So for today it would seem that there wasn't really all that much to set up. Instead he found a perfect for the class he was needing to teach classroom among the terrain classes as the one he normally used and called his own just wasn't going to work for what he needed it to and and it was far to cold outside for them to have class out there. He would be so glad when the weather warmed up again.

Today they were going to be digging, always fun he thought to himself as he looked over what was on his list. Taren, a mole child was his student for today, they would be tunneling huh? Well he figured that it would be another of those learn as they went classes rather like with flying. Digging though he was sure he could help the boy figure out far easier then he could how to use wings, after all Orpheus himself could in fact dig!

So he was looking forward to it.

"Tarrie stop pulling at them." Silen scolded absently as her eyes flickerd from the paper in her hand to the names and numbers of the doors they passed.

"but they don't feel right." the boy insisted as he picked at the hem of his new pants, they were sleek and had been one of the few materials that won the mole boys approval but he still didn't like it. "Why couldn't I just have worn one of your old nice shirts like normal?" he asked.

"because you cant wear my clothes forever." his gardian retorted as she found the right room, quick cheek on the note and yep this was it. She reached out and pushed it open since it was unlocked. stepping inside.

Tarren took up his cutomary postion behind his guardian's legs, apprently a teacher would meet them his mother had told him well he didn't really want to meet the teacher. He still hadn't outgrown his shyness. And his large claws gathered the fabric of his mother's pants in large claws.

Silen was amased, it was like stepping outside but the area was roofed and thankfully it was alot warmer. "Hello!?" she called scanning the area for the teacher.

Orpheus heard the voices so he turned to head that way, towards his next student and the student's parent. He gave a smile as he looked over at them, "Hello there you two." He greeted them, "Welcome to class. My name is Orpheus Solon, just Orpheus is fine though."

So this was his student? Wow, check out those claws. He must be good already with his digging the teacher figured but if he had seen the notes on the boy right it wasn't so much digging as tunneling. Either way this was going to be fun.

Silen smiled brightly as the redheaded teached appaeared to meet them, well he looked ind and she liked the pleasent expression which seemed natraul to his features which was a postive thing, she felt a little better about the lesson already, after all it was tunneling apprently and whenever Taren had tried tunnels in the past they ended caving in on him, then it lead to scraps and bruises and bath which was always a vaugly traumatic experience.
"I'm Silen Nicoles but Silen is fine and this is taren." She said putting an affecionat hand ontop of the boys dark purples tresses.

Taren was looking at the teacher couriously as well, he liked digging and he was egar to learn how to tunnel proparly but he was still shy. Espicaly when he caught the man looking at his claws and he huffed putting his hands self consiously behind his back. When his mother put her hand on his head he glanced up at her then at the ground, "hello..." he mutterd.

"Its nice to meet you Miss Silen, feel free to hang out with us if you like." He then turned to the mole boy.

"Taren. Today we are going to be working on your tunneling skills which is why I picked this room, its got the best ground for that exact skill." He stomped a foot to show that the ground they were standing on was perfect for digging being a good, dirt floor. Best thing about D-Corp was was the odd classrooms there was always something for everyone.

"First off I'd like you to dig for me, show me what you do now and maybe I can figure out how to help you with the tunneling." He said, jumping right into the lesson.

Taren looked down at the ground automatically when it was mentioned and found to his delight the teacher wasn't telling a naughty fib or anything, indeed the ground looked perfect for digging, nice and tight to take shape but soft enough to be able to shift with relative ease. "hmm okay...." the boy said whn he was asked to dig, he hadn't expected to be asked straight off but he guessed it wasn't a big deal.

Silen stepped back and found a seat on a sawn down tree trunk, leaning back knowing the boy would feel more comfortable if she was near by, and smiling encouragement when he looked at her, she did make sure she was well back though, she knew how the dirt had a tendency to fly everywhere.

Taren got down on his knees and began slowly, digging his claws into the soft earth and dumping a large pile to the side, repeating the gesture and starting to build a little him to one side as he started to pick up speed, going round he hollowed out a bowel that was big enough for him to sit in with plenty of space around before digging in earnest, fast, using his feet despite there smaller size to push the dirt away. In a few minutes he'd nearly dug down deep enough to be completely submerged in the hole even when he stood. And it was quite clear from his smile and the way his eyes lit up that he loved this.

Orpheus watched closely the way that the boy was digging and watching the hole that was being created, from what he gathered the biggest problem was the stability of the tunnels that were dug, did moles back up though? He wasn't sure if real moles dug along forward then backed up though what they had dug up or if they just kept going straight along. It was, "Patting the sides of your tunnels could help." He suggested, "It would pack the dirt more and it may help stability."

