His eyes looked up into the stars. Kaze sat cross-legged near the edge of the cliff with his katana resting on his shoulder. He remained bareback with a few bandage wraps wrapping around his ribs. The stars were countless in number and seemed to be one of theo nly things that could put a smile on the man’s face. The glasses of his were pushed up a bit when Kaze let his head fall down. He was tired from the previous battle and his wounds. It was not long until he felt the warmth of someone’s hand behind him. “What is it?” He asked softly. Kaze soon saw a robe being placed over his body to keep him warm. He turned to see the other figure in the night.

“You look tired,” a woman’s voice said from behind. Her warm breath was felt against Kaze’s neck. It made the man smile as he leaned back onto the woman. Her arms soon hugged the warrior from behind. Her face came up besides his to give a kiss on the cheek. “You really should rest. Come now, lie down.” The girl put some weight on Kaze’s shoulders to get the man on the ground. Her face now looked down on the man. Her smile was heaven sent. The pale blue eyes of this goddess soon moved closer to his face.

“Stay with me. Please.” The woman nodded and lay next to Kaze. An arm of the lady soon rested over Kaze’s chest. He only smiled and kissed her hand. His head finally rested on the desert ground and his eyes soon closed. The girl kept her eyes on the man’s face. Her own eyes soon filled with tears as she turned away. Her hand moved away from Kaze and was soon placed over her own heart. Her body rose again and now to her feet.

“I’m sorry,” the girl said finally before moving closer to the cliff. The tip of her feet did not even touch the ground anymore. One leg soon stepped off from the cliff and soon the girl plummeted down in the darkness. Nothing else was heard that night except for the wind and the rustling of leaves.

A Warrior's Tale

-Chapter One-
Five Years ago

The desert floors were covered with corpses of humans. Blood splattered about as swords and axes flew about. There were no Zigmaril, only rival tribal clans fighting over trivial matter. Men screamed as their weapon plunged into the chest of the enemy. Arrows flew from afar to pierce into various body parts of both friend and foe.

“Our second wave is falling apart!” One man screamed. His forehead was busted open probably by a club. The crimson liquids fell down and covered a wounded eye. The spike hair was wet and falling down. It looked more like a broomstick held up by a bandana. His sword rested on the ground as he waited for more reinforcements to come ahead. Kinneas, Sergeant of the Nautr forces had found himself in a dilemma. It was not long until a behemoth of a warrior stood in front of Kinneas. The barbarian’s body engulfed Kinneas’ body into a shadow. A club was raised into the air and thrown down fiercely to try and crush in the Nautr soldier’s head. Kinneas was able to roll out of the way only to feel the club connect with his ribs. His body flew a few feet and finally landed on the dried up floor. Kinneas spit out some blood and breathed hard to feel that some of bones had been broken. The barbarian screamed loud when running over toward the Sargeant to finish off the job.

“Dammit!” Kinneas managed to cry out when still on the floor. He looked up at the enemy and saw that the club blocked out the sun. Damn, I guess this is it. Kinneas thought with a slight smile on his face. It was not long until he heard a loud gurgle and felt warm liquids fall on his shoulder and chest. He opened his one good eye to see the barbarian with no arm and a gash through its throat. “Huh?” He was confused at first until seeing a figure stand next to the enemy. It looked to be a young child wearing a red robe, his arms covered by the cloths. In the child’s hand was a bloody katana that swirled and sliced off the enemy’s head.

“Sergeant Kinneas I presume? We bring the reinforcements,” the boy said calmly. The boy was shorter than all of the other warriors and wore glasses. Glasses were strange to see in this time and age. He walked away slowly as many soldiers rushed into battle behind him. The Nautr warriors soon helped Kinneas to his feet and moved him away from the battle. Kinneas saw the boy raise his sword once again only for it to gracefully cut down a countless number of enemies. His eyes soon closed due to his injuries. The warriors yelled things to him but they were all dulled out as Kinneas slipped out of consciousness. The warriors moved back to the Nautr stronghold where they were preparing yet another wave to send off into battle. Hopefully the soldiers would not have to be used.

“Set Kinneas down in the infirmary, come on quickly!” The General’s coarse and rugged voice let out while moving to the same area. The man wore a golden covered armor and draped in a red cape. “You foolish man! Look at you! You thought you could take down the Barbaric Yretal tribe with that many men…you are lucky to have survive. Kaze will take care of things for now.” He pushed away the cloth that was supposed to be the door for the infirmary. It was actually a tent with many injured and wounded soldiers inside. Moans and groans were heard coming from inside. The smell of death and decay wreaked inside. The general along with the doctors were used to it. Kinneas was finally set down in a bed with his leader sitting on the side.

