Chapter One***: It Came From The Bushes
Most people think that Eric disppeared. Well, he didn't. My best friend Rose and I know he didn't. I'm Lily-Rose McCurly and Rose are I have are best friends with Eric. He's our guy. And we know the whole story. It all started when Rose was late for school. Her older brother, Max, was the one who caused it. He drives Rose to school everyday and he was running late. Anyway, so walked to school. A boy named Shane Hudgens came up to me. " Hey, Lil!" he said. Shane is one of the most popular boys in school. I don't know why he's my friend or why I even like him, but I do. " Hi, Shane." I said. Rose always says I like him , but I really don't! " Where's Rose?" asked Shane. " Max is probably running late again," I said." Well, I don't know about you, but Rose is always late!" he said. Suddenly, there was a big moan. I froze. Shane kept walking, not noticing the sound. I jerked his arm back. " Did you hear that?" I asked, terrifed. " Uh...no." said Shane, looking at me, strangely. " I must be more tired than I thought!" I said. " Either that or you're going crazy!" said Shane. This might of been the freakiest thing through all of this. Anyway, Shane and I walked side by side and when we got to school, it was like it never happened. My first peirod teacher was Mrs.Lee. She was an old lady and whenever she turned her back to write something on the black board, the kids would chat it up and Mrs.Lee wouldn't care. I don't even know if she realizes. Anyway, I sat next to Shane.I looked over at Rose's seat. She wasn't there, to my surprise. It was strange. That reminded me of the bizarre sound I heard. Anyway, I got out my reading book and started to read. Suddenly, Rose rushed in late. She looked so pale that at first, I thought she was a ghost! " Rose! Are you all right?" asked Mrs.Lee, noticing she was pale. " Uh...uh...gliss." said Rose. Right then and there I knew for sure that she had to have heard the noise! She glanced at Shane and I and took her seat. " Gliss?" asked Mrs.Lee, narrowing her eyes. " Sorry, Mrs. Lee. I had an...interesting morning." said Rose. " I can see that, Rose. Good morning and relax." she said. Rose looked at me. I was scared too and I'm pretty sure Shane was freaked. At recess, Shane came up to Rose and I. " Okay, what's going?" he demanded.Rose looked like she was about to burst out crying. " Rose! Are you okay?!?" I exclaimed. I was beyond worried. Beyond freaked out. " Today, Max was late to bringing me to school because he spent a night at his friend's house and supposedly, forgot to tell me. Once I found out, I decided to just walk to school alone. While I did, a heard a groan! Or maybe a cry for help..I don't know! It came from the bushes," Rose began. My face was so red at this point that it looked as if my face was turned inside out. " Didn't you say something about a groan or whatever, Lily-Rose?" asked Shane. I nodded, slowly. " You did, Lil?" [asked Rose. " Yes...but Shane didn't hear it! I was ...so freaked out!" I exclaimed. " So was I! So, I went to the bushes and at first, I saw nothing. I began to turn back, when something grabbed my arm back!" she yelled. I screamed. Shane was as pale as anything. Rose began to cry. " What happened?!?" yelped Shane. I could tell he was into it. You know how boys are with action and scary stuff like this. But Shane sounded a little freaked out. No, a lot freaked out. He was trying to not show it, though. " So, I looked back and saw this man! He was dirty and his face...." Rose was crying, hysterically. " His face what?!?" I screamed." DEFORMED! HORRIBLE!" she yelped. She buried her face in her hands. Shane and I looked at each other. " Was he a ...kidnapper or something?" asked Shane. Rose shot up. " OF COURSE NOT! He was crying! Begging! He told me that some brats were making fun of him and he had no place to go! I felt so bad, I started to cry. You don't understand, you guys! He is...is...the phantom of the opera!" Rose yelled. " The who?" I asked. " You never heard of the play?!? It's about a guy who lives in this old opera house and he falls in love with the lead singer of the opera! But the girl is in love with another guy. So the phantom guy whose face is deformed ends up lonely!" sobbed Rose. I was beginning to think that this was fake, but I knew it couldn't of been. Rose never lies. On April Fool's Day, Rose says it's a day of foolishness and useless tricks and that it is a disaster waiting to happen. I don't understand her sometimes, but I knew she wasn't faking it. This was real and sad. We were all quiet for a moment. " We need to save him." said Rose. We all stared at Rose. " Save him?" I asked. " Yeah. He said he needed help!" she exclaimed. " Helping a defomed freak?" asked Shane. Rose grabbed him by the shirt. " Don't ever EVER call him that again, got me?!?" she yelled, threateningly. " Okay!" said Shane and she let go. " Okay, beating up Shane isn't an