Too many people are starting to catch on. Lots of donation letter buying and selling is going on, increasing the supply of non-renewable items. This is causing a sharp decline in appreciation rates due to a relative increase in supply, which will ultimately cause the absolute wealth of rather well-to-do Gaians like myself to decline as we sell our items over the long term. Returns can be expected to decrease relative to previous returns. We'll have to hold rare items longer in order to allow for current appreciation rates to catch up, and the hold time will be longer still as supply continues to increase geometrically. I still have my December items a year later, and I can't sell them because they haven't appreciated quite enough.

What can we do about this situation? Can any Gaian economic experts provide us with hints to correct this situation? I don't expect the situation to get better with the new held items because, though appreciation is speeding up due to an increased demand, I expect that supply will quickly catch up. Maybe this October those of us who invested will get lucky, but we may not see profitable returns for a while, and we can expect to see these rates continue to decline over time as more and more speculators enter the donation items investment market.

Opinions? Comments? Confused looks?

Yes, this is something I have noticed as well -- having joined Gaia just after people started catching on to the "buy in mass" phenomenon. However, Jovo, you can always hope that more limited-time events may come to pass. With this I refer less to the Trick-or-Treating type events and more to the more limited Zombie Game events. I, myself, missed out on that entirely.

In defense of us poor Gaians, it's hard to make enough gold to buy things. And many Gaians aren't even old enough to have jobs, to make money, to get the donation letters that Gaia gives out to those that do donate. At least with some of those people who do donate, and later sell their multiple letters to those of us that can't donate, and I appreciate that. It means that I have a chance to get some of the rarer items on Gaia, especially since server crashes kept me from being able to participate in the Halloween event at Gambino's Mansion.

JoVo: There's also nothing over-rated about generosity. You could also just give someone you care about deeply, or even feel earned something, your extra letters. Instead of complaining about a "market reality" that doesn't really exist, especially since Gaia will continue changing and expanding, be generous with what you've been blessed with.

Yeah, most people were not able to get the zombie, human-related items.

So hold on to those items. The prices have already skyrocketed to - what I saw - around 10k each.
And the event just ended yesterday. Although, you only have 2 of each labcoat, and I don't know how many shirts, so that will probably hinder you.

Basically, what you need to do is keep what you're doing now, but have more money coming in than going out.

Stop donating to your gaia charaties (so much), and don't buy new clothes whenever they come out.

You seem to do pretty well with this next one, but I believe you have a hell of a lot of items in your inventory still... You should only have 1 -2 sets of store-bought clothing.

I only have one set, which I wear all the time. Everything else is for selling later, and aren't store-bought.

Secondly, you need to learn how to sell your stuff better.

I have searched your posts, and you've only had about one post in the marketplace.
You also, to my knowledge at least, don't have a vending license.

The thing for you is that you have the pleasure of being rich right now, so you have money to fall back on for anything.

I, on the other hand, am poor, and have only been rich once- because I worked hard for it. But enough about me. More for my clark Howard-ness.

Buy a vending license, and sell clothes you do not want. What I do, is I go to a store, see how much the sellback for the item I want to sell is, and shoot for selling the item over this price in the marketplace.

I then go to the marketplace, search for my item by using "lowest price", then search for the lowest buy only price that's currently on the market.

If it is way over the sellback price, I sell 25 - 50g under the lowest price listed. If It is very close to sellback price, I will usually only take off 5g of the lowest price listed.

Make sure that you list your item as buy only. This is because people can easily obtain a store item for a little more at the store, than waiting for your dumb auction to end. Personally, in my expierence with my vending license, if your item is marked for buy only, it sells more, and faster.

Now - working hard.

Open up a shop in the minishops area if you have time(which you don't- this is moreso for other people reading this thread).

I opened up an avatar editing shop. At the time, I was the best on the market, I could change poses, clothes, everything save animate.
It got to where I was selling one avatar edit for about 5k.

Now, this truly depends on your talent and what your selling. If it's good, then you will get good money. If it's bad, then there won't be much demand.

When you open your shop, make prices incredibly low, and when it gets enough demand, slowly work your prices upward. That's what I did, and I was getting in around 8k a day.

