Seeing Ringlet again had renewed his energy a little, so he felt--and apparently, looked--a lot more vibrant these days; he wasn't sure why, but Ringlet made him feel joyful. He still wasn't sure why, though. Shaking his head, he began to search for something to do; for once, he was bored out of his mind; he had already finished with his training, so now he was mostly... well, lingering around, bored.
What more could he say--do? He sighed, and stared up into the sky. The sun was getting ready to set, but because he was a Kalona, being able to see clearly didn't bother him. He could see in the dark as clear as he could see during the day. His stomach rumbled, and he frowned. Was it time to feed his flesh-craving stomach already? He sighed; well, he would hunt just this once; after all, no one was around, and... well, he was famished.

Slowly trotting through, the small mare had a great time exploring more of the lands. Her gaze trailed up to the sky and noticed that the sun was now setting as she thought. I guess I stayed out later than I thought. She shrugged and just figured that she should just head back to her teepee.
As she traveled on, she noticed a dark figure in the distance, its shape and form becoming more clearer as she got closer. The other seemed to be a horse, but this was odd... it had wings and horns? She quirked her head curiously, but stopped out of fear of not knowing what this other was. Who... or what was this other horse? Would they be a problem to her? She huffed softly, knowing she probably wouldn't figure that out until she met him. Oh joy...

He was too focused on appeasing his snarling stomach to notice that he did have company after all; with his nostrils flaring, his darkened, scarlet eyes searched for a life-giving, flesh covered meal. A slight movement in the grass told him a grown hare was nearby, and with his ears flicking eagerly, he followed it. The hare sprang out the grass as fast as it could, dashing in little hops to get away from its predator, who it could sense was eager to catch it and eat it.
It fled past a mare; thinking the mare would distract its predator, it stopped to wait and watch. That was the hare's mistake as Windflame came upon it, not even noticing the obvious female standing just behind him as he killed the hare, tearing it apart as he bit it down in big pieces, soon finishing his meal as he licked his maw. Blood dripped from his glistening fangs as his eye returned to the blood-red color; no longer darkened in color the the thrill of the hunt.
It was then he noticed her. ...s**t. No one was supposed to ever see him hunt and eat. And this mare was the first one to be a witness.

She was going to make her move to the other, or at least try to go back home, when she noticed them intent on something. Not wanting to interrupt them, she remained where she was and remained quiet. Green eyes watched the other as they started to follow something moving about in the grass. She didn't know what it was until a hare sprang from the grass, her eyes widening.
It was when the hare fled past her, where Charlamagne began to wonder why the other was chasing it. She watched the hare stop behind her before squealing lightly as she turned to see the other, an now obvious stallion, quickly run by her soon after. Eyes wide in horror, she gasped out softly as she watched this other, kill and eat the hare.
When he noticed her, she slowly started to back away. He's some sort of monster... Was all she thought, wondering what she had gotten herself into.

He stared at the mare, his mind moving quickly as he tried to analyze what exactly had happened. He could've sworn he'd been alone; that no other had been around to watch him. He hated that there could be any other Soquili around to see him hunt and eat when his instincts took over; so to suddenly find a mare see him do exactly that, he sighed, resigned to the fact that he would have to convince this mare not to ever speak of what she'd seen. "Who art thou... this one... I... mean..." he began slowly, trying to speak in the modern tongue.
"Who... are you?" he finally managed to say. His speech was spoken with a slight guttural noise due to the hare he'd just eaten, and he looked around for water. "Follow... me," he ordered briskly. "Thou hath seen something thou shouldst not hath seen." He returned to his old tongue because he wouldn't be able to speak faster if he didn't. He made to move, but watched the mare to see whether she understood him and if she would follow him.

She continued to back away, especially now that he was staring at her. She jumped a bit when he spoke to her, especially in the tone that he did.
At first, she didn't understand what he said, mainly because she was too concerned with her well being. It was when he rephrased it when she got it. "I... I... I'm Charlamagne. A-and may I ask who you are?" She stammered a reply, having stopped backing up for now. When she was told to follow him, she blinked and thought. Oh no... he's planning on killing me now isn't he? She shook the thought out of her head, still wanting to think positively about others she meets. She didn't know him well enough, she just can't jump to conclusions. A bit reluctantly, she began to walk over to him. "I-I'm sorry... was I-I not supposed to be here?"

He glanced back at her as he led her to a clear lake that sparkled under the moonlight. Slowly, the modern tongue formed words in his mouth as he spoke. "This one... I am called Windflame Bloodrider." He waited a moment, and then realized she was scared of him. Well, she was one of very first mares to have seen him eat up a living, breathing creature. "You... weren't supposed to see what... just happened," he explained.
Things were not good... the water felt delicious and refreshing and cleansing all at once as he drank it down, slowly but surely. He turned to her. This Charlamagne... she was a unique looking common mare, that was for sure. "It... is a pleasure to meet you, Lady Charlamagne. I... apologize... profusely for what you saw. It was never meant for eyes like thine." He could tell she was innocent; or had been, until she'd seen what he'd done.

