Comet Serpents:Once upon a time, deep in the small oasis where the Stardust Facility was built, Professor Feline was sitting outside the living complex on her yellow lawn chair, sipping her coffee from her favorite coffee mug. It was a beautiful night, and the stars above seemed to glitter like the ring on a newlywed's finger. With a sigh, Feline took another sip, carefully watching a star that seemed to glow gold. It wasn't a star. From her own experience, she recognized the object as a falling pile of Stardust, even in the dark. "Hm...? Ooh, I should catch that..!" she murmured, and stood up, positioned herself beneath it, and held her hands out. She didn't realize she still had the coffee mug in her hand. Plop, went the stardust. ~~~Fast forward a couple weeks Professor Feline had been studying the dust that had fallen into her mug carefully for weeks. Frighteningly enough, a Dustling Dragon did not emerge from the mug. Instead, a serpent-like creature with four ears sprouted from the mug, and it had a featherfurless coat and a forked tongue. Eventually it grew, and grew, and Feline was almost frightened at the huge monster that the thing finally became. She wasn't sure if it was a new type of dust she found, or if coffee somehow altered its DNA. But the dust sure made her coffee taste worse.

Star Foxes:
Despite the continued lack of new discoveries inside the Stardust Facility, Professor Feline had not given up on her search for new breeds of dustling dragons-- especially not after the dustpan with the mist surrounding it! That discovery had piqued her interest and renewed her spirits.
She spent her nights outside in the warm, dry air with her telescope, watching the stars and plants for any signs of change. Occasionally she'd be attacked by a falling pile of dust, but other than that, nothing would happen for days on end.
Until one night, when Feline had nearly turned in, she caught sight of something bright and blinking in the sky. Her hopes were dashed when she realized it was an airplane passing by, and she turned to leave-- but wait a second! Airplanes never flew over such a deserted oasis. She pulled her telescope back out and looked up in time to see a bright light whisking towards the Facility area.
With a gasp she was running around in circles frantically, incoherently shouting and mumbling at the same time.
And then the bright little ball conked Feline on the head.
Hours later, a small nudge awakened her. Dawn was already creeping up behind the mountains. Vestakia was chirruping in hunger. "Oh.. alright, girl.. breakfast, yeah.."
And when the memory of the night before finally hit her, her eyes bugged a little and she began sifting through the sand madly. "Where is it?!"
Apparently, a very, VERY small star or even a chunk of meteorite (she had no idea just yet) had entered their atmosphere and, for some reason, was also attracted to the oasis area like stardust was. This intrigued her, so, holding her bruised noggin, she scuttled back to her lab and placed the bright little burnt-out star into a tentative glass jar and, feeling silly, labelled the bottle "falling star".
...Not even a week later, a small furry .. thing.. popped its head out of the jar and gave an ear-splitting cry of fear, confusion, and hunger. Mostly hunger. Not a good thing to wake up to, and Vestakia agreed whole-heartedly. But still, Feline was ecstatic to see a new type of creature coming into the Facility. So many tests to perform!
And, after another week, the creature was finally coaxed out of its bottle. It was still rather fuzzy and young, and Feline had a feeling it would grow into quite a beautiful little thing. Vestakia was jealous all over again.
"I'll name him Zureas," Feline told herself, and smiled.

Nebula Cats:Tucked away in a corner of Wolf's new home, the lab, lay a very secret specimen. A tiny cloud that the new resident had found whirled upon a stick lay on a desk, little tag of 'Nebula Cloud' protruding from an uncovered end. Wolf had found, with Feline's old instruments, that the little puff had a makeup similar to that of the dusts that gathered in the desert. She supposed that it contained life, and that alone made the little thing worth keeping. Weeks later, the struggling 'professor', if she could be called that, noted a change in the swirling, sparkling cloud. A tiny feline head and tail stuck out, surprising Glacial quite thoroughly. A new species entirely! Thousands of tiny notes about the minuscule, frail looking creature were scribbled on that first day. The professor noted that sometimes the little kitten would wander from the safety of its still swirling cloud, but never far. Still Wolf watched, and said nothing to the people of the town. In the silence of the lab it wasn't long until the little kitten grew larger, and the tiny nebula disappeared completely. However a swirling tail, and tufts above the little male's ears marked his heritage from a little cloud. The little thing behaved much like a normal cat within the household, though it was separated from Wolf's other pets for fear they might cause him harm. Soon he was fully grown, and Wolf, supposing it was safe to name the fully grown male now that he was almost as large as a dragon and capable of taking care of himself, dubbed him Xerxes. It followed a noble line of naming tradition among her pets. The cat himself, if he could be called that, was the first of his species. Wolf imagined that it wouldn't be long before more of the little puffs of cloud would be found along the ground, clinging to blades of grass, low tree branches, anything to keep from being whisked off.

# Breeding Report - Dustlings: Rewritten by Feline, mostly created by Krissie and maskedquerade Breeding is a very graceful thing with the Dustling Dragons. The male begins by forming a pile of different sands from all over, the farther the better. This seems to affect the production rate of successful offspring. More foreign sand, more healthy babies. After the floor of their mating area is covered in at least one inch of sand, the two Dustlings intimately groom each other, picking select pieces of featherfur off of each other and patting them into the sand. This process may take up to a couple hours.
The evidence of a mating could probably be left over dust that didn't form into the dust piles and possibly a few bits of hair or a feather or two that didn't turn into dust. Once the piles of dust and featherfur are constructed by the parents and.. well.. fertilized, the parents leave the area to enjoy their last night as free Dustlings, not weighed down yet by parenthood.
Lab assistants such as I then go in with our specially-designed handshovels and collect each dust. The ones that appear to have life are marked with a small sign labelled merely "Star Dust".

# Breeding Report - Serpents: Written by Feline Comet Serpents' mating procedures are much more complex than Dustling Dragons' due to the fact that they not only have to make a fertile pile of sand, but also dump it into a liquid. The mating process begins with two diligent adults. They usually breed along a lake, but beware-- if they breed in your home, chances are you'll be left with a room full of sand, serpent skin, and no soda left in your fridge(which, coincidentally, will probably be knocked over and ransacked). Comet Serpents will first either find a naturally sand-covered area or make one themselves. It usually takes place at night, in the darkness, but due to their cat-like vision they can still see perfectly.
Next, the sand is mixed with a liquid (either water from the lake or whatever they pull from your kitchen) and then the wet sand is mixed with bits of long fur from their manes. They groom each other with their beaks mostly, the claws are usually folded back like wings as their smooth bodies intertwine. The wrapping around each other part is almost always just to keep each other going-- they're cold-blooded, and it's usually cold at night on the oasis. The piles of wet sand are then fertilized, and-- this is crucial-- the owners of the mated serpents must then bring the sand to me for the mug and some extra liquid. If the sand pile dries, the baby inside dies.
Stardust piles and sandpiles are the same in the sense that if a sandpile is imbibed with particles of the dustling or serpent, it will still act as though it came from the heavens and shelter the offspring.

# Breeding Report - Hybrids: Written by Feline After trying unsuccessfully for many moons to get a dustling dragon and a comet serpent to mate, I've come to the conclusion that human intervention is required. It may seem wrong to force two species to give birth to a mutant child, but I just could help myself! It takes a swift, painless injection into both the dustling and serpent parents to make the two mate, and then, curiously enough, they require a specific type of cup and liquid to have offspring. The two never get quite intimate during breeding, but that's due to the forced nature of it. A special syringe is needed to breed a serpent and a dustling together.
