, recurling the tailed around him, a tattered ball of mud and death. "The ones that cry are always so... tender.. Though... most do cry... Mmm..." He licked his lips, wiping away some of the dripping drool. "Your... captive.. is weak, you mean...? Surely... someone as... powerful as you could find someone better.. A man, perhaps.. More meat. I could take her off your hands.." HE took a step closer to the girl.

Kiddo the fox-phoenix
Pan curled his lip in distaste as the foliage wilted from the demon’s breath. His eyes flickered lazily between Lydia and the fox, considering.

“The broken ones amuse me,” he said finally, “You are right, I could find another, someone stronger with more substance to them. But it takes careful planning and a good deal of effort to destroy a spirit so utterly and I would hate for all my work to go to waste, not now. My tastes… are more refined than yours. Still.”

He uncurled his hand and let his dagger fall to the ground. It landed near Lydia’s hands and she stared at it with wide eyes.

“I grant you five seconds in which I will not interfere. At the end of them I will allow her to wake from our realm and she will remain mine.”

The guardian smiled and bowed to the fox, a hungry glint in his eyes, and he stepped back two paces, spreading his arms in invitation, leaving Lydia exposed in the clearing. She wrapped her hand around the dagger just as Pan said, softly, “One.”

As soon as the Guardian had stepped back, just as the small human gripped the knife, he lounged. He moved with suprising speed for such a weighed down creature, and he had pinned the girl to the ground in merely a couple of blinks. Drool dripped onto the poor girl's skin, The moisture instantly seeping into the skin and making it turn yellow with rot. He bit down into her shoulder, blood and puss flowing into his mouth as his infested teeth sunk into her.

For a few seconds Lydia didn’t feel the pain, the sheer shock sending adrenaline coursing through her veins and numbing her to everything but the fight or flight reaction. She scrabbled for a purchase, found none, and instead closed her hands on the hilt of the dagger. With a half-grunt, half-gasp as the pain finally registered in her brain – distantly – she made a wild stab with the dagger that only grazed the side of the beast pinning her down, lacking enough force to do any real damage.

“Pan!” she screamed, twisting and putting her forearm against the demon’s neck and pushing, trying to force his jaws out of her shoulder.

The guardian didn’t move. Just watched with his glass-like eyes and softly intoned: “Two.”

A mere grunt escaped him as the blade dug into his skin a bit, but it mostly just sliced through mud. The defiance amused him, and her fear excited him. He sunk his teeth deeper and started to pull, tearing the flesh away hungrily. Let's not get into too much details here, but let's just say there was alot of blood and.. grossness. He leaned back alittle and laughed, his rancid breath rolling over her, taking her breath away for a moment.

"Weak!! Your human is so weak! Oh..." He shuddered in pleasure. "It's so good, Master, thank you!"

“Four seconds,” Pan said disdainfully, “A rather pathetic show. I had hoped there would be more fight in her. Five seconds. Enough.”

He walked closer to the mess of a human and the demon. She quivered for a moment, lost in her own private world of fear and agony. There were… voices. It was difficult to breathe. She wavered in and out, wondering if she was going to wake up now, sweating and panting in her own bed, or if she’d just fade out and be gone. And in the deepest part of her subconscious her mind wondered which would actually be preferable.

“Humans are interesting things,” he said, “They’ve forgotten their connection with the earth and that little part of their soul that whispers to the forest and all the brutality contained within is buried so deeply it might as well be dead. Or…”

Lydia’s hand was still around Pan’s dagger. The knuckles turned white and the battered form drew in breath, held it.

“Perhaps not.”

And Lydia convulsed with a wild cry, bringing the knife inward with no regard as to where, stabbing it into the first thing it met, twisting her wrist, and then ripping down like she had seen Pan do before to Nightmares unfortunate enough to invoke his anger. Then her grasp relaxed, the dagger slid from her hand, and her head rolled to the side and she was still.

((as weak as she is there wouldn’t be enough strength to do damage. I’ve thrown plenty of shots when swordfighting when I was exhausted and desperate and even if they hit they weren’t strong enough to do anything. It’s very frustrating))

The fox roared as the blade dug into his muzzle a bit, a small amount of his own blood dripping into his mouth and mixing with the blood and puss of his victim. He lounged upon her again in anger, ripping at her other arm until she had passed out.. A moment later the girl had vanished, her merciful unconciousness letting her slip back to her mortal plane. Decay snapped at the empty air, as if making sure there was no way he'd miss her.. He jumped back and growled.

