Don't be pansies, just don't.
Compromise with the "enemy" is acceptable when they themselves are accepting. Take Talon. I respect Talon, I think Talon is an amazing young woman and despite the fact we disagree on everything remotely related to women, she has been respectful and realizes a pro-lifer is a person regardless.
Or at least I think. Anyhow:
Don't take a back seat to anyone by letting yourself be subject to their rude, unkind comments just in the pursuit of friendship and camaraderie. I used to believe in what the Bible had to say on issues like this: When they slap you on one cheek, turn your face and let them slap the other. In one respect, this shows the world how much the person you are discussing with is an idiot. But the problem is, the breed of Choicer on the internet is often so supported by their friends, their asinine behavior will only be supported, so you have to speak up, have to call a spade a spade, and you have to be direct in what you believe and say.
Person X (People X, like the type of sex they enjoy, yes I'm being facetious) are very asinine. They will deliberately make prejudice remarks against you. They will put you down. Title you untrue things, say untrue things about you, and so on and so forth.
The problem with many pro-lifers is that they let themselves be thrown around. Don't let yourself be thrown around. And I mean that.
To be honest, seeing certain people tell me that my attempt to c**k a public attitude against opposing members is unkind despite what i've been through is "wrong"... that bothers me. I will speak very openly about this now that i've had time to think about it. Who started this guild, supported you all, and defended you all? I did. I will continue to do that. But seeing some people trying to defend others who have absolutely spewed nothing but lies against us and our cause... isn't that a little illogical?
So please, by all means:
When someone is an a**, call them out on it. What business do they have to judge you for your opinions? Your choice of life and beliefs are your own. There is another group of people that look down on others for their ideals and pursuits, they go by many names, but we shall group them into a category best known as "Homophobes".
(And I was going to make a comparison but I'm being very lazy and not thinking of anything convincing at the moment.)
Anyhoo-
The superior one isn't the one who sits on the throne and declares it, he goes out there and fights to prove it. Well, in discussion, it is particularly difficult to "win", but still, fight like you can anyway.

*pats* Debating online is like the special olympics, even if you do win your still a retard, to that essence... and I think thats how it goes :/ I love you guys, and I was accepted by you, debated along side you, and discussed things through with you. But, I've long comed to realize that debating over a 'buncha wires and tubes' is meaningless and pointless, because there is no set regulation debate rules, nor will there ever be in the place. Lemme pull up something I was discussing with PoeticVengance: PoeticVengeance Master Kaiser Well if you want to bring it up but here is basically the rundown of how it goes, since I trust you very much as a friend and you know how I feel on the subject. Anyhoo, most of the able debators won't debate in that thread anymore. For a few reasons I will address, some I wont. First off, we're debating on the basis that all the knowledge they have is automatically correct, basically they hold the rulebook as it stands, and if something doesn't fly by accord, then its nul. Secondly... well if you call what goes on in there 'debate' then I don't know why Congress doesn't throw rocks at one another :/ its about the same. From what I can tell its a personal attack to even be the stance Pro-life to them, like its become you know... zealotry? You've noticed the same information being pumped into a newcomer coming in to understand the side and being filled with some notions of how a person feels personally. And Thirdly, well, just tired of it mostly. This has gotten out of hand, and mostly it's lke trying to debate a brick, or a cupcake, or something. And when they say we are taking the moral highground... no, we're just done, thats all. Debate the newblood, and make the assumptions that that is how a smart pro-lifer is or some such thing. Agreed on all counts. I'm probably one of the few choicers that actually discusses things with the Lifers anymore. I've been complimented so many times by them for showing civility and courtesy, and all I can think is, shouldn't that be the ******** norm? O_o Quote: --- So ya thats basially the rundown. We won't debate unless it's on neutral ground. Another issue to be brought up, which was the thing I was wondering, was that it has become cliqish. Peer was shunned for liking me as a friend and defending me, then he debated Talon and was banned from the forums. Meh again all from what i can tell. Yeah agreed there. It is a clique, and the only reason I haven't been booted is that it would reflect really badly on Talon to kick out the person that wrote the Bodily Domain essay on her front page. Basically from what I can tell, there is no point for debate in this place, and to be quite frank, an extremeist liberal attitude is rampant over ED, because that is where the rules sit. (I mean extreme as in: "well how far is too far, because going all the way isn't too far and who has the right to judge"). We're the underdogs guys, always have been, always will be, and this might seem as us just giving up... well it is, but only because we are tired of the little bicker matches that go between our two sides to give them a fix for making someone feel bad. And like Poetic stated, shouldn't courtesy be the norm? Becuase it sure as hell isn't. Anyway, this rant is basically my offical: 'Kaiser no debatey no more' ...thing. Ya >.> again I know I've stated this before, but these are my reasons.

One thing you might be thinking is for you guys to just quit. No, keep fighting the hard fight, I had my big flop of an idea fall in front of my face for trying to make debate better, but I feel that it is pointless... sorry if there was any miscomunication.

Normally i'll only call my own side out when they're being a tad too over the top, because I care about how we look to others. I don't care about how the pro-choicers look, at all.

