Gwyn was not normally a teacher. She was not normally on Gaia either. Here visiting her older sister the woman She was far more interested in her own work but the she had misestimated the inflation here. When a bulletin for a short-term teaching position opened up, Gwyn had jumped at it.
So here she was in one of the most ill-prepared classrooms ever, awaiting a child who, according to her instructions, needed to learn how to control a rather specific talent.

The door opened and Halcyon was led into the the classroom by Cordain. He took one, long, examining look at Gwyn before he nodded to her and left Halcyon there as he walked towards the door. "This is my son Halcyon, take good care of him." he stated before the door was closed and he was outside the room.
Halcyon walked over to Gwyn and looked up at her, "...So you're the one to teach me how to understand this?" he opens up an old dark elven spell book and set it down.

Gwyn glanced at the book and laughed. Oh, that was funny. "No," she said shortly. "I'm here to teach you how to control your power. Books, spells. That's not exactly begginners stuff." the woman said tartly. Gesturing for the boy to follow her, Gwyn settled in a corner of the room.
"First start with meditation, clearing the mind and organizing it," a look speared the child as if Gwyn doubted his abilites.

((Which one?))
Halcyon nodded his head slowly before he followed behind Gwyn and seated himself down on the floor. He pulled a crystal out of a pouch and held it in his hands before he closed his eyes. He sat there, trying to clear his mind but he kept thinking of things.
Outside, Cordain leaned against a wall, waiting silently since he had not even the vaguest clue how to teach the basics of magic anymore.

"Take deep, even breaths." the woman said, dropping her voice down to a soft rumble. "In..... and out.... In.. and out....." She kept up the pattern of breathing for a while until it seemed Halycon could keep up on his own. Watching the boy she paced around the room softly. They would keep this up until he could clear his mind and keep it clear, empty of all thoughts for at least ten minutes.
Ordinarily the woman would simply keep classes at this state for weeks, but she did not have weeks to go. And it wasn't like she was trying to turn the child into a mage.

Halcyon tried to clear his mind, he tried so very hard too, but it wasn't working. Even with taking the deep, even breaths she mentioned. His mind was still all over and imagining. Wondering what kinds of magics he'll do one day, if he'd become an evil wizard or a heroic one like in the books he read.
Cordain stood outside, silent as death as it were. Listening to what was going on in the room. While it may have seemed that he abandoned his child with a stranger, in truth he stayed nearby just in case.

Gwyn stomped back and forth after the boy had been trying for what seemed like hours. Though she knew that time always seemed to slow when it was around meditation, whether watching or practicing. Still the class couldn't really proceed until the boy mastered clearing his mind.
"If you cannot clear your mind completely," Gwyn spoke, "Then start with thinking of just one thing. Once you get that, banish that thought. Just.. float."

"Everytime I try to clear my mind I feel my crystal and end up focusing on crystals." He responds to Gwyn. He opens his eyes and shifts how he's holding the crystal, clearing his mind of all but the crystal. However he remains unable to clear the crystal out of his mind.

"Well," the woman drawled, pleased to see he had at least been trying, "that's a start. But you do need to go from there to blanking your mind. Focus on a crystal and then once you have it perfectly created in your mind, erase it." She paced around tapping her lip. Meditation came so easily to her now that it was hard to remember the days when she was first mastering it. "We'll try that for another half hour or until you get it. If that won't work, we'll try other forms of meditating."

Halcyon focused on the crystal, forming it perfectly within his mind. Then he made it fade away until there was nothing. It took several tries, and it kept trying to come back, but eventually, he succeeded, utter mental blankness.
Cordain stood outside, listening to the silence, aware in some way of what transpired within.

Finally. The boy seemed to get the hang of meditating. At least as far as no longer protesting about the exercise went. After a while, Gwyn spoke. "Well?" She asked, referring to his progress.
With a satisfactory answer the the woman pondered a bit before going to look at a piece of paper she had been given regarding her duties. "Crystal shaping?" She asked curiously. Well.. Whatever her employers wanted.. "Since you've managed to clear your mind, we'll move onto the next step. I guess. I'm glad to see you brought a crystal with you. You have shown that you can focus on a crystal. What you need to do now is focus on *that* crystal. Really get to know how it works and is put together. While your doing that I will get a few other crystals for you to see how each one is different." With a stern glare at her pupil, he better not goof off, the woman strode out the doorway.
A raised eyebrow was shot at Cordain, but the woman didn't spare him much more than that as she went to scour the place for crystals.

Halcyon nodded his head to his teacher before he focused on the crystal. It was easy for him to do that, they fascinated him more than magic. Especially this one that he hold, the one that if he let it get to far away, it bothered him, greatly and deeply.
Cordain watched the woman make her way out and gave her a curt nod. He didn't spare her much more than that as he didn't have any inclination to chat her up. Sure she was attractive but he had more pressing matters at hand, the education of his son. Which suddenly, that came first to him since his birth.

Within a few moment she returned. Once more she acknowledged Cordain before stepping inside the room. Finding a spot on the table she set the objects she had been carrying down. A jar of sugar, a shaker of salt and a diamond earring. Precisely she opened each jar and removed one crystal from each. Pulling out a paper she thought for a moment before writing something down.
"What did you find out about your crystal?" the woman asked Halycon suddenly.

Cordain nodded to Gwyn as she passed, otherwise he did nothing. Although, in the time she was gone, he had pulled out a book and began reading it silently.
Halcyon looked right at Gwyn before he spoke, "It is connected to me some how...I feel like I can change it, and if I did, I would be changing myself." he said in a calm, light tone. He rolled the crystal about in his hands as he watched it curiously then looked to the crystals she had put down on the table.

"Allright," the woman said. Gesturing to the crystals on the table she stepped back a bit. "And using the same meditation technique what can you tell me about these crystals?"
