I can directly quote me! lymelady Dear lord. *prepares rant* EVERYTHING! To make it easier on my fingers, http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=198366I'll quote part of the intro, Quote: Why are so many kids not adopted? No, not because of women who chose adoption instead of abortion and then people didn't want the children. Not because handicapped kids won't be adopted. Not because everyone wants a perfect white baby. But if this isn't why there are so many unadopted kids, what other explanation is there? Consider the 1.4 billion dollar BUSINESS that is adoption. Consider the children who are taken from low-income homes on the basis that "Their rooms were messy," or "They had scabby knees." As opposed to every other kid in the world of course. Consider the checks foster families get. Consider how much more the checks cover if the child is classified as special needs. Now think about all the abuse children who are abused by foster parents, people who are paid to keep them alive. How on earth can people who foster children for money be abusive??? It's not like it's in their interest to not spend the money on the children. It's not like they won't be punished if they abuse the children. It's not like the real parents won't gain custody. Actually, it is. Yes, I do rant on this issue. The adoption system upsets me. If adoption was better, that is a big point taken away. A lot of people think it's worse to adopt out than abort because of the abuse. What can be done? Stop the business and treat these kids like PEOPLE. The adoption system isn't corrupt, it's many people who manipulate it that end up making it so dangerous. If there was a way to cut them off, that'd be good. But it's government-sanctioned and another way to manipulate the government's well-intentioned money grants. That's just in America, I dunno about other places. I do know that the problem is not with the people adopting, it's with some of the people running it. People are barred from adopting way too easily. There isn't a way to cut off the bad without cutting off the good. Cutting funding for care for orphans wouldn't work. So it'll keep going on. Maybe harsher penalties for people who violate laws to do these things, and keeping them investigated to make sure there isn't the funny business that's going on now. Granted, that's probably over a year old, so it might be better now.

The adoption system definately has a lot of issues it needs to work out. But as far as I can tell, as of right now it's the best option that we have going. Also it's not as horrible as it's made out to be. Although I am a bit biased considering that my boyfriend was adopted.
Plus I'm not American, so our systems are probably different.

Well... on that note, when is anything we stand for or our options or opinions for that matter ever made out to be good or you know, with the intentions that they are there for.
Such as our stance as a whole, because we hate women and want to control their bodies for evil fascits warmongering men.

Some adoption agencies are wonderful. I'd definitely rather a woman adopt out than abort.
The problem is, there are agencies giving those good ones a very bad name, and for the most part, people who're prolife ignore the problems. Just like the rest of the social concerns with helping pregnant women, if we want people to seriously consider alternatives to abortion, we should be working to fix things like that.

You know whay it sucks? Everyone is having an abortion. That's why there are years long waiting lists for parents who desperatly want children. And for some of these future parents it is impossible for them to have children. So they need to adopt. But it is a little difficult when there are no babies to adopt.
Then the teenagers getting an abortion worry that "OMGZ! I'll nevar c it again!!111one!" They don't seem to grasp the consept of Open adoption They seem to think the kid will magicly spontaniously combust at the moment of adoption.

I wouldn't want to give any of my kids up for adoption because I want to raise them a certain way, I would miss them, and don't want them to have to live by too many rules growing up or with values I'm not familiar with, even if it's sort of selfish, so I understand that... if I had a baby and couldn't raise it I'd still adopt, but only after I'd try really hard to find a way to do it myself. And maybe they never heard of open adoption? ^ ^ I never knew about it until a few months ago!

If you know anyone trying to adopt, have they tried another country? People actually tell women, "Consider that if you adopt out, you'll never see your child again, and you never know how it's being treated."

Which isnt really true. In my life manegment class in highschool, they had a section about starting a family. They went into pregnancy and such and then into unexpected pregnancy and adoption. There were three types that they listed. Closed, where you have no contact with the child. Open, where you can visit and are alloud to take pictures and talk to the current parents. (The book talked baout how open adoptions were some times used as a sort of out-care for woman wo adopted out so they could get their life prepared for that child and eventualy re-take the role of his/her mother) and the last I forget what its called, but you cant talk to yur child (untill he/she is 1 cool but are alloud to converse with the adopted parents and keep pictures of your child.

Conren Just wondering, what do you guys think about the adoption system? I think they should fit up the system abit but I think adoption is alot better then abortion. Sure some kids might not have the best life but at least they have a life and can choose what they want to do with their lifes and some do find good homes and families (spelling?). If I got pregnant and couldn't care for the kid, I would check out open adoption where I can still see them and make sure they have a good home (I think some allow the mothers to pick the family that wants to adopt).