option right now! Look, Rose, we don't even know this guy!" I exclaimed. " I've known him since I was seven when I saw the musical on broadway!" Rose exclaimed. " Dude, what are you talking about?" asked Shane. " I'm saying since I was seven, I've been in love with the phantom of the opera! Max told me I was crazy and my parents said he was just make-believe, but now I know he isn't!" she exclaimed. " Well, this is sounding a little crazy!" exclaimed Shane. " No!" said Rose. "I cannot believe this!" I exclaimed. " Rose, this is scary!" exclaimed Shane, admitting he was freaked out. " Guys, we need to save him! It's...it's a good deed!" she exclaimed again. Rose never passes a chance to do a good deed. She once told me that if she fails at being an artist when she grows up, she's going right to church and becoming a nun. That's Rose for you. " Rose, shut up about your good deed crud! It's stupid! This is serious!" said Shane. Shane once told me that he is going to rock at becoming a famous skateboarder. He also told me that ' all the girls want him' . That's Shane for you. Me, however, I am honest, pretty, kind and smart. That's all I need to be. I know myself and I'm not afraid to speak my mind if I think something is unfair or wrong. My older brother, Jake, says I would make a killer lawyer. But me...I want to be an actress or a writer. Jake also said to me that I would make an excellent actress because I'm the biggest twelve year old drama queen he had ever seen. That's true, too. I hope I don't come off as conceited, because I know I'm not even close to perfect. But I can't complain about my life. Well, now I can. " Rose, it is. We don't know what he will do to us! What if he is trying to kidnapp us?" asked Shane again. " Aren't boys stupid and don't worry about things?" I asked. Rose started to walk away. We caught up with her. " What are you doing?" I asked, beginning to get annoyed. " You guys aren't helping me! Eric is the most caring guy in the whole world, and we--" " Caring guy in the world? Are you kidding me? I saw the movie, Rose! He killed a guy!" interruped Shane. Rose glared at him. " He killed him for a girl, you moron!" she exclaimed at him. Shane was speechless. Whoever this guy was, Rose loved him a lot.
Chapter Two***: The Theater House On Downstreet
Rose begged after school for us to help him. Finally, I gave in. But Shane wasn't all that easy. " No," he said. " Please?" asked Rose, whining. " No," he said again. " Pretty please, with sugar on top?" she whined. " I don't think so," he said. Rose wasn't going to be a good lawyer. Despite the fact she used the whining tick ' pretty please with surgar on top'. So, that's where I step in. " Okay, Shane Hudgens," I said, sticking out my hand for him to shake. He looked at me funny, like I was wearing clashing clothes and doing the hokey pokey or something. He shoke it, though. " I'm Lily-Rose McCurly. And I'm Rose Davis' lawyer. I have it understood that you are obessed with skateboarding, correct?" I asked, talking like a lawyer. " Lily, I've known you since kindergarten!" he claimed. " Shh! None of that!" I told him. Shane nodded, slowly. " Very well. Therefore, I am sure you want someone to skateboard with you?" I asked, still talking like a lawyer. Shane nodded again, slowly. " Rose Davis is willing to skateboard with you everyday, after school at three for a month. Do we have a deal?" I asked. " No! You donnot have a deal!" exclaimed Rose. She pulled me aside. " You're nuts!" she exclaimed. I rolled my eyes and scoffed. " Miss.Davis, you obivously don't have a lawyer's charm, so you don't know what's going on. Just leave the lawyer talk to me." I said. Rose still looked angry. I turned back to Shane, smiling. " This is a once in a lifetime chance," I said. " No kidding!" said Rose.
Shane looked at us and smiled and stuck out his hand. " Fine. You have a deal." he said. He and I shook hands. It felt awkward. He turned red and so did I. Rose snickered. I rolled my eyes. " Okay, so where is this guy exactly?" I asked. " He told me he was going to stay in the old shed in my backyard," said Rose. " What? You stuck him in that old thing?" asked Shane, as we walked to Rose's house. Rose glared at him. " Keep it up, Shane! Or I won't skateboard with you!" she exclaimed. " You have to! You agreed!" he said. " No, I didn't! Lily-Rose did!" Rose shot back. " Shut up, you two! It's time to get it together! We have to figure out how to help him." I said. They were silent. " Well, what does he need help with?" asked Shane. " He didn't say. He was crying so hard and I was crying so hard, he just didn't say. And also, I was late as it was for school." Rose said. I nodded. " Okay. So, when we see him, we can ask him. How simple can it possibly get?" I asked. Rose froze in her tracks. " What?" I asked. " Not so simple!" she said, pointing to her old shed. The door was opened and I bet you a thousand bucks that Eric wasn't in it.
