In the English Literacy class I teach, I had the students write an essay on their favourite hobbies. Well, one of my students handed in a whole paper full of 1337 speak. It went somewhat like this: The class clown MY F4V0R173 H0BBY 15 FR34K1N9 73H 734CH3R 0U7. 1 10V3 1337 4ND 17'5 50 1337! D00D! 50 73H M1N1N9 3FF0R75 W3N7 D0WN W17H 73H 734CH3R! 50 734CH3R, P1Z D0N'7 F1R3 M3H!!!!1111!!!!111! It was written in big letters. Straight from my breifcase, here is the essay. I have uploaded it, unfortunately. I don't understand the "mining efforts" thing, what is mining efforts anyway? surprised

I don't know whether I should give this guy an award or a smack with the almighty Grammar Hammer!
I've always wanted to write a school paper in leet, but never had the grades to afford an F.

So the mining efforts went down with the teacher! So teacher, please don't fire me! That took me about 2.5 minutes to write, counting the time it took to decipher the "mining" part.

Oh my... I like 1337, as it is good for passing notes and such in class, especially if only a select group of people even know what it is, but goodness! To write an English essay in 1337 is just wrong. It may be hilarious, but it still makes one wish to bash grammar into the writer's skull...
Also, if someone figures out the "mining efforts" do let me know. That's the only thing that does not make sense...

yea, 1337 is good for passing notes, although no one else I know knows it. And I just have to say that I am shocked, apalled (if that's how you spell it) and more. I would kill him.

What kind of kid writes in l337? Epescailly(sp?) on an essay!!! I mean......NO ONE in my class does that. If they did then they would get in so much trouble with our teacher.
