So I just wrote this up a second ago for another guild. They're holding a contest. IT HAD TO BE UNDER A PAGE. D:

Well, anyway, I liked what I wrote, so here's something new I am actually looking forward to writing. (:

Suddenly

Shadows drifting across my eyes, I feel the need to die.

But I don’t. I lean over the side of the bed and throw up.

“Hey.”

Aelekia, I hate being pregnant.

“You all right?” My good eye focuses in on the man standing over me.

“What do you think?” I reply hoarsely, glaring at him with all the tenacity of a pregnant 20-something who is too weak to do anything but vomit.

“Honestly, I think you’re in a lot of trouble.” He shrugged and leaned against the wall. “But hey, I’m just the one who found you while you were slouched along the road while no one else would pay attention.”

I fixed another angry stare at him, broken only when I felt myself throwing up again.

“Hey, watch the floor.” He pushed the bucket closer to me. I would’ve considered this nice, except for the fact that he used the toe of his boot to push it.

“What do you want with me?” I ask, my voice barely above a whisper.

“I’m merely here to make sure that someone takes care of you.” He noticed the skepticism on my face, and added, “Not me, of course. Where’s the man who got you like this?”

I fear this was the last straw. I broke down. Started crying. Full-fledged sobs. Everything.

“Look, I’m sorry,” he said awkwardly. I wave him off, unready for contact.

“I’m fine, really I am,” I sniffed, wiping my nose. “It’s just been a long…time.”

He frowned. “Who are you?”

The words stirred something, something of a memory. Just a flash of something. And then back again. “I am a priestess of Aelekia. I am the goddess you pray to at night before you sleep. I am the reason why you live, and the reason why you die. I am the hope and the salvation, the everlasting woman.” Thought I had forgotten that.

He stared at me. “Who are you?” he asked again.

I smiled wearily. “I’m Beka.”

He returned my smile. “I’m Jaysen. It’s nice to meet you.”

“Well met.” I glance uncomfortably around the room. “Is there anyway I can get out of this bed?”

“No.” He shook his head and sighed. “The doctor says you’re in enough trouble with what you’ve gone through. He says he’s coming back later tomorrow, to examine you while you’re awake.”

I frown. “Why do you care?”

He thought for a moment. “I was trying to become more of a good person. I also told myself that if you ended up being a nice person, I’d take you along with me.”

“Where?”

He shrugged. “Out of the country.”

My jaw nearly dropped. “I’ll go with you.”

“So quickly?”

“Anything to get out of here.”

“Very well. We’ll leave when you’re better.”

I’m quiet for a moment.

“Rethinking already? You need only wait until tomorrow. We can finalize this then.”

“Tomorrow?! I can’t wait that long!” And thus, he was subjected once more to the mood swings of a pregnant 20-something.

I cut a lot of it down to meet the page limit. I'm actually looking forward to writing this, so I'll post something new soon.

PS. Yeah, Aelekia is the name of one of the goddesses in the Atlantis storyline. rolleyes I was in a hurry.