Rose ran to to the shed and Shane and I ran after her. Rose looked in the shed. " Oh, no! He's really gone!" she exclaimed. " Where would he go?" I asked, openly. Rose's face lit up. " The theater house!" she exclaimed and rushed away. Shane and I, once again, ran after her. " Rose! Rose!" I called. She finally stopped and faced me. " The what house?" I asked. " You know, the theater house! The theater center where all the plays are put on! You should know, Lil! Considering, you want to be an actress!" Rose said to me. " Rose, now is not the time to critize Lily-Rose for her bad skills in acting! Why would he hide there?" asked Shane. I rolled my eyes at his comment. I do know where the theater house is. It's on downstreet. It's a huge building and inside, there's a huge stage with red curtains and I was in a play there four times before. I was Dolly, in Hello Dolly, I was Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls, I was Sally in Me And My Girl, and I was Sally in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. If you know any of these plays, you'll know that I was the star in everyone. I was. It's just I haven't been since fifth grade, which was last year. And this whole phantom thing was confusing me, so I didn't even think! Anyway, Rose let out a mad sigh. " Am I the only one who cares here?!? THE THEATER HOUSE! He hid out in the OPERA house! Theater house, opera house!" said Rose. I got the idea. So did Shane. Shane and I looked at each other as Rose left. " She's going to have to ride the biggest and most dangerous ramp when she rides with me!" said Shane. I smiled and chuckled.
That is where Elizabeth comes in. Elizabeth Smith was the most popular girl in school and she was competion because she is a good actress. She and I are always fighting for parts in plays. So far, she has been the co-star with me. Elizabeth Smith is a snob and I have no interest in incountering her in anything, but this was business. Also, Rose is my friend. I'm doing this mainly for her. When we walked in the theater house, there was an adutoitum and hallways leading to party rooms and bars. You can have dinner there and then go to see a play. Or you can have a party there. Elizabeth was in the hallway, with a couple of her friends. They left when they saw us. Elizabeth had long, black, straight and shiny hair. I smiled. I was in a good mood. I guess, a lawyer mood. She was surprised I was smiling at her. " Elizabeth Smith," I said, sticking out my hand. She looked at me weird and instead of shaking my hand, she tossed her long hair. " My friends call me Lizzie," she said. " Okay, Lizzie," I corrected. " You aren't my friend!" she said. I rolled my eyes. " Okay, well we need your help with something. Our friend has disappeared and supposedly, he loves hanging out in theater places," I explained. Elizabeth looked at me, strangely. It was a strange day. " Why would you have a friend, in the first place, and why would he want to hang out here?" she retorted. Elizabeth was in no mood to be nice to me. " Well, I don't know. He just would. Have you seen him around?" I asked. " He has black, short hair and he wears mask!" exclaimed Rose, chiming in. Elizabeth made another weird face at us. " He sounds like a freak. No wonder why he hangs out with you! But, Shane," she said, acting nice toward Shane. Shane was speechless. " You are super popular! How come you don't hang out with Ricky Larson or the " in" crowd?" she asked, in a sweet little voice. I wanted to punch her.Ricky Larson was one of the coolest guys in the sixth grade. To me, he was a shallow jerk. He only likes girls because of their looks. That's the most shallowest thing I have ever heard of! He once told me that I'm pretty, but I'm not a cheerleader and I told him, even if he asked me out, I wouldn't even consider it. Shane smiled. " Well, I'm just hanging with them, so they can get to know what the meaning of popularity means." said Shane. Elizabeth giggled. I wanted to throw her against the wall and rip out her thoart! " Elizabeth! We are here to know where our friend is! Now, help us! Please!" I yelped. Elizabeth frowned at me and took a deep breath. " All right. I think I saw a masked guy walk in here. Shelly and I asked him if he ever looked in a mirror and he went away, sobbing." she said. She started to laugh a little. " He seems a little...sensitve." she said. " You big jerk!" yelled Rose. " Chill," I told her and turned back to Elizabeth. " So, what else happened?" I asked. Elizabeth tossed her hair. " Uh, hi! I just told you! He went crying down the hallway to God's knows where!" she exclaimed, all condescendingly. I rolled my eyes. " That's all we needed to know. Thank you," I said. " Do you think my hair is pretty?" asked Elizabeth. " Okay, I'll take that as a ' you're welcomed'. But whatever. How should I know how to speak completely-stupid-and-shallow?" I shot at her. Elizabeth made a face at us. " I'm fluent in that language!" said Shane. " We know that, for sure!" said Rose. We were leaving when Elizabeth pulled Shane's arm back. " Do you want to go out with me?" she asked. I froze. My heart pounded. I ran up to him and grabbed his arm. " COME ON!" I yelled.
