Thina woke and rubbed her eyes open. Her right hand felt rough on her scars; she was used to it so it hardly even registered. The woman stared at the ceiling for a little while, some of the scattered memories coming back to her. Her stomach growled, a reminder that she had stayed in this room for too long. She didn't know what was out there, so was reluctant to leave this place, where she knew she was, well... safe, maybe.
Her hunger won out. It wasn't as bad as before, supplemented by the pitcher of water, but it was time she leaved.
Thina walked to the door where she had left her shoes. Leaning over, she balanced precariously as she buttoned them up. She wasn't fully dressed, she only had the full-length underdress and the apron on. Her hair pooled down her back, unrestricted from the scarf she owned.
Where was she? Those were the first thoughts out of her mind as she stood outside her door and looked at the trees. They looked nothing like Epirus, nothing like home. She wasn't scared, per say, just confused.
Thina walked out, and looked around. Did they have a taverna? Anything where she might find some food? She started to walk, and found herself skirting the homes, at least she thought they were homes. they were on her left, and the trees on her right. The woman figured that a taverna would be by the buildings if there was one. This place was so modern -especially more than home-, surely they someplace for food.

The komodo, satisfied by it's own hunting trudges along the well worn path that led back into the village from the jungle. Her yellow tongue flickering as she emerges from the foliage content from teh warm the sun provided now and the shade the jungle gave during her hunt. It was not until she had nearly fully emerged from the foliage she noticed the presense of another and she comes to a halt her eyes taking in the non-changed form of another... Oh great... she sure hoped they had gotten the lowdown on the isle already

Thina heard a noise, and swung around to find the source. Her dark eyes widened, her scarred side more stiffly than the other. What she saw there was.... something... a monster! She was pretty old, experienced in her own right, but many animals were not known to the backwater Greeks of Epirus. Whatever this was.... was definately not something she'd seen before. The woman choked in her throat in fear, and took one step back.
She stopped, and then stood her ground, balancing on her heels ready to run if the time called for it. What did those Americans tell her that one day? If you see anything scary, the last thing you should do is run. You should stand your ground and then slowly back away. But, Greeks weren't cowards. Thousands of years of fighting had hardened her resolve.
So, Thina stood straight, watching the creature, and not meeting the eyes. She had heard that too, don't look directly in their eyes.

"Merde d'Oh" the very quiet words slipped from Joli's mouth as she stayed exactly where she was. The woman didn't know... or at least knew but hadn't accepted... Joliette didn't know which. Her tongue flickers and she waited for what she was sure was going to be a bad reaction to her appearance. She could sense the woman's fear and hated feeling the tension

Thina watched. She chewed her bottom lip in indecision. Should she move? Or just stay there? Maybe it would get bored with her and move on? The woman though she heard something in the air, but it was faint. She dismissed it without another thought.
"Iremo... Iremo...." Thina said the Greek words as she held out her hands non-threateningly. Out of the corner of her eyes, she tried to see if there was something she could do; something that would make up her mind for her.

"I speak French and English... not.. whatever language that is" she says quietly, but not so quietly she wouldn't be heard by the woman. She sounds a touch.... sad and wary of the situation as she lifts her head a bit and looks the woman over more from head to toe.

"You SPEAK!?" Thina squeaked; she did know French as well, but decided to respond in English.. How was that possible? Could animals speak? She wracked her mind, trying to think of the possibilities. As far as she knew, the Bible didn't say anything about talking animals -but she couldn't read, so she only knew what the priests and others told her.
Her mind still reeling, Thina tried to think of something else. "Am I dead?" She'd understand if she was, thought this was not what she thought Heaven was like... or even Hell.

"Yes I speak... just like every other person on this isle" her voice held a thick British accent to it as it left her lips. "And no you aren't dead... though one day you may think you are... this place is like a hell we are all stuck in" Joliette moves the rest of hte way out of the foliage ignoring what remained of her hair as it shifted.

Maybe if Thina knew what this.... thing was, the hair would have thrown her off. Her mind was still a little muddled and she wasn't completely the best at English, so it took awhile for the words to register. Brows furrowed, the woman didn't like the words. Nevermind the monster spoke! "Isle? Island? Are we one Circe's....?" Her voice trailed. Of course she knew the stories, but it was from her gypsy blood, not the Greekness of it. One thing didn't fit, if this was Circe's home... the creatures still couldn't talk.
But wait, she monster said Hell? Island? Hell? Where was she?
The woman still watched the speaking creature, "Are you going to eat me?" she said quietly. That was probably the big question at the moment.

She was silent a moment "I may look like a monster... but I'm not a monster... I have no desire to eat you... besides I already ate" now her voice just sounded down right depressed as she looked at the ground most of her just wanting to hide right then and there. She knew this day would come, and she would not be accepted as herself anymore

Thina still didn't trust this... thing. While she heard the depressed note, she still watched with a wary gaze. Her eyes narrowed. She was glad the creature had eaten. "Not a monster? What are you?" Thina took a step back, just in case.

Thina stared more, and swayed on her feet. Impossible! If she didn't know any better, she would say this... komodo?... was sad. Well, there was nothing she could do about it. She lifted her hand, and looked at it; it was still a hand, she was still human.
"Signomi ((I'm sorry)), I cannot help with your... anthropitia ((humanity... tried for human-ness)). Where is a taverna? Er," Thina tried to correct, "Restaurant? Food? Cafeteria?" Whatever the creature said, she didn't believe it. Besides the gods of Olympus, who either didn't exist or refused to show themselves now, no one could turn humans into animals.... well, Circe could, but she was... something else.
Thina wasn't comfortable around this 'komodo'. She would stay longer, except her stomach started grumbling again with hunger.

"Cafeteria?" yeah food, would make sense this person wanted to escape to that. "In the big building that way" she tips her head towards the building All sorts of stuff in there" Joliette moves away for the most part from the woman

Thina looked where the komodo nodded its head. She gave her a look from the corner of her right eye. The scarring usually unnerved people. While she didn't trust this creature, as far as she knew this it may be the only other sentient thing for it. "Do you.... come with?" With her hunger, her English words were shorter than she was capable of.