Yeah, I have to ditto Kaiser, for the most part.
But I'd like to add that I do think that debate is useful and good for newbies of either side who have been spoon fed by their fellows that the other side is a bunch of morons who believe what they believe because they are either religious or hedonistic idiots, and you are right simply because of common sense. When you debate, you learn more about why the other side thinks what they think, and it forces you to defend your points which either makes your opinion stronger, or it forces you to realize that your side possibly isn't the right side after all (Hopefully that'd be Pro-Choicers becoming Pro-Lifers, but I'm biased. :XP smile .
But there really is no winning. While the "point" of debate is to win, it really isn't possible, because winning would mean having absolute proof that your side is right, and the most important facets of this debate are based on opinion. Is the fetus a person, and does the fetus' right to life override the mother's right to bodily domain? The answer seems obvious to us, but it clearly isn't as obvious to them. So we will forever be at a stalemate.

XP Um, from what i can tell that whole black fetus ops thing they did for a while for recruitment... well I noticed a massive increase of the same arguments being spewed out by the newblood.. like they were spoonfed or something... or were like you know cultistly mind controlled and force fed information (<--- ya thats extreme, but really not to far off of what they say and do, in essence :/ ). Pro-lifers... were usually lead here by some of our, lets say, stronger debators, our leaders, as a refuge from debate and so they can calm their nerves. Biased, but seriously, I try to be the most unbiased guy around.

To be completely honest, I totally agree. In my experience, most of their idiot newbies do seem to be spoonfed "information" by their oldbies, and the oldbies very rarely correct each other or their newbies. So many of their oldbies are unabashedly anti-Pro-Life that they would rather support bad information than support a Pro-Lifers accusations, not to mention it makes them fine with newbies stooping to mudslinging because they themselves already stoop to mudslinging.
I -was- trying to be as neutral as possible. xd And this doesn't hold for all of them, I've met plenty of Pro-Choicers that are good people, and who aren't afraid to call out other Pro-Choicers on their stupidity. But, unfortunately, the leaders of the Pro-Choice guild, whether mods or de facto leaders, are not, in my experience, among those people, and the newbies follow those leaders.
(Also, discloser, I haven't been in the debate thread in forever, so I couldn't say for certain how it is now. But I'd guess that not much has changed.)

(Edited) Standing up when you're insulted? I'm not confident about that for a few reasons, but I would debate if it was a little bit easier! 3nodding My friend showed me a quote today to help me with a separate problem, and it was "Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent." ^ ^ I don't understand how I don't even want to debate, though: It's online. I guess I don't like challenge and having to think fast and make everybody happy, for example, I don't even play racing games anymore because they're challenging and stress me out. It's weird how intelligent and right they act, but many of them aren't even able to keep their head cool when someone says something they don't agree with, just because "it's idiotic"... if you're smart, shouldn't you be mature, too?

Pro-lifers... were usually lead here by some of our, lets say, stronger debators, our leaders, as a refuge from debate and so they can calm their nerves. Biased, but seriously, I try to be the most unbiased guy around. It all started when I decided to poke around some of the ED threads. I found one on abortion, and I enjoy expressing my opinions on political matters. I unknowingly crept into a trap. ninja The second I said anything pro-life...that was it. There were a million of them on me, "like white on rice", as my daddy would say. I really could not get a word in edgewise. As soon as I could counter one, the next one would have already not only had a response to my initial post, but also the counter I had just given, and then 2 more people posting just to pat person number 2 on the back. For once in my life, I actually GAVE UP. That's really saying something concerning me. Thank goodness I was directed to the PLG by a benevolent black cat. After doing some research on the matter, it was made perfectly clear to me just why things like that can happen. The pro-choice guild is roughly double the size of ours. They have various active "campaigns" for both recruitment and support. From what I've seen on their threads, they really do indoctrinate their new members with the baby-killing CLEP notes. This isn't like David vs. Goliath. This is like David vs. Little Boy and Fat Man, being dropped from a stealth bomber which is being piloted by a T1000 terminator robot.

t1000 XD. I loved it! I loled so hard. I rarley nearly fall out of my chair form laughter but you managed it. The whole "Astala vista...baby" thing came to mind upon the dropping of nukes all in my head.
But, yeah, thats their tactic. They swarm. Some times they don't even debate, they just swarm. When you ignore one, or even miss one, and try to concentrate on the other. That ignored/missed one claims you cant debate them so why shoudl any one try and debate you, and they all start to agree, and so you're ignored by the whole lot. Never mind that they have five people posting at the same time you are.
The majority of Gaia is liberal, its what you have to face for being a minority. Say something anti-gay marriage and your swarmed. Say somethign pro-life and you're swarmed. Say somethign pro-bush (or mostly anything pro republican or conservative) and you're swarmed.

Mob Mentality FTL D:
And don't be discoruaged, you didn't give up, you were fed up. It really is total BS what you have to put up with in there.
Hell, I think only a few of us have ever 'debated' 6 of them continuously, and its tough work and its hard.