"Damn girl!" His eyes flickered to his master. "Bring her back! I'll rip her to shreds!"
PostPosted: Sun Feb 04, 2007 5:58 pm

“She’s awake now,” Pan replied mildly, “Probably panting among her tangled covers trying to reassure herself that it was all just a dream. Nothing more then that.”

He walked over and stooped, picking up the dagger and holding it before him, sniffing slightly at the blood that still clung to the blade. With a sharp movement of his wrist he flicked the drops off and onto the ground before replacing the dagger back into his pouch.

“You had her for five seconds. Now you must hunt your own again…”

Pan smiled and walked backwards to the tree, folding down among the roots at a place where the piled on top of each other, forming what could appear to be a throne of dead, dry wood. His skin blended with the tree around him so that all that could be seen clearly were his horns and the glass-blue eyes.

-------------

Lydia woke with the start of a scream, quickly muffled. She drew the covers up around her, crying into them, and after a few moments snapped her hand to shut off the alarm when it started beeping by her bedside.

“Just a dream,” she whispered, “Just a dream.”

But there was that pounding in her heart, sending blood up through her ears so that she could hear it echo in her mind, that couldn’t be ignored. The feel of the dagger in her hand. The sudden elation of acting – of doing something to hurt him back. She shuddered and stumbled out of bed and towards the bathroom. A shower would wash away the last strands of nightmare and she could just pretend it had never happened.

Not until the next night. She took a deep breath to steady herself, looking in the mirror at the dark circles under her eyes and the hollow cheeks. Damn him.

The monster growled at Pan, low and dangerously... But.. he wasnt a complete idiot. He might tease and torment his master, but a full attack would only cause more injury to him. Maybe one day soon... His wounds had already filled up, mold and puss filling the gaps. He turned, reluctantly and made his way out of the clearing, the trees once again moving for him, screaming in pain and sorrow as parts of them withered away.

"Good day... Master..." And he was gone into the shadows, only his stench remaining.

Somewhere along the dense forest, strained and trying something for the first time, a new face to the forest tried its hand... er paw, at pulling a certain creature from sleep and to its side. It had a waited a very long time for this to happen, but it seemed that sleep was a rare thing for this... this, delightfully tormented young woman. A scowling grin came spreading across his muzzle, soon she would be with him, and Bauh'eim put more into his calling until he was alone no more. Blinking crystline blue eyes his gaze shifted towards a lump on the ground near his paws and that scowling grin never left his short muzzles. "Look whose here..." a deep chuckle emitted from his throat as he saw her begin to stir against the ground. Upon seeing her move a certain predator instinct brought itself to his being, and cystaline eyes widened to be fully rimmed in white. Bauh'eim, a canine like creature with foul intentions written upon a wicked muzzle, slowly half-circled to the other side of Ropin, soft pad falls merely drown out by the deep-throated snarle that grew in volume; until the muzzle opened and dripping teeth snapped violently in front of her face.

Having not a clue just exactly where she had ended up, the blue-haired woman dared to stir and rouse herself from a drowzy state. Unlike in the real world, her mind was not clouded by the drugs the doctors had her on, nor the impending instincts that they drew out of her. Not that she wondered about it, or even knew such a thing existed, for as she awoke she could have sworn she heard something. Growling? Stiffened at the thought, but pulling her face out of the dirt long enough to get a look upwards... her only reaction to snapping jaws was jerk backwards and scramble desperately to back away. While doing so, the blue tinted sunglasses from the brim of her nose fell to the ground below, and there before her was a creature. A-A dog? she thought, quickly losing color to her face, not to mention motor function in her legs and arms, for while they grew heavy with fright, her mind screamed at her to run.

Bauh'eim watched her reactions with a morbid excitement, raising his lips to expose thick fangs, and wrinkle his nose in a terrible anger. Approaching her this time he allowed his matted fur to bristle and raise at the neck, and as if his appearance wasn't enough to frighten her stiff he chuckled again, crystaline eyes wild with glee. "This... my dear little worthless-one, is going to be amusing", he cooed to her, watching the human shiver at his words. Fun indeed.

Pan roused himself from his knotted throne, his glass-blue eyes opening after hours of quiet contemplation. There was the scent of a newcomer in the air, an unfamiliar scent, but not an unpleasant one like an intruder. They came, every now and then, the Nightmares that had no home, or even worse – those that did and dared leave their land to trespass into his. But this one… was not an intruder.

Pan rose from the fig tree, limbs creaking, and started off into the forest, his hooves leaving heavy footsteps in the soft earth. His passage was audible as he moved through the underbrush and past low branches. He was not hunting this time, he was merely curious as to who and what this newcomer was, and what they brought with them.

And the newcomer needed to know whose forest this was. Pan smiled softly to himself.

