Daray trudged through the half-melting snow, his mind set and bent on finding a way to impress Aita. He had spent the past few weeks training under Shade's vicious but watchful eye, and he felt he had been tutored enough in the lesson of killing to go out on his own and try it for himself. Shade had warned him that he still had some training to accomplish before he would be ready to track, catch and kill a prey on his own, but he figured that if she and Aita could do it, it wouldn't be too hard for him to do. Besides, Shade had taught him quite a few pointers, and he was anxious to try them out on the first creature he saw. Well... the first non-clawed, defenseless creature he saw.
He felt his hooves growing damper from the melting snow, and wished spring would hurry up. The snow had already begun melting in parts of the land, but the wind and clouds kept the air chilly and cold, keeping most of the good food options nestled in their burrows and caves. He was beginning to grow desperate to find something to catch for Aita; he knew she would be waking up soon and he wanted to bring her some fresh meat for breakfast.
He sighed, and the exhaled breath flew out in a small fog against the cold air. Where in the heck were all the animals?

Gwee looked around at her large feast that she had managed to put together. It consisted of two rabbits, a ferret and three fish that she grilled herself to perfection. Her taste buds went wild as she looked around, breathing in the warm aroma of all the food. She closed her eyes and breathed in with a smile, smelling the delicous odor. She had just about hunted every animal in these parts of the woods.
There was only one thing that could ruin this moment. Oh, well, maybe a few things, one being an invited guest. But there was only one thing currently making the moment unenjoyable. The cold air. Gwee knew a way to fix this of course, she'd just make a small campfire out of branches she'd have to find. Unfortunately, she'd have to leave her food unattended and risk it being stolen. But if anyone stole it, they'd pay the consequences.
The consequence, of course, being death.

Still sulking at the lack of wildlife around him, Daray continued his treck through the woods, feeling very irritable at his lack of success. Where in the hell were all the little critters that usually roamed the forest? It was early morning... they should all be out and about gathering their food and waking up to meet the sunrise. It was almost as if they knew he was coming.. coming to hunt them down. That, or something else had already begun the hunt and the animals were hiding.
Daray shuddered at the thought of a blood-thirsty predator already roaming around, looking for fresh meat. He doubted he'd be strong enough to fend off a lion or a bear, but he was sure he could outrun either of them should he be approached by one.
It didn't matter really, though. Lions weren't known for lurking around the woods and the bears were still hibernating, no doubt, which logically left him to be the only possible hunter in the forest.
It was then that a cold breeze drifted the heavenly aroma of death into Daray's nostrils and he sighed happily. Something was bleeding, and he felt a rumble in his stomach.
"That's a good sign," he thought to himself. If his stomach was yearning for meat, then his taste buds were adjusting to the way of the meat-eater... Aita would be very pleased, just as he was.
He followed the scent past trees and bushes, until he spotted a dragon-like beast in the close distance. Startled and afraid, he quickly found a nearby hiding spot... a rather large tree. Hiding behind it, Daray cautiously peeked his head out and watched. There, in the clearing, stood a magnificent beast... was it a Soquili? Or a Dragon? It looked similar to the dreaded Kalona breed, and that's all Daray needed to know to keep his distance from the creature. It's sharp horns and pointed tail silently threatened all who approached, and Daray respected the beast for his appearance alone.
His eyes wandered, however, and soon landed on the pile of carcasses laid out in front of the Dragon Soquili. Fish, rabbits and what looked to be a ferret sat neatly in a bloody pile, letting off a bit of steam from their skin.
"But how were they cooked?" Daray thought to himself, "Could he have stolen them from the two-leggers?" That's when he noticed the wisp of smoke rising from the dragon's nostrils. Ah... he had forgotten about the fire that came with dragons. Even more intimidating than the horns.
Daray watched as the dragon looked around, and wondered what was on the creature's mind. Had he heard Daray approaching? Was he looking for more food?
His stomach began to rumble louder from the smell of cooked meat, and Daray squeezed his eyes shut, willing it to be quiet. What he wouldn't give to snag even just a small rabbit from the pile.
((note: I know Gwee's a female, but I thought it'd be funny to make Dar think it was a male.... he's a little dense in the brain's department and later it'll be a bigger surprise to him to discover that Gwee's a girl xD))

Before heading out to grab some wood to keep her warm, Gwee grabbed one of the rabbits in her mouth and began to chew on it, just a little snack. She swallowed the baby rabbit's leg and smiled. In the corner of her eye, she saw a figure not too far away.
Gwee turned her head to see the figure better and found that it was a Soquili. Gwee rolled her eyes and groaned. An uninvited guest is certainly not what Gwee wanted to have at her feast. It was one of the least things she wanted.
She approached the stallion, taking two steps closer to him with a wicked smile across her face, the grim grin of intimidation, as she calls it. It was a skill Gwee learned when she was young, the art and mastery of intimidation. It went along with her love of torture beautifully.
"Hello there," said Gwee, tauntingly. Her voice was low, but still soft. It had a malicous and eerie ring to her voice. Gwee flipped back her hair and whipped around her demonic spiked tail. "You don't really think that any of this food is for you now, do you? That would be a stupid thought."

