Did you or do you plan on giving your child an unusual or uncommon name? What name did you choose, and why?

I named my daughter Aeryn. It's a more different way of spelling Erin. We chose it...well my husband chose it due to the fact that it's one of the characters in one of his favorite shows. Farscape. Lol.

I was one of 5 Samantha's in school growing up. I wasn't going to put my daughter through that...

So after much searching on various websites and through innumerable books, her father and I decided on Keiara Celeste {pronounced Key-are-ah}. Keiara is a spelling and pronunciation variation of Keaira {Key-air-ah}, a Gaelic name meaning Dark Little One, and Celeste is Latin for From the Heavens.

Well I dunno if you'd call Kyra an unusual name, but to me it is uncommon. I've liked the name for a long time (at least three years, just look at my account name)
I hate my name, which is Elizabeth. It's too common for me and I do know a couple of other Elizabeths. I was planning on changing my name to Kyra when I was legally old enough to do so, but when Kyra was born when I was 16, it just seemed so right for her to be named Kyra instead.

Though in a few years time when we have another one, if it's a girl again we want to call her Luna. If we have a boy he'll be named Aidan.

lol. If we were having a little boy, my boyfriend was going to name him Arthas, after a Warcraft character. But we're having a little girl. We're naming her Shennandoah Elizabeth.

Had Keiara been a boy, she would have been Cyric, a character in a Forgotten Realms series...

>.<

lol. Well, it's good to know we're not the only ones. My family totally hated the idea of my child being named after a video game character.

If we have a girl, her name will probably be either Channing (after a dear friend of mine that committed suicide), Bethany (though I'm not religious, I think traditional biblical names are so pretty) or Mary Jane (and don't flame me for this but there are two reasons behind it: the first, it's pretty; the second, because I like to, well, smoke...NOT that I am while preggers, mind you).

And for a boy, we tend towards traditional English names like Simon or Theo, and biblical names (once again, not religious, but still) Malachai.

'Course, I'm only a few months along, so who knows what will change? redface

surprised

I just noticed that ~KaeleersHeart~ has a stoner guild in her siggy, though, so I don't feel so weird now.