He paused a moment as the boy gazed up at him happily, then grinned, "Seems this is something you rather like to do, thats good. Makes the class a lot funner for all involved." He would have to watch very closely in case the tunnel did fall in, that way he could dig the boy up and/or pull him out if he needed saved.

"Building things is fun but digging is the best." he informed him happily as if this was a fact that couldn't be argued. He was already relaxing because he was working and didn't really have a chance to think about what there was to be nervous off, also being in a hole was the safest place he could think off, the soft smell filled his sensitive nose, the fresh overturned dirt letting off a rich scent to the air.

Instead of digging straight down now he'd started on a side tunnel but paused part way in when a few grains of earth fell around him, heavy on his fur, the red headed man had told him to pat the earth. Make sure it was less lose, that made sense. He reached to the side of the tunnel. Pat pat. Gently with the back of his claw, pressing a little more firmly, he tried both sides then unfortuantly the top. That didn't go so well the first tentative pats didn't so much compact the earth as disturb it further and with a dull thud the side tunnel caved in Taren jumping free just in time only have to bruh some of the earth from his fur, at least he was a little more practiced at avoiding such things now.

Silen was still sitting off to the side practically counting down from 10 to 1 when the cave in would happen, knowing it was really inevitable, he wasn't going to get it straight off the bat. Luckly the cave in's rarely harmed him and he just dug himself up or sometimes avoided them jumping back like he had just demonstrate.

Orpheus gave a little bit of a sigh of relief when the boy was about to dodge the collapse and he knelt down to look the tunnel over that he had dug, studying it to see if he could figure out what had gone wrong, "Maybe dig down a little deeper before you start to go sideways? Would give the earth above you more stability." He said thoughtfully, then again it would also mean more that would fall down if it went wrong.

"Maybe when you dig down go an an angle as well? Then start sideways?" It would mean not right angle changes in the digging so maybe that a would better as well? He'd never dug tunnels himself before, he'd heard of some in his old line of work that did but he preferred going at his old job from more an above angle instead of below.

Taren shuffled to the side as the red headed teacher knelt down at the side of the shaft like start of the hole to peer at the collapsed tunnel, the mole boy didn't really like where the other was sitting since he was accidentally knocking down more earth that had previously been cleared into his hole but he didn't say anything, his little brow just furrowed in mild disapproval. It was actauly looked quite amusing on such a small and furry child.

But never the less he listening with interest, he wanted to get this right after all, hmm dig diagonally down, that was easier said than down, since he had never done that before he had to sped a minute working out how to do that, then further time fussily clearing out the dirt that Orpheus knocked in. Before finally starting. This time he also didn't discard completely the earth he didn't use instead because he was now patting down the soil as the other had suggested he pushed it to the side to stabliase the walls. Angling down as well this seemed to work as he got a foot into the tunnel without collapse.

Orpheus saw the boy frowning and he wondered why he was doing that, then scooted back to a better angle at which could watch the boy's digging to see if how it went this time along, not to bad it would seem as he was digging into the tunnel well enough and he hadn't collapsed as of yet, "Doing good." he praised his student. He wondered what it was like to dig like that, into the earth and to move along underground. He would have to ask Taren about it when he came back up, "If things stay stable try digging back up to the surface at an upward angle."

He wanted for the boy to practice digging but at the same time he didn't want him to go to deep until he was ready for that, especially as he had no idea where the dirt ended and the actual cement of the floor in this classroom began.

He'd moved, that was good, no more dirt falling in his hole. He swelled up with the praise, it was rare someone praised him on his digging. getting dirt everywhere, making a whole and often injuring himself it didn't make his mother overly excited. The soil was good here he got through it fast, feeling like wadding through something incredibly thick with a few hard lumps in it. He looked back hearing the redhea's instructions he nodded his aknowalgement.

Now how to do this? A brief experiment discovered digging straight back up so the tunnel was a large wide V shape wasn't going to work because he found there wasn't enough room or stability to angle up the way he wanted , so using his ever growing knowalge he dug along straight to start with, always providing plenty of tightly packed earth before starting on Orpheus's suggestion, this time actually getting somewhere before all the earth fell straight back atop him.Soon he felt he was once again getting throught to the surface once again.

Orpheus waited a moment for the boy to pop his head out of the ground before giving him a smile, "You did really good this time, got a pretty good distance before it collapsed." He told him. He felt that the boy was starting to get the hand of having to keep the walls and ceiling of his tunnels structurally sound though he didn't say that as he didn't want to confuse him.

Notes Home
Practice with your digging, not to deep to begin with just dig down until your under enough that your cover then circle your way back up to the surface. It allows for good practice without any danger to youself. I am sure that you will master your skill as you were doing quite well during class

Enclosed with the short note was also a gift from Orpheus for passing the class