Shane and I ran down the hallway and Rose ran with us. " WHAT ARE YOU, PHYSCO?!?" screamed Shane. We stopped when I knew we were as far away from Elizabeth as we could get. I caught my breath. " Sorry! But, we donnot need Elizabeth, The Shallow Girl, to cause any trouble here! We need to find this guy!" I exclaimed. " ELIZABETH SMITH IS THE MOST POPULAR AND PRETTIEST GIRL IN THE WHOLE SIXTH GRADE, LILY-ROSE! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT POWER I WOULD HOLD OR HOW GREAT I WOULD LOOK?!?" he screamed at me. " I don't believe in popularity!" I shot at him. " And I don't believe you!" he yelled. It's true. I think popularity is stupid because it only causes bad feelings, snobby people and rumors. All, which I think, is horrible. But don't get me wrong, I'm no saint. But, I would turn down the chance to be popular anyday because it's all a big joke. It was definetely thought up by a guy. If I woke up one day, being Elizabeth Smith, I would have to kill myself.
Chapter Three* : The Story Of The Masked Man
Rose told us that in the play, he never comes out. Rose, however, knew where Eric was. She opened the door to the cellar of the theater house. Shane and I stopped. She looked back at us. " Come on, you guys." Rose told us. " Rose, don't you think...uh...this is dangerous?" asked Shane. " Donnot even tell me you're scared, Shane!" I said. My voice ehoed and we all gasped. " On second thought," I said. Rose rolled her eyes. " You two are scaredy cats! Now, come on!" she exclaimed. " I really rather not!" I said. " Too bad! You said you would help me! Now, come on!" she yelled and tugged on my sleeve and I had to go down with her, of course. Shane followed us and I think Shane and I were both thinking we rather be dead than where we are now. " Eric! It's Rose! Come out! It's all right! I'm with my friends, Lily-Rose and Shane!" she called and we reached the bottom of the stairs. We heard moaning and crying. " That's him!" exclaimed Rose. " Why in the world did you tell him our names?!?" exclaimed Shane. Rose glared at him. " Come out, Eric! It's all right!" she called again. She looked around the dusty cellar and there, came out a masked man, crying.
Rose hugged him and Shane and I stayed as far back as humanly possible. " It's all right, Eric! No need to cry." comforted Rose. She really loved him. Eric looked at us. I smiled, warmly. " Hello, Eric. I'm Lily-Rose. And I'm your friend. Not your enemy." I said. Shane was trying not to crack up from that statement. I sounded like I was a creepy, happy person! " I'm Shane. What up, home dog?" he asked Eric. I rolled my eyes. " I'm...I'm...Eric." said the phantom, starting not to cry. Eric stood there, silently. Rose was stroking his arm and his hair. He didn't show any emotion toward that. " So, what is your story? Why are you here?" I asked him. Eric sat down, indian crossed. We followed him and sat in a circle in the basment floor of the theater house. It was weird, but it was also exciting at the same time. " Well, I smashed my mirror in my lair and ended up in the real world. I didn't know what to do or where to go and I started to roam around, scared. Then, those kids found me and started to laugh at me and then I met Rosie." he said. I raised my eyebrows. " Rosie?" I asked. " Shut up!" said Rose, and smiled at Eric. Shane and I looked at each other and laughed. " So, um, that's your story?" I asked. " Yeah." answered Eric. " Oh, man! I was looking for some action! You know, sword fights, death matches!" said Shane. I shoved him in the arm. " Ow!" he said. " Shut up!" I exclaimed toward and smiled at Eric. " Excuse him. He's weird." I told Eric.
" Did you meet anyone else on your way coming here?" asked Rose, sweetly. " Well, I met this one girl who was sorta pretty. She asked if I ever looked in a mirror and then I ran off." he told us. Urgh! That Elizabeth!

Utakan I'm simply putting this up as a precaution. Some time ago when there were still only three moderators of The Phan Guild, there were individual member topics where they posted their phics for members to see. When we got more mods and Deadly Lullaby began her wondrous clean-up of the Guild, they were removed and all members were told to not do it anymore. Since this is the section for books, and phanphics are literature, I'm simply telling our dear members that this rule is still being enforced. You may discuss different phics whether they are published or still roam the internet, but you may not set up a thread to host your writings in. Thank You. ~Utakan, Co-Captain of Phantom Phan Guild Eesh.
