Dear lord. *prepares rant*
EVERYTHING!
To make it easier on my fingers,
http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=198366I'll quote part of the intro,
Quote:
Why are so many kids not adopted? No, not because of women who chose adoption instead of abortion and then people didn't want the children. Not because handicapped kids won't be adopted. Not because everyone wants a perfect white baby.
But if this isn't why there are so many unadopted kids, what other explanation is there?
Consider the 1.4 billion dollar BUSINESS that is adoption. Consider the children who are taken from low-income homes on the basis that "Their rooms were messy," or "They had scabby knees." As opposed to every other kid in the world of course. Consider the checks foster families get. Consider how much more the checks cover if the child is classified as special needs. Now think about all the abuse children who are abused by foster parents, people who are paid to keep them alive.
How on earth can people who foster children for money be abusive??? It's not like it's in their interest to not spend the money on the children. It's not like they won't be punished if they abuse the children. It's not like the real parents won't gain custody.
Actually, it is.
Yes, I do rant on this issue. The adoption system upsets me. If adoption was better, that is a big point taken away. A lot of people think it's worse to adopt out than abort because of the abuse. What can be done? Stop the business and treat these kids like PEOPLE. The adoption system isn't corrupt, it's many people who manipulate it that end up making it so dangerous. If there was a way to cut them off, that'd be good. But it's government-sanctioned and another way to manipulate the government's well-intentioned money grants. That's just in America, I dunno about other places. I do know that the problem is not with the people adopting, it's with the people running it. People are barred from adopting way too easily.
There isn't a way to cut off the bad without cutting off the good. Cutting funding for care for orphans wouldn't work. So it'll keep going on. Maybe harsher penalties for people who violate laws to do these things, and keeping them investigated to make sure there isn't the funny business that's going on now.
