The night stars shone brightly in the blackened sky. A cool breeze blew across the meadow and towards a mare standing silently on a hill. To her, the night seemed different as if there was something bound her way. She was not afraid, just a bit curious. The soothing surroundings were in wait for something spetacular, but to what it was...Nalani did not know. Her friends, the butterflies, fluttered back and forth excitedly. They too knew of something she didn't not know and it was making her anxious to find out. "What is it that you all are waiting for?" She asked softly as if they would understand.

It was a surprisingly quaint and peaceful land in comparison to what he was so used to guarding. The rolling hills and gentle meadows, well...The grass seemed to shiver delightedly against the wind as it stroked at each strand. Everything was so incredibly exotic and every new discovery equally as tantalising as the last.

However, as the wind soquili thrust his way through the air, his broad wing span locking so that he could glide upon the currents. He couldn't help but look down upon the meadows thoughtfully - out of all the places in the Kawani lands, the meadows were not somewhere he had visited... He abhorred open areas.

Still, he had been in the air for a considerable amount of time and as the wind became colder he was all too aware of his necessity to locate some warmth. Where there was long grass, there was always warmth.

Right?

Disregarding his own indecisiveness (something he frowned upon) he began to descend from the upper regions of the night sky. He swooped down at a considerable speed at first, his almost glowing form streaking through the air in a comet-like fashion and then, with a grace his mother would have been proud of, he slowed down with a swift 'thump' of his wings; hovered briefly above the tips of the grass and then descended with only the faintest ruffle into them.

And he was right, it was warm...

Swinging her tail to the side impatiently, the wondering mare watched as her tiny friends disappeared into the tall grass. She tilted her head in a bit of confusion at their odd behavior. This night is really like no other, I hope whatever is coming will not be dangerous. I will have to flee if it is so. Her ears flickered back and forth as a sound was caught in the distance. Nalani tried to listen closer, but the wind picked up making it hard for her to hear anything. Well, that's just great, I can't hear a thing.

The butterfly mare shook her head in annoyance, sending her wavy mane to the right side so she could possibly see without having it covering her vision. If I can't hear anything, I might as well look around for whatever made the sound. She briefly scanned the meadow and then the sky. Something in the clear night sky caught her attention. It seemed as if a huge flame was thrown across the sky. What in heaven's name is that? Squinting her eyes for a better view, she made out what seemed to be...a stallion?!

Bewildered by the sight, the mare lowered herself into the grass being cautious, it was better this way since she did not know if the stranger was friend or foe.

It was rather ironic when he thought about it. On the mountainsides, where the snow caps never melted, he positively radiated with heat and was often described as a ball of fire. Whereas now, he shivered in a rather superb fashion and gave a brutal shake of his body to rid himself of the chill he'd experienced during flight - by the gods, he wasn't entirely sure why he had changed so suddenly.

Too much on his mind perhaps.

Nevertheless, as he shifted his weight and slipped round to nudged one of his plumes away from his hindquarters, he couldn't cast aside that peculiar tingling in his mane. He was being watched. He was certain of it and would wager his wings upon that bet!

Still, choosing not to swing round in what might have been translated as a mad state of panic, he simply unfurled his wings to stretch out the kinks and released a sigh.

"I know," He began in gentle tones, yet loud enough to be received. "I know, that you are there."

An oddly handsome stallion the stranger was. She couldn't figure out what he was supposed to be. His coloring was truly exotic and very bright, as bright as the sun itself. Nalani inched her way closer and quietly, not wanting to let him know she was there. His lovely appearance pulled her in even closer. She wanted to get to know him, but didn't know whether it was safe to do so. Suddenly he spread his amazing wings and the mare watched in awe as it lighted up the darkness around him.

Nalani's heart skipped a beat as she heard him say that he knew she was there. Not knowing whether to run or go up and talk to him, she stood her ground and didn't show her face. The mare wanted to speak, but she held her silence.

And thus, the quiet rustling came to a surprisingly swift halt. His ears twitched briefly at this, unaccustomed to the silence that followed immediately after. Silence, he really should have grown used to it by now, having been informed of his duties but he still couldn't quite shake off his desire to return to the lively herd...even at night they were rowdy.

Nevertheless, he did release a chuckle as he became aware of the individuals insistance on remaining in the area. He supposed he had intruded on their territory and mustering a little of the stength within him, he steeled himself for a potential 'onslaught' from those he claimed he was an intruder.

It was in jest though, he knew there was only one...

With a hint of a smile on his lips, the stallion folded his wings once more and very calmly turned round. He was not one for sudden movements unless required to perform them in the heat of battle and besides; slow and steady caused less creatures to startle and bolt - which was a good thing, as most enjoyed barrelling headlong into him.

Admittedly, he had been expecting a foal of some sort of perhaps a raccoon but as he swung round and his eyes became accustomed to the dim light provided by the moon, he found himself before a mare. He fought the urge to lift a brow and instead, ensured his expression remained stoic. Did she had butterfly wings? He had seen horns and peculiar tails before but butterflies were definately something he had never experienced before.

"Greetings." He murmured at last, using the same soft tones as before while the striking emerald eyes he possessed continued to skim along her form critically. He would deny insulting her appearance, but he would not deny any attempts to discern if she had a weakness either - female or no, a stallion had to be prepared.

Gah! Nalani thought in her head. I should've hid in the taller grass. She had no choice but to face the stallion. Slowly, the mare stood and looked at the ground, ashamed of her previous actions. Never before had she done anything like that. Her mother would be surprised to know this. Taking in a deep breath to relax her nerves, she lifted her head to look straight at the stallion before her.

