Grazing on whatever she could find in this colder season, Dyani smiled contently at the two young deer as they admired the world. Already Maysa was a graceful little thing, dainty and careful with her movements. Never was the dark brown fawn far from her mother's side.

Except for today, as she crept away across the meadow, ears perked up and her body shaking slightly with nervousness. Of course, Maysa made sure Dyani was always in view, but never before had she wandered so far away. It was quite a feat for the unadventurous little fawn.

Moving with careful high steps she looked around, those green eyes so similar to her mothers wide with delight. With a wriggle of her little pink nose, Maysa stuck her head down into a patch of grass and snuffled, vaguely wondering why her mother seemed to find it so tasty. Jerking her head back up she stared back towards her mother and twin, just making sure they hadn't moved too far away.

Everything seemed in order, so she moved a few more feet away, gazing curiously at the various hinds scattered around the area.

Cledwyn wandered around the forest until he reached the meadow. His poor eyesight prevented him from seeing anything further than the tip of his nose. That didn't bother the weak storyteller, though. Despite him being smaller than most of the grown stags, he felt that size didn't matter when it came to intelligence. Being more intelligent than the normal stag, he had became a storyteller early in life.

Stopping in his tracks, he gazed at the many Herla in the meadow. The smudges of what he knew were other Herla moved past him as if he wasn't there. A smaller smudge was seen dashing away from from two smudges grazing on what looked like grass poking out of the snow. Shaking his head slightly, he started to move closer to the smaller Herla. "That is dangerous," he said to Maysa.

Maysa snuffled again at the grass, her short little tail waving back and forth. The now that had fallen had held her attention for many days when it first arrived, though to start with she'd been somewhat frightened by this strange white mist that covered the land. With a squeal she had hidden against her mothers side, uncertain what to do but suddenly cold and unhappy. Now it was an every day thing and Maysa was more inclined to think it pretty rather than scary.

There was a sound behind her, a voice breaking through her thoughts. The little fawn whirled around, green eyes big and bright in surprise. She hadn't heard the stags approach at all. Sniffling slightly, Maysa took a step back while staring up at him a little frightened. The only other male she had ever met was her father and that wasn't very often.

After a moment she relaxed, just a little, unable to deny her curiousity. This stag was smaller than her father, and white, just like sister Tegwen. Tegwen was white and she was really nice, so this stag must be nice too. "O..ok." She said in her soft voice. Watching him, a thought struck her, almost making her smile past that little bubble of anxiousness. "You... you're made of snow." She told him.

Cledwyn twitched an ear slightly, now being able to see the fawn a little bit better now that he was closer to her. He pawed at the frozen ground carefully, not sure of what to think about the comment he just heard from the fawn's maw. "Snow? I am not made of snow. I am like you, only I am white in color." He turned his head slightly so that he was looking at Mysa out of one eye.

Pawing the snow again, he turned his gaze from the fawn to the two figures in the distance. "Is that your mother?" he asked Maysa curiously. "I would think a youngster like you would be sticking by their mother's side." He nodded his head slightly. He wondered what pelt color the young fawn was. Despite him being able to see a little clearer, the color was hard to distinguish.

"I... I know... but..." Maysa suddenly felt very uncertain, her head drooping slightly as she tried to reorder her thoughts. "You... are... have a snow spirit." The words came out in a stuttered heap, leaving her feeling rather embarrassed and foolish over, two emotions she wasn't used to at all. "Mama told me a story with snow spirits and..." She stared up at him hopefully.

The little fawn turned her head to look towards where her mother and sister where standing, ears perking up. Suddenly on safe talking ground, she smiled up at Cledwyn. "Oh yes. That's my mama." She said in her soft yet enthusiastic voice. "I'm always with mama, but it's ok now. I just wanted to... look."

Cledwyn twitched an ear slightly and lowered his head down so that it was even with the fawn's. "Snow spirit? I never heard of a snow spirit before. I have heard of Speakers and Storytellers, but never snow spirits. I am, after all, one of the fable Storytellers. I have heard many tales in my day, but never one of a spirit like that." He chuckled deep in his throat and sighed softly.

Cledwyn nodded his head when he heard the tiny fawn say that the big smudge was her mother. He flicked a white ear slightly and smiled. "I'm sure your mother is as sweet as you are. Your father must be one nice buck, too." He nodded his head again and let his body lie down on the snow-covered ground. "Would you mind coming closer so that I can see you better? My eyes have never been in the best condition and they have worsened with my old age."

"R-really?" Maysa asked, her eyes wide. This white stag was a storyteller? To the young fawn that seemed something incredible and wonderful, so that Cledwyn took on a sort of mystical quality. Perhaps, if she were nice enough, he would tell her some stories? "Mama tells lots of stories... but sometimes she forgets the endings." At that Maysa giggled, remembering the many times Dyani's mind would drift off during the middle of a story.

Thinking over her mother, Maysa peeked around again and saw that Dyani was staring at them. Maysa did a little sort of happy leap and after a moment the hind lowered her head to graze again, obviously satisfied her daughter was in no immediate danger. "Oh mama is so very sweet and she really likes papa, so papa must be very sweet too. But I've only met him once when I was really, really small." Family seemed to be one of Maysa's favourite topics.

Nodding at his request, and finding herself quite happy to be in his presence, Maysa moved closer. When she was at his side she folded her long skinny legs beneath her, gracefully lying down beside him. With a casual show of affection, she rubbed her dark brown head against his side. "Can we be... friends?" She asked shyly.

