As a child, Takara dreamed of becoming a shinigami. This dream became an ambition for her, a reason to live, and an escape from Rukongai. ...Well, she could not really call it an escape, since there was not much to escape from, as she lived in one of the better parts of Rukongai. However, the scenery, the way the people acted: it reminded her too much of Edo, of her mortal home.
Nonetheless, she could not believe what was happening as she stood in front of the dormitories of the Shinigami Academy. Nervously, she wandered around the premises a bit before finding the person who ran the dorms. She quickly hid her nervousness and applied for a room on the fourth floor, happy that not all of the rooms were taken, though most were. The higher the floor, the greater the view. Besides, she had never been on the fourth floor of anything. Takara bid the person good day and, deciding to get a feel of the dorm layout, headed towards the fourth floor.
On her way up, she passed a few people conversing. As she passed them, she was tempted to listen in on their converstions; however, with a bit of self restraint, she resisted and continued up the stairs. Finally at the fourth floor, Takara headed straight to the side so that she could get a good look of the grounds. It was wide, with enough open space for a group of people to do their own activities. Taking a deep breath, Takara backed away and continued wandering around.
Minutes later, Takara headed to go downstairs when she spotted a boy seeming to be around her age, with red hair tied back in a short ponytail, standing in front of room 400. For a moment, she wondered if she should talk to him or not. It would be nice to have a friend; however, it would be too much trouble to actually talk to him and get to know him. Instead, she decided to head to the classroom where she would start her first zanpakutou lessons.

Her first class was pretty normal. There she sparred against a man named Aobara Megumi with feminine features. He was no pushover, and like her, excelled in speed. He was stronger and quicker than her, though. Yet neither were able to land a blow on the other. Their spar ended in a stalemate when their sensei, Miyoko, called the class to an end. Takara could not help but want to spar the man again.
During class, she had met other students, too. However, one in particular stood out--Karite. He had shown disrespected to their sensei and was punished for doing so. He seemed a bit arrogant and foolhardy, but what surprised her the most was when she found out he was her roommate. She had known that rooms on the fourth floor were shared, but did not expect him to be her roommate, of all people. She would learn to get used to him, she supposed.
After class, Takara loitered around, doing nothing in particular. Yet the day of the next class arrived too quickly and she was late, though she was not the only one. There were only a few people there: Miyoko-sensei, Karite, and two new people--Gabriel and Guuya. It seemed like their sensei left Karite in charge while she sorted through things--something Takara found ridiculous.
