Name: Depression (that's what I'm gunna call it) Location: World Wide as far as I know Type: ... Uhh... Depressing? Facts: I really don't have many but I have heard that every 18 seconds, someone in the US ALONE dies of suicide. What's sad is that pretty much anything can lead a person to suicide; a divorce (whether it's their own, their parents, their friends, their relatives, etc.), abuse, grades, a break-up, general depression, stress, not having enough money, you name it.

This is a good topic Em, I would not have thought to put it up! *pats* good.
Contrary to popular belief, depression is an epidemic brought on by a whole butt load of reasons, but it remains true that wealthy countries bear the brunt of the "attack" from depression.
I myself have - and still am - battling with the beast known as depression. But a little known fact is that depression is not just from "having a bad life" but rather can be given down through the generations (if your father or mother was depressed it doesn't mean that you are too). Another thing is that very few who suffer (from depression) actually know that they do indeed suffer from depression. This is a great topic because almost everyone either has or is affected by depression.
I suppose I could talk more about my personal experiences with depression, but right now I have to do homework.

(This is Em speaking right now) Alright, spelling! ((rubbs hands together)) (This is Chels)Like all the commercials say - as cheesy as it may be - depression hurts, not just emotionally but physically. (*dies* I know... Spelling... Em, come clean up after me!) In sever cases (such as moi) you can have panick attacks and things like that. (Such as my not so fun trip to the hospital this week for some meds sweatdrop ) Depression is not just a state of mind, and can't always be overcome alone. Meds may or may not be right for a person. *steps off soap box*
Alright, now lets talk about how it affects our society...thank you. (Back to Em's edit of this post) Sheesh! Grammer too! (And now I'm gone.)

(so why is it suprising that that stat came from the US..?) It is depressing! Sorry to ruin your good mood! gonk Yeah, it seems that the more people have, the more they see that they want. For example, if you have a TV, you can watch comercials and see adds for other things that you then know exist and you want them. Suicides can happen for a number of reasons, the death of a loved one, the death of a pet, being behind in school, being teased, being outcasted, not having the money to pay bills, the list goes on and on. Even if not suicide, depression can lead to other things like cutting, premartial sex (as if we didn't have enough), experimenting with drugs, break-ups, other self-harm activities... It's never good to be depressed. One thing leads to another and if it isn't stopped early on, the consequences get worse and worse.

Depression is awful... And Forever-Fornever is right; we have enough issues in the world. But... Depression is ineviatebly one of them. And a big one, too. Even though people can say "sticks and stones may break my bones, words can never hurt me," it's not true. Words often hurt more. Heh. I remember what we used to say in elementry school. "I am rubber, you are glue. What you say to me bounces of me and sticks to you." Enough reminiscing (MOD's? Spell check this word if you get the time, please?). Words can cause inner turmoil and, when you think about it, your brain is inside your body. Abuse to your body... It can be and is caused by inner turmoil and pain.
... Huh? I understood that just a minute ago. I have no idea what happened. It's a little confusing now... Maybe because it dosn't directly relate to depression... But it does...
I'm gunna go be quiet now, alright?

I'm gunna go be quiet now, alright? *claps* I agree fully! I would much rather have broken my arm ten times over than hear I was depressed, but the reality of it is, is that it's made me who I am, and it's for the better, not the worse. Words are the most hurtful things EVER, nothing is worse than a well timed verbal lashing. Another reason this world is so terrible. It's because too many people are hurt, and too many people deal with hurt by hurting. My mother would never have beat me if she hadn't been hurt like she was. She would never have told I was nothing and stupid if she was told she was loved. I was/still am hurt, but I can't hold that against my mother. Besides, I don't live with her anymore so she has no power over me or my life.

That was me telling you not to be stupid. Probably. This topic is a little slow due to lack of things to comment upon and think of ways to fix. Then again, depression is inevitable so can I declare this world issue unachievable/concluded?

Dpression is a medical problem that can be cured, but it is also a feeling that should also not exist. Therefore the topic remains open to dicsuss how we can solve people feeling better in general about our world.