Cledwyn nodded his head slightly, happy that the youngster was excited about hearing that he was a storyteller. Many of the older deer would just groan when they heard that he was a storyteller. Cledwyn thought that the other deer thought that he would just ramble on and on about a dead legend or something that they already knew. Tucking his legs under his body, he listened to Maysa say that her mother told her stories, but often forgot the ending. He chuckled deep in his throat. "Many deer are like that. I guess I am blessed with a good memory of many tales I have been told over the years. It takes a great deal of talen to recall many tales that I have been told."

Seeing the young fawn look over at her mother, he glanced over too only to see dark smudges. He narrowed his eyes slightly to see if he could see the other deer clearer, but that didn't help at all. He then decided to listen to the young fawn as she explained her parents' temperments to him. "So, you've only been with your mother? I think that your father should have a better role in your life than just wandering away whenever he feels like it."

Hearing the tiny fawn letting her body gracefully lay on the ground, he smiled happily at her and he leaned his head forward to see her coat better. He canted his head to one side and saw that she had green eyes. "Pretty eyes," he said before he felt Maysa's head bump into his side. He lay still for a few moments before hearing her question. Nodding his head, he closed his red eyes, happy that she wanted to be his friend. "Of course we can be friends."

Maysa seemed to think about to for a moment, her ears perked up as she listened to him intently. After a moment her eyes sparkled happily. "Maybe if I try really hard, I can be talented and remember the stories just like you." That was a nice thought. She would be able to tell stories to everyone, and when mama forgot the ending, she would be able to remember it for her.

The fawn shook her head a little, from side to side. "Mama says that papa is really busy looking after the herd. When he has time I know he'll come see me and Sei.” She said it with the bright hopeful enthusiasm of youth, a young creature looking forward to spending time, even the smallest amount, with her father.

"Really?! Mama has green eyes too!" Maysa couldn't possibly be more joyful. She nuzzled Cledwyn's side lovingly. "I've never had a friend before. We'll have lots of fun." It was obvious that she enjoyed the old stags company, despite being a little fawn that would possibly be more suited to others her own age. Truthfully, she didn't really see the difference between them. They were friends, and that was all that mattered.

Cledwyn smiled wider as she said that she will try harder to be talented in story telling. "You'll make a fine Storyteller one of these days. Practice makes perfect," he said in a cheerful voice. He was glad that he was cheering up a tiny foal.

Canting his head slightly, he listened to Maysa tell him about her father. "The head deer, huh? That must be tough on your mother, yet at the same time very rewarding. I bet he is planning the next day he will spend time with you and your sibling." He tried to gaze around to see if any other the other deer were staring at them, but saw nothing but black blurs. Frowning slightly, he almost opened his maw to mutter a bad word, but he caught himself. 'I must not say such foul words in front of an innocent foal,' he thought to himself.

Hearing her happy exclaimation, he smiled at her again and nodded her head. "I bet her eyes are as pretty as yours are," he said to her as he bumped his nose into her forehead in a friendly gesture. "I'm sure we will have lots of fun." He didn't really mind making friend with young foals, unless it turned into something else. He didn't want the other deer to think that he was some sort of a pervert by making a young foal his mate so early in her life. He wanted time to find his own mate, whether it is on accident or on purpose.

"Thankyou, thankyou. I'll work hard." Maysa's simple little fawn mind already had great plans for her storytelling future. It was going to be wonderful. She and Cledwyn could sit together and tell stories to all the fawns; stories about brave stags, beautiful hinds and wondrous adventures.

"Mama really likes papa... she's so nice." But of course Cledwyn must already know that. Because Dyani was the prettiest, nicest hind there could ever be and everyone knew it. Even if Maysa hadn't met anyone else and asked them about that, she was certain that everyone must know, because it was obvious to her.

A cute pink nose wrinkled slightly in a happy smile. She lifted her muzzle up to touch Cledwyn's. "We will. Heaps of fun." She tilted her head to the side slightly, contemplating things.

Cledwyn smiled again as he heard Maysa say that she will work hard to try and become a storyteller like he was. He had heard that other storytellers took protential future storytellers under their wing and taught them all there was to know about becoming this special rank. He hoped that she could be taught by him to become a Storyteller when the time was right. Right now he figured that she was a little too young to start her training, but at least he had an idea of what to do if she was to become his pupil.

He flicked an ear slightly as he heard Maysa say that her mother really loved her father. He nodded his head slightly. He didn't question her parents' relationship for a moment. He knew that many male deer had many females as mates, but he felt that many of the does that were in a stag's herla weren't given much attention. He merely shrugged at his thought. "My parents loved each other, too, despite me having many 'mothers'. My father loved all of his does equally. Maybe that's why he became a good lead stag for his old herd. Too bad it died out after I left to become a Storyteller. Famine is the worst sickness someone could ever experience."

He was about to say something else when he felt a muzzle press against his nose. He crossed his eyes slightly and turned his ears outward slightly as he tried to glance down at the nose. Hearing her say that they will have heaps of fun, he chuckled deep in his throat. "That we will," he said in a soft voice.

Maysa listened, eyes bright with interest. Though, at the same time, she couldn't quite hide her puzzlement. Some of the words Cledwyn was using, the young fawn simply just did not know. Such as famine. But what she did understand was the fact that his mama and papa had loved each other a lot. Love was a good thing.

"Oh..."

Then they were in an easier area of thought; one where she could contribute with smiles and nods. Maysa liked the sound of the old stags chuckle. "What do you think we should do? We can play games. I don't know many games yet. I bet my sister does though and mama will know too."

Hearing the young fawn ask what they should do, he canted his head, a little clueless of what there was to do. His poor vision made it impossible for him to play most of the games young fawns played, though the few friends he did have when he was a fawn usually bribed him to play those games, despite him loosing every single time.

He shrugged slightly as he slowly rose to all four hooves. "A game sounds good," he said to Maysa, not wanting to make her upset at him for not wanting to play the games.