“Kaze? That little boy? He saved me…” Kinneas muttered when placing a hand over his forehead. He was sweating nonstop and his mind was slipping in and out. He cringed when feeling something being stuck in his side. The doctor told Kinneas to relax but that seemed rather hard to do.

“He might be young, but his power is phenomenal. That little boy probably saved a lot more lives than just yours.” The general felt the thick white goatee of his before nodding. “Get better Kinneas. We have much to discuss.”

The bloodshed had finally ceased. The Nautr proved victorious by obtaining the Yretal stronghold. The dead soldiers of the enemy lay on the floor motionless. Many of the Nautr warriors took any supplies they could from the enemy and headed quickly back to their own home. The great building was made of scrap metal with many blockades found in front of it. Most of the material was either dug up in the desert or taken by foes. With some craftsmanship, the pieces of metal were placed together to form a decent looking stronghold. Soldiers stood firmly at all entrances with various types of weapons. Kinneas let his weight rest on the crutch given to him. He had a small smile on his face when hearing that they overpowered the Yretal tribe. His eyes soon spotted the bespectacled boy. The child’s hair was silky black and reached past his neck. Kinneas’ eyes soon locked onto the eyes of the child. The boy had no emotion as it seemed when looking at the Sergeant. “That kid…” Kinneas muttered. Another soldier soon came up closer to Kinneas wide eyed when seeing the child as well.

“That boy was the reason why we won today. He killed more men than most of the other soldiers combined.” The soldier patted Kinneas’ shoulder and started to walk off. Kinneas scratched his broomstick styled hair. He looked about before moving toward the main building. The general would know more about the soldiers, especially this one.

The general was enjoying himself be biting into a cooked razorback leg. The meat flew off from the bone and was devoured quickly by the large man. He soon saw someone enter his quarters. “Ah! Kinneas! Join me in this meal of victory. Did you see how they run?!” He laughed hard before taking another bite of the meat.

Kinneas sighed and laughed a little nervously. “Yea I think I was passed out for the whole victory thing. But sir is it wise to have such a young child on the battlefield? You know whom I speak of right? It’s the only soldier out there that looks like he’s 12 with glasses. The general grew quiet and let the hunk of meat fall back onto its plate.

“Firstly, he is 14 and he wanted to fight for Nautr. His name is Kaze and yes, he rather powerful for such a young child.” The general rested back on his chest and let his hands smash onto the table. “Our king personally selected him out of many trainees.”

“Really? Where’d the kid come from?” Kinneas asked when walking closer toward the table slowly. With broken ribs, arm and leg, it was rather hard to move fast.

“I don’t think anyone will know that except for the boy…” the general muttered with a groan.

-Chapter Two-
Origins

The night stars brightened the small path that hid between trees. Small torches held by the largest of men kept the darkness away. The carriage wheels screeched slightly as it moved along with the rest of the peoples. Among this group of refugees was a small boy at about the age of eight. His eyes continued to gaze down at the floor while fiddling with a small figurine he had gotten from his last family. When looking up, all he saw were strangers and people who were desperately searching for a new place to live. The boy’s hands soon stopped moving when hearing screams up ahead.

White streams of light were left as blades slashed through the air and into the bodies of the torch bearing men. The bandits of the Yretal had heard of the small traveling group of refugees. They thought this would be a perfect time to gain more materials along with have some fun. The Yretal men wore black scarves over their mouth and screamed. Their smiled were hidden away by the terrified women and children. It was not long until the refugees turned and started to run for their lives. A young woman instead grabbed the boy by his hand. Her eyes met his as she told him to start running. Another girl ran beside them but her pony tail was soon grabbed by one of the bandits. She cried out for help but her cry was muffled as a sword was stabbed through her heart.

The boy stumbled slightly but was quickly brought back up by the woman. In front of them was mare carnage. It seemed that the bandits had attacked from both sides. The woman looked at the child and fell on top of him. The boy became wide eyed as tears started to rush down his cheeks. “You’re too young to die like this. You must live on!” The woman said with a smile. Her smile soon faded when feeling the cold metal enter through her side. Her body pressed against the boy lying limp.