Now, mini shops need work. You have to keep up with it, or your customers will get bitchy. The work for me was too much. I quit after about two or so months. Never looked back.

At the time, I had no idea how to manage gold, so I bought what I wanted when I wanted, assuming I'd get more from my shop.
That's one of the resons I'm poor now. sweatdrop

So anyway, that's basically most of what I've learned and my advice...

Hope it helps some of you guys. ^_^

The problem with opening a shop is that you must have some sort of Gaian-marketable skill. Not everyone is a photoshop genuis.

Well, I hope you know what "Bump" means...

Basically, a bump service is where you get people of big threads, like, minishops, lotteries, etc, to pay you for bumping their thread.

Usually a price is like 10g per bump, and you work out a system where you're supposed to bump however many times.

The bumps add up. You get money, the thread creator's thread is at the top of the page while s/he's offline, win-win situation.

Ah, okay. That strikes me as a little sheisty for some reason.

I think you all are taking this a little too far for a game...

So hold on to those items. The prices have already skyrocketed to - what I saw - around 10k each.

Actually, if that's the case they've dropped. Bloody zombie costumes were selling at 15k during the event. I'm hoping we'll see appreciation soon, though. I hope. I invested 100k in that, hoping to make at least 150% returns.

[Q]
And the event just ended yesterday. Although, you only have 2 of each labcoat, and I don't know how many shirts, so that will probably hinder you.

Only if I don't hold out long enough, but I didn't want to take too large a risk.

What's the point of being rich if you can't spend lavishly? wink

[Q]

I have quite a bit more than that. But I keep all my clothing. I don't sell off store items because I lose minute but ever-increasing amounts every time I wear something and discard it.

[Q]
You also, to my knowledge at least, don't have a vending license.

I do.

[Q]
The thing for you is that you have the pleasure of being rich right now, so you have money to fall back on for anything.

Well, I'm only rich because I buy and sell rare items, but I'm having to hold items for a longer and longer period to get profitable returns. That was my concern.

[Q]
Make sure that you list your item as buy only. This is because people can easily obtain a store item for a little more at the store, than waiting for your dumb auction to end. Personally, in my expierence with my vending license, if your item is marked for buy only, it sells more, and faster.

This is only true if you aren't selling a rare. Remember, when I sell an item, it's usually in the range of 100k to 300k gold. Generally, few people sell or buy such items, and if I place an item on buy only, I'll get less money than if I allow competitive buyers to fight over it. I managed to sell a scarf recently for 160k, far over its market price of 120k, because I placed it in auction for 2 weeks and lots of people got to see it and compete over it.

[Q]
Hope it helps some of you guys. ^_^

It does help! At least in the case of selling some of the low-end, renewable rares I have. I'll try some of them out.

(I can't believe you didn't think I had a vending license? Did you think I just poofed my gold out of thin air? Geebus.)

Not complaining. Analyzing. Not blessed. Opportunistic. This is a laissez-faire capitalist system my friend. We don't complain about problems, we note them and seek to correct our positions within them. I see my position slowly declining, and I have no desire to lose my standing as one of the top 50 most wealthy Gaians. Diversification, my friends. That's what it's all about.

True. I hoped the vials would help, but I lost out in that venture, and the labcoat venture is not looking good. At least on the short term. I'm holding on to those, though. Hopefully they don't get sold at the shops, or I'll be very upset. Unlimited supply at state-directed prices is the worse thing that can happen to people like me. crying

THIS IS A GAME! YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO ANALYZE! YOU can't HONESTLY apply Real Life lifestyles, policies, forums, etc, to a GAME. It takes out the fun. It makes it boring and pointless.

Gaia was developed for people who liked anime/manga, and to give them a chance to live in a world like that. NOT to analyze how the Gaian Staff allow us to buy donation letters from people that donate to Gaia to keep it running. Our point on being here is to *have fun*. Not become political/financial analysts, and confusing the majority of Gaia with matters that aren't even theirs to understand, let alone vote on.

I think everyone's taking things a little far...

I think you need to get out of this thread. Start one on fashion or something. Let us enjoy our game the way we like.