Slowly still, she followed him to the lake, looking in awe as the moonlight sparkled over the water's surface. She walked a bit closer as he glanced back to her and told her his name. "I-it's a pleasure to meet you as well Windflame... despite the circumstances on how we met." She still tried to steady her heart, feeling it pound against her chest. "I-I'm sorry... I didn't realize this. I'm still fairly new here." She replied, lowering her head slightly.
Great, my first time around and I'm already causing problems. She thought as she watched him take a drink from the water. "There is no need to apologize. I should be the one apologizing for being somewhere I wasn't supposed to." She told him softly, looking away.

Finished with satisfying his thirst and managing to wash away the blood on his muzzle, he looked up and back at Charlamagne. "The circumstances... ist that what thou callth it?" he mused, and then corrected his speech. "This one... I... I mean..." he took a deep breath. "New? That explains many things, young one... 'Tis all right that you did not realize it. I should... have been much more careful."
He sensed a sudden tension in the air, but then put it aside as being him since he was slightly worried about this mare. She could be traumatized for all he knew considering she had seen how he ate flesh and blood. He sighed mentally. "You, Lady Charlamagne, have no need to apologize, either. I should have just been much more careful and rechecked the area. A mare like you should not have seen what you have seen..."

Slowly, she walked to the lake and too, took a drink. Not because she was thirsty or anything like that, but more to sooth her razzled nerves. After getting her fill, she brought her head back up to look at him, a few drops of water still dripping from her muzzle. She listened to him intently, having noticed he changed his dialect a numerous times while talking to her. This confused the small mare, tilting her head in response. "If you do not mind me asking... why do you always seem to change the way you speak? I-I mean, I don't mind it. It just seems like you're forcing yourself to do so." She asked softly, hoping she didn't upset him. When he mentioned that she shouldn't have seen the gruesome sight that she did, she nodded slightly. "I would have to agree... I would have probably avoided it if I knew what was coming."

He was looking away from her, knowing that his intense look would probably frighten her more than what he probably already looked like to her. "Because... this one came... I came from an island not too long ago... well, actually, from a Clan who was not touched by the modern world," he summed up, trying to be as discreet as possible. "This one forces mineself to speak in thy tongue so that thou can understandth this one better," he finally finished, tired of having to switch his tongue. He spoke really slowly in the modern tongue, because he was still unused to speaking in the first person. "No, thou wouldth been wiser and hidden thyself till mine hunt was over. To avoid merely arouses mine lust for a good hunt," he warned. "After all," he flicked his immensely long, braided tail, "for a mare like thyself, thy wouldst been unable to escape this one as thou hath managed to luckily do this night." He felt terrible saying those things to her, but it was better she knew rather him having to dance around trying to mince his words and making things sound like clouds and rainbows.

Ears flicked just slightly as she listened intently to his explination. Once he was done, she nodded. "That's interesting... but if it means anything, I can understand you just fine without you changing how you talk. I mean... if I didn't, I would have said so." She told him. She let out a small snort in hopes to blowing some of the blue strands of hair away from her face... it worked, kind of. With that out of the way, she idley kicked her hoof into the ground. His statement didn't really help the situation, it causing her stomach to knot up again, but she guessed it had to be said. "I guess that's true... but I would have rather not stumbled upon it than hide and still see it."

He looked back at her with an incredulous look, nearly gaping as he allowed the one moment to express his shocked emotion. Charlamagne was added to his small list of Soquili who saw his more hidden emotions just before he returned to his impassive, stone-faced self. It wasn't good to be too trusting; however, being who he was, sometimes he couldn't help himself. "Thou art truly kind, Lady Charlamagne," he commented, tilting his head in an act of respect. He blinked, and then realized that perhaps he'd been too... blunt, too assuming. "Forgiveth this one, Lady," he proceeded to apologize, "But this one didst not thinkth of that. Thou hath a point."

The small mare couldn't help but tilt her head at his look that he gave her. Did she say something wrong? She doubted that as she shook the thought off and flicked her tail. "I try Windflame... and please, just call me Charlamagne... or even Charl will do." She replied with a small smile. Just because they started off on the wrong hoof, doesn't mean that she still didn't have to be friendly... or that they couldn't possibly be friends. When he had asked for forgiveness, she tilted her head a bit more, about to ask why he was asking for it. It was when he said that she had a point that she figured it out. "I do? That's a first. But there's no need to apologize."

He nodded, understanding that she forgave him and even allowed a hint of a smile to hover for a moment before he returned to a more emotionless mask. His incredulous vanished as he studied the smaller mare in front of him. She almost felt like a young filly to him; and he, though he would never admit it, adored young foals, for they were filled with an innocence and a constant hyperness that spoke of life. Life, and joy... though this mare was obviously an adult, she gave him a... strange feeling. He mentally frowned, unable to place the emotion, but conceeded to her wishes to call her by what she wanted to be called. He was, however, unused to using nicknames, so therefore, he stuck to her full name. "Charlamagne, as thou wish," he agreed. He cocked his head. "How can there not be a need to apologize? Well, if thy sayth so, then it shall be." He continued to observe her, and then decided if she ever chose to come to him for anything (he had no idea where this emotion came from), he would protect her, just as he would protect his own mate.