"Greetings to you as well." Once again she found herself staring at this spectacular wind soquili. His glistening eyes hypnotized her. She found herself wondering if he thought she was an annoyance.

"I hope I did not disturb you in anyway...I was just a bit curiously. Never have I seen one like yourself in this part of the land, but I must say you have a beautiful coloring." Nalani stomped softly waiting for his answer and hoping he was not offended by her in any way.

"Thank you." Grencia received the and accepted the compliment with the same amount of grace that he had harboured during his landing. He was not overly modest as to deny a compliment, to him, such things were terribly rude to do so. Even so, the hint of a smile on his equine lips deepened somewhat as though he appreciated the compliment more than he would prefer to let on - one had to take compliments when they could, especially when his previous meeting with a mare had resulted in nothing more than insults and disgust.

"I must confess that this is my first week within the lands of the Kawani, my herd dwell beyond the mountains." He explained dutifully and with a small flourish, he unfurled his wings once more to form a wide arc and gave a bow - his whiskers brushing against his brow in the process.

"They call me Grencia." He added after a few moments, lifting his gaze one more as he gave another flex of his wings and once again folded them back into place, where they snugly warmed his body in a silent embrace.

"And you are...?"

Smiling, the mare replied, "It's a pleasure meeting you, Grencia." Glad that the stallion was friendly, she gave a bow politely. "I am the mare, Nalani. Others also know me as the butterfly mare." Her eyes traveled over him once again. "I don't want to offend you or anything, but...what are you? You are truly different than all the others I have met." His body shimmered in the darkness and his brightly colored wings captivated her. He sure was a remarkable stud.

She was curious about his herd and wondered why he has gone far from them. "If it isn't a problem, may I ask why you have separated from your herd?" Nalani didn't want to upset him in anyway, she would like to become friends with this interesting stranger.

What was he?

Grencia took a few moments to unfurl his wings and inspected them quietly. For a while, he seemed uncertain of exactly how to reply but it wasn't long before he returned his gaze to the mare's face once more and released a deep, soft chuckle.

"I am nothing more than a Wind Soquili, I assure you of that much." He replied at last, flicking his ears forward as he folded his wings back into place. "A little over decorated, but still the very same as my other avian counterparts." He added after a slight afterthought. Although, his brow did furrow considerably at the mention of his herd and he shook his head, she hadn't presented him with a problem.

"As for my herd, they sent me to these lands in order to locate a certain stallion...He is a grave threat to us." He explained, failing to elaborate further, her curiosity may have been satiated by that much and he felt no need to go further.

She chuckled at his reply to her question, "You aren't over decorated, just very unique. I'm sure the others wouldn't mind having another wind soquili around." Her ears perked forward as he mentioned the reason on why he was in these parts of the land. She had the urge to ask for more, but decided to hold her tongue in fear of becoming a nusence to the soft spoken stallion.

"There are many stallions roaming these lands and might take a while for you to find the one you are searching for." Thinking about how to help the young stud, she offered herself, "Maybe I can be of service in your search for him, that is if you don't mind. I've traveled all over this place many times. I know every cave, stream, forest, hill here. You name it and I'll show you." Being the adventurous mare she was, Nalani became familiar with every little thing on this land since she was a foal.

"I will understand if you would like to be alone on your mission. I wouldn't want to be a burden and slow you down." The mare smiled kindly and wrapped her tail around her leg as she waited for his reply.

"The offer is much appreciated." Grencia offered a sheepish smile and flicked his gaze towards her tail as it coiled around her hind leg. All in all, the movement was a rather peculiar one but he had seen many strange things in his life - likewise, he had learnt to refrain from questioning them for the majority of the time.

"However, this stallion is 'unique' like myself. I will hear him before I see him." He explained and shook his head, flicking a disapproving look towards the whiskers that continued to tickle at his brow. "But if you should find a soquili with large horns with golden rings adorning him, I would be much obliged if you told me where." He added, canting his head to the side thoughtfully.

"You have not seen such a being, I trust?"

Large horns? Adorning gold rings?

This things seemed familiar to Nalani, but she couldn't make out who it reminded her off. "I'm not sure. Perhaps I've seen him before, but my memory fails me. Maybe some of my friends might be able to help me. Or I can ask my mother whenever I see her again. She knows everyone in the land. Does this stallion have a name?"

The image stuck to her mind, but hard as she tried to remember, the mare could find no one she knew that fit the description of the stallion Grencia was searching for.

Grencia sincerely doubted that her mother was aware of every soquili in the land but he refrained from commenting. Instead, he simply offered a smile to humour her and gave a small nod. Perhaps her mother didn't know everyone, but there was a chance that she may have caught sight of him at one point or another - the same went for her friends.

"He is known as Emperor Paramekia, from my lands." He replied at last, his tone matter-of-fact as he shifted his weight. "I suppose another feature would be that he wears the most unusual cloth about him - and has the palest skin." He continued, although at the mention of his skin an image flashed into the fire-stallions mind and he seemed to visibly flinch.

"If your friends have seen him, that would be a help." He offered finally, his brow furrowing somewhat.

A clear picture came into her mind. "Um...he wouldn't be wearing a headdress by any chance? These rings you speak of...are they on his head? If so, then yes...I have seen him before. Once or twice, but I doubt I can help you find him. All I know is that he wanders across the land from time to time and only a few have gotten close to him or seen him. I for one have never spoken to him." Nalani wondered who she could get in contact with who has been near this so called dangerous stallion. "I hope I have been able to help at least a little bit."
