[[Private Roleplay between Catacus ((Noyama)) and Venom ((Paramekia)), please do not post without consulting the roleplayers.]]

There was something in the way she had smiled. The twinkle in her eye, the chime of her laughter and yet in nothing more than a second, she had fled. He had never stood a chance, it was something that this individual had grown used to since birth but that did not make it any easier to contend with. Well aware of what he was, his pride and arrogance could not entirely conceal the irritation at the manner in which most deemed it suitable to treat him.

He released a snort, perhaps in an attempt to disregard his own thoughts but the point was moot. He had his moments, those within the immediate vicinity should consider themselves lucky that he was in such a subdued and controlled state for he was nothing short of a hellion when he lost his temper.

...Not only that, but attempting to predict his moodswings was nigh on impossible.

"Mmmph." He expressed himself so eloquently, it was a field he simply excelled in. Not.

Nevertheless, he gave himself little time to even attempt another sentence as the putrid smell of dried blood crept up to his nostrils and he flicked his gaze towards the mutilated corpse of the mare that had seen fit to intrude upon his solitude. More fool her for shrieking and attempting to escape immediately following the intrusion as well, it had only served to encourage him afterall...She had only lasted a few seconds.

At this thought, he purposefully bore his fanged and carnivorous teeth towards the now fallen female, if anything, her body would prove as a warning to others. If it didn't attract scavengers first, at least.

He was not lost.

Not lost. Notnotnotnot lost. Just because you didn't know where you were didn't make you lost, you know? He wandered why he didn't have some sort of instinct that should be kicking in right about now and would magically lead him back to his human caretaker. Horses had instincts like that, right? ...Right?

One would think, being one, he would know. Perhaps, he reasoned, he really had been too pampered up until this point. Things certainly were changing.

When the mentioned human, a young girl, had come to him that morning he'd expected the usual. Saddle on back, girl on saddle, then she'd force him to trot or gallop around for a while and go on her way. Today, she'd just hauled herself onto his bare back! It had amazed him, and more than that, it had scared him.

Catacus was sort of a contradiction. He was, by nature, extremely curious, to the point of often times seeming stupid. But then, he didn't like change, and he was not curious as to what a future would hold if it involved such a thing. The trip here had shaken him, not that he'd admit it. The backlash caused even the simpliest things, ones just slightly out-of-the-ordinary, to shake him as well.

For the first time since he could remember, he'd bucked. Bucked, and ran, too confused to think of much else. Why was she doing this to him? Why was she suddenly treating him like they treated the horses here? He didn't want that! She had to take care of him!

The thoughts flowed rapidly through his mind like water down a river, and only once the scent of blood was oh-so-strong did he take notice of it, stopping and blowing loudly out his nose.

What in the world...?

His ears flicked forward at the crackle of twigs and the rustle of foliage. His eyes narrowed, yet containing the slight 'glitter' of curiosity that could have been mistaken for something more deadly - unlike most though, he elected to hold his tongue. His silence was not to insure his security for he was not one who feared an opponent...in all honesty he rather liked fighting, the taste of the blood upon his serpent like tongue was terribly delightful.

...And the succulent meat of a felled beast.

I wonder. The thoughts of yet another encounter flickered into his mind and subconciously, his tongue slipped out to trace along the edges of his thin, equine lips. If anything, this encounter may prove beneficial to him - perhaps not on an intellectual level but he was always up for a little sport.

However, still silent, he simply fixed his gaze on the point at which the sound had originated and considered his options. He could wait here, or he could go to meet his potential prey...

If someone was seeking out another based on 'intellectual level', they'd be better hunting down a foal--or maybe even a rock--as opposed to Catacus. It wasn't that he was completely stupid.

--Correction. It wasn't that he was completely stupid back home, where he was cared for and could prance around for just a short time before being cared for again. But here? Dense, slow, foolish. These were only a few names he'd been called, and they were basically true. It had been months since his arrival here, and he still didn't understand. He didn't understand why that foal he'd met had something tangled in his mane--a weaver or some such? He didn't under why the the horses here needed wings. Only birds should fly, right?

None of that, not even put together, compared with the sight of...of... He wasn't even sure what that was. His ears jerked back, as did his entire body, hooves loudly cracking twigs and crunching small rocks. The sight of the mare (or what was left of one) prompted his eyes to widen in alarm. Slowly, very slowly, they gazed back at the beast. Was this normal here, too?! What was wrong with this place?!

"H-Hi," he offered lamely.

This would teach him not to buck.

Well that hadn't been the reaction he had been anticipating. Venom had grown rather accustomed to the shrieks of horror and the looks of disgust. He had rather grown used to creatures bolting at the sight of him, or rather at the mess he tended to leave behind him. He was not the tidiest of individuals to say the least, he would leave a place in tatters more frequently than not and casualties were not a concern.

Similarly - he'd always found the blood coated trees to look rather exotic and inviting.

"Hm." His eyes narrowed to mere slits and he observed the male for a brief time. Unlike the female (who had screamed) he had caused the rush of adrenaline the kalona had been expecting and thus...he simply released a rather beastial grunt.

"Good afternoon." He responded silkily, seemingly 'unaware' of the dead mare's presence.

O-Okay, it talks, Catacus thought, even the voice in his head quivering.

One should not think him some brave stallion. He was just a scared, human-trained little horse. Aside from today, the last thing he'd been afraid enough of to dash from was a man. A man who had caught him and given him far more than few good smacks as punishment.

He didn't think his current owner would do the same thing, when he actually stopped to think about it. The problem was, he didn't stop to think about it. Running meant pain if what you ran from caught you, and in this situation, it seemed to mean even worse. That was basically what he was thinking.