Ropin tried desperatly not to look at the approaching creature. If she didn't look at him then maybe she wouldn't intice him to do anything, but even so her arm started to shake in fear, and her pale skin vibrated with the movement as it went up her back and through her body. She didn't want to believe what was happening, hadn't she just been asleep? Or was she even sleeping before? Where was she? There were so many questions she dared not ask, especially to a talking dog that seemed to have it in for her. Though when pressure was applied to her leg she opened her eyes to see what had happened, and wished she hadn't. The dog was standing with a paw on her leg, and his bared teeth just inches from her face. Ropin shuddered, trying to pull her face away from his in a slow movement; completely quaking now.

Bauh'eim wasn't practiced in his style of tormenting just yet, but being a quick learner and a chaotic mind, the plight was no longer his own. For the dog terror was allowing his body to do as it pleased, to obey his minds desires and greed. His bared teeth turned into a sort of wicked grin when she tried to pull away, and his response was to leap at her shoulders, placing a paw on each one and keeping her down on the ground. "Still, worthless one. Still so I can enjoy this", he growled to the point that words almost couldn't be understood. White rimmed crystaline eyes stared into hers for a moment before he got up, teeth still bared as he began to circle her. Though, when the woman made a movement of any kind, Bauh'eim snapped viciously at her being, once or twice making contact with her skin. She'd learn that he was the boss. And she'd learn not to disobey him. His deep chuckle came from the back of his throat, and the terror's matted fur raised on end once again. Something felt different though, and his acute nose told him of some odd change to the scents around him. That made him uneasy and his ears went back, this was his kill! HIS KILL HIS KILL HIS KILL! Angrily he flung himself upon the poor woman once more, a single paw pressed against her lower neck and bared teeth growling into her. "My kill", he whispered to her, his mind obsessed with the thought.

"I have no need to take your kill from you," a voice from somewhere to Bauh'eim's right said. It was a calm voice, serene and elegant, and carried a trace of boredom. "I was merely curious who it was that has entered my forest. You are not familiar."

The speaker shifted and seemed to just detach himself from the surrounding trees, the movement giving him distinction and bringing out the lines of his limbs in contrast to the tree bark around him that mirrored his own color and texture. He opened his eyes and they shone like polished glass in the constant twilight of the forest. There was a dagger strung about his waist, sheathed, and he kept his hand pressed together in front of him and away from this weapon.

"And with a human, no less," Pan commented, his gaze briefly and disdainfully taking in the girl before turning back to the dog, "Very good. Your name, Terror?"
PostPosted: Wed Mar 21, 2007 2:53 pm

Flicking a single floppy ear towards the first announcement of a presence, Bauh'eim had a bit of a hard time tearing his mind away from its constant obsession long enough to understand what was being said. Snapping his attention away from the woman's paled face he lowered his lips just slightly as he gazed at the 'living tree' so the thing was dubbed. Larger then Bauh'eim. Different color then Bauh'eim. Surely didn't stand on four legs like Bauh'eim. Still in a primal state the dog terror crouched down on his haunches before sitting squarely on Ropin's quaking stomach, trying to eye up and weigh the being before him.

Ropin on the other hand, at the sight of yet another monster, had taken to closing her eyes very tightly. Though it did take the dog's attention off of her for just a moment, and her paniced mind begged for action. To run, to escape, something to get away. Feeling pressure on her stomach, Ropin jerked slightly in surprise.

Despite how slight the jerk was, Bauh'eim snapped his jaws mere inches from her face, his warm breath seeping over her paled skin. When her movement stopped and he felt her tense underneath him, the terror returned his attention to the 'living tree'. Though he was quite curious about this... title. His forest? Taking a sweeping glance around, his white-rimmed crystaline eyes sought to trace every little twig and tree. This was the 'living tree's'? "Bauh'eim", he answered at length, taking careful consideration into this stranger who apparently owned more then he did.

"Bauh'eim..." Pan repeated slowly, considering the name, "Interesting. And you do not know who I am yet."

He stepped out into the clearing and crouched, lazily glancing about as if it wasn't necessary to give the dog any more attention than he had to.

"I am Pan, Guardian of this forest: Bestia. You belong here and so you obey me." His eyes glittered dangerously. "I do not permit intruders, first and foremost. But I think... that you wouldn't disagree with hunting those that dare trespass, would you? For this is your home as well."

Pan tilted his head, letting his scraggly hair spill over his shoulders.

"There is one other thing," he said contemplatively, "A girl. Human, small, named Lydia. Do not touch her for she belongs to me. Otherwise I have no concern as to what you do within Bestia, so long as you do not disturb the equilibrium. It is the humans that have forgotten the laws of primal nature."