Startled and alarmed, Daray took a few steps backwards. How in the world had the dragon noticed him? Had he been that loud tromping around in the woods?
He was stunned as well at the feminine voice the dragon had... he had failed to take notice that he wasn't really a he, but a she. And a pretty pissed off she, from what he could determine, with the dragon's swaying tail and gleaming eyes glaring at him.
The dragon's grinning made him nervous, and he felt his back legs begin to tremble with fear. Not wanting to show the predator how terrified he truly was, he kept his head held high and snorted.
"Why would I want any of that nasty old meat of yours, anyways?" He lied through his teeth, wondering how the dragon knew what Daray had been lurking around for, "I'm not a killer, like you... I eat the grass and berries of the woods, not the creatures that inhabit it."
Hoping to fool the angry looking Kalona, Daray leaned over and took a bite out of the nearby bush, chewing away at the bits of leaves and berries he had picked up. "Perhaps," Daray thought to himself, "If I manage to get this Kalona to thinking I want nothing to do with the meat... she'll wander off to go do whatever it is she plans to do and I can use that opportunity to snag one of the smaller pieces of meat for myself to give Aita....."

"Inferiors," muttered Gwee with an eye roll. "If I return and see any of my food missing, I will kill you and this is the only warning that you will get. And once you are killed, I will eat your meat straight off your bones. Nothing like a fresh Soquili meat to satisfy one's hunger."
Gwee looked up to the skies and within a second, swooped off the ground and into the sky, flying around in a loop and down into a region of trees to search for her wood.

Daray felt like collapsing the minute the kalona took off into the sky. She had been a frightening display of power and evil, and he felt his back legs, as well as his front ones now, continue to quake and shake with terror.
Taking a deep breath, he walked up and past the trees, looking to one side to make sure that the dragon Soquili had indeed flown off and out of their vision of one another. The last thing he needed would be for her to swoop behind a tree and watch what Daray did next. He really didn't feel like dying today.
He paused as he grew closer towards the pile of carcasses, having reassured himself that she did indeed fly off and could not watch him. Was he really going to risk the anger and rage of a pissed off Kalona? Perhaps if he stole it quickly and ran, the Kalona wouldn't be able to find him, and would give up? It wasn't likely that the two would ever cross paths again, since the land was vast and large....but was it something he was going to chance?
He felt his stomach growl and his thoughts ran back to the bush with leaves and berries on it. Those berries had been scrumptious, and he wanted more. Meat was only appetizing looking with Aita around to look at him approvingly. He was starving for veggies and fruits.
Thinking of Aita snapped his thoughts back to the situation at hand. He was hungry, so she would surely be hungry as well when she awoke. And being the slightly slower Soquili that she was, she would have a tough time finding the meat she needed to survive on.
Keeping Aita in his mind, he made his decision. He would take some of the already cooked me and run as quickly as he could back to Aita, hoping to not be caught or seen by the Kalona. He foolishly assumed that he was a fast enough horse that could possibly outrun the Kalona, but Daray tended to think foolishly about alot of things.
Leaning over the pile, Daray snapped up one of the larger rabbits in his teeth, and pressed down for good measure. Turning around, he swiftly took off into the woods, in Aita's cave's direction, silently praying and hoping the dragon would not return for quite some time.

A few hundred yards away from her unattended feast, Gwee landed in an foresty area, luckily, to Gwee's convience, also with some broken sticks and branches lying on the floor. Perhaps this trip was going to take sooner than she thought. Gwee reached down and grabbed as much wood as she could in her mouth and used her tail to wrap around some other pieces of wood. She then began to fly off, a bit slowly to make sure she doesn't drop the wood. Although, she did enjoy the thought of dropping the wood on that stallion she had just seen.
((Let you get one more post before he is caught. XD))

(( after reading your post, I got this mental image of a stick flying out of nowhere konkin' Daray on the head, and him giving this "... wtf?! D:" expression with Gwee cackling up in the air above him xDD; ))
Doing his best not to pant due to lack of breath, Daray forced his muscles to strain themselves to go faster, mental praying that the kalona would take her time fetching whatever it is she wanted to get. It would take another mile or so to get where Aita was, and Daray hoped his body would last that long, in the tired state that it was in. Dodging trees, branches, and rocks on the ground, his hooves pounded loud and hard against the dead leaves and dirt, giving away his location.
The fur of the rabbit stuck in his mouth, and he hated the bits of hair that were tickling his tongue, but he clenched his jaw tighter on the dead creature and forced himself faster. He knew he couldn't outrun a flying dragon, but he'd as sure as hell try his best.

Gwee flew down to see the stallion running away from her meal. Swooping down, Gwee noticed some of the food was missing. Oh, that foolish stallion. Gwee dropped the wood instantly and flew after the running stallion as fast as she could. She let out a large flame to the stallion, hoping to burn him as she swiftly dodged a tree in her path. Nothing would get in her way of killing this stallion...she had a score to settle. Nobody messes with Gwee's food.

All it took was to hear a loud rustle from the trees behind him to know that he had been caught. Still running, he jerked his head around to see the angry looking green and pink kalona rushing after him, her powerful wings flapping in the air, the trees and leaves around them bending down to her will as the wind rushed against them.
Fortunate for him, the moment he glanced back was also the moment Gwee sent her blazing fire towards him, and he managed to dodge away from the streak of flames with only a partially scorched tail and rump. It hurt like hell, but at least he was still alive, right?
Unfortunate for him, however, was the fact that he remained watching Gwee in case of a second flame attack, and found himself running directly into a tree with full force. Howling in anguish from the impact, he let go of the rabbit meat and toppled to the ground, his head splintering with pain. His body was sore from the tree, his head felt worse than it ever had, and his backside smelled and felt similar to that of Gwee's dinner that he had stolen from.
Forcing himself to get back up, he attempted to begin his run once again, but found himself running at only half of his original speed, his head still woozy and aching from his stupidity.
What the hell was he going to do now?