Still, there was that curiousity. Yes, the kind that made him do many stupid things. Such as ask questions better left unsaid.

"Why..did you..?"

"Why did I -" Venom paused briefly and flicked his empty gaze towards the corpse, if anything, he seemed completely unphased by it...even the putrid smell had yet to turn him away. "What?" He continued, obviously toying with the stallion as though he thought the question silly - was the little colt enquiring as to why he had dispatched of the female, or was it something else that he wanted to know?

As of yet, the stallion hadn't fled and this (although he didn't admit it) was a rather impressive thing indeed. One would have assumed that by now the beast would have squealed and darted away from the scene, but either this stallion had more courage than Venom gave him credit for, or he was just completely and utterly stupid.

"You must elaborate, if you wish an answer." He murmured coolly.

"You know what I'm asking!" Catacus cried out loudly. It was probably the dumbest move he'd made so far (second only to not literally moving) to yell at something like this. His stance, expression, everything about him displayed anger. In reality, he was panicing. His stomach did flip flops and more voices than he knew were there were yelling in his head.

"I want to know why you killed her! There's no way that's normal here! It's not, is it?"

If it was, he wanted to go home more than ever.

A dark smile flickered to the lips of the Kalona and with a hollow chuckle he simply shook his head. Admittedly, the pursuit of this female had proved to be a great deal of fun but this stallion was giving him so much more! Had he been human, he suspected he could have sliced through the air with a knife - the fear weighing so heavily upon the unfortunate being before him.

And that cry. The kalona positively shivered with delight and anticipation at the stallion, if this was what he was like before pain, then one could only begin to imagine what it was like DURING it.

"Oh, well...I do not know." Venom gave a lose shrug as he nudged the dead being with a cloven hoof, "Normality depends entirely on the person you speak with -" He pointed out sagely, raising a brow before releasing yet another of his hollow laughs.

"But as to why... Well." The sadistic gleam appeared in his eyes yet again and a small, 'haphazard' smile developed. "She should not have run."
PostPosted: Fri Jan 26, 2007 6:27 pm

Catacus decided it didn't matter if it was normal or not. It was wrong. Usually, he wasn't one to decide such things, to point fingers of acusation, but this time he would. This was wrong.

"You can't DO that!" he huffed. Immediatly after he wandered mentally where the courage to say that had came from. This thing was going to kill him, wasn't it? Well, if he was going to die anyway he might as well get it all out.

"You can't just... You can't go killing things whenever you feel like it! Especially not just because they run! What if she has a foal or a mother worrying for her somewhere?!"

"Then she should not have run." Venom repeated, clearly unable to grasp the concept that Catacus was attempting to put forward. "To shriek at ones person and then to bolt is a challenge, she should not have presented such a challenge if she wished to remain standing." He continued, lifting a brow as he prodded the corpse once more. He honestly couldn't see what he had done wrong, he could have sworn that if a person lost a challenge, then they had to forfeit something.

...So why shouldn't it be their lives?

"And as I recall, I believe I just did that." He replied in an even more silky tone than the last, his eyes glittering at the challenge this stallion was presenting him. Although this on was different, the stallion had stood his ground so far and he hadn't so much as shrieked. All in all, it was really quite impressive.
PostPosted: Sat Jan 27, 2007 8:58 pm

"Your reasoning is really twisted!" barked the stallion, his voice sounding more like it should belong to some sort of canine than a horse. What a terrible way to think! Didn't he care at all? If not, he should! Among those thoughts, he again wondered where his sudden burst of courage had come from. Maybe he'd just used up all his terror. Could someone do that?

"You probably startled her, is all! Sometimes noises like that are made by instinct before someone can really think about it. Like breathing and blinking. That doesn't mean you can go and stomp on someone for making sounds! It's not right!"

Alright, so his logic was pretty weak, but he felt it was justified.

"I did more than stomp." Venom was clearly enjoying himself as the stallion expressed his horror at the actions. He had rather enjoyed himself as he chased after he mare too but this was a new form of entertainment for him. To have someone attempt to scold and preach to him was new, definately refreshing.

"And she also did more than just squeal, she bolted as well." Flexing his leathery wings the kalona narrowed his eyes. A malicious gleam appeared within them and he shook his head, his mane rippling like dark waters against his skin. "Had she simply squealed, or simply ran away then i would have ignored her... but that cannot be ignored, if only due to how rude it was." He cooed.

Perhaps if he continued to reason with the stallion he could convert him, it would be rather interesting to see if a normal soquili could even eat meet. He seemed to be coping with the smell pretty well...
PostPosted: Sun Jan 28, 2007 6:05 pm

It wasn't so much that Catacus was coping with the smell as he was adapted to it. Yes, horse blood has a different scent than other kinds, but back home, in the barn, they would often slaughter cows or chickens only feet away from him, and chickens outside.

"Don't try and justify this!" If it was possible for ones blood to literally boil, Catacus's flesh would've burned off. Thoughts of 'Why hasn't this thing killed me yet?' and 'I'm so dead.' were forgotten. For now. "Being rude isn't right either, but this is on a different level!"

Now that was a curious response! It was a mystery to Venom, a mystery as to how these creatures managed to give everything a different 'level' of importance. How did they decide where situations should be placed? And more importantly, what happened if someone else disagreed with them in relation to their judgement?

Curious. Curious...

"No praytell, how do you distinguish which situation falls under which category?" Venom enquired in the same silky tone as before, a hint of a drawl in his voice. He couldn't help it, he needed to know and with a flex of his leathery wings he fixed his gaze on the stallion before him.
