Golden eyes flashed in the darkness, the absence of light making it hard to see almost everything. The moon was gone and Khepri was out at night, it wasn't her favorite time of the day, but the large red ex-firekin had figured that it would keep her from being asked too many questions during the day.

However.... now she was regretting it. Here she was, lost on the boarders of a forest that she didn't know, trying to find a thing she didn't know existed, in a place that she couldn't find. The golden eyes closed for a moment as she sighed angrilly and rolled her scarred shoulder.

"When Ah find these thin's Ah'm gonna go an' sleep fer a bloody week." Khepri sighed under her breath in her thick accent. Staying up every night and every day was starting to take its wear on the large lioness.

Mapenzi had long since left the lands of the Mistweavers, quite glad to be rid of its rather unwelcoming atmosphere. Now, in the middle of nowhere, she was taking a brief midnight stroll to stretch her legs. Cramp had seized hold of her left back leg and she hobbled about like miserable wretch trying to get the feeling back.

"Damnit all!" she cursed rather loudly, not expecting another lioness to be about.

A loud curse met Khepri's sensitive ears and she flicked them over in the direction of a lioness that she could see very faintly through the darkness. Her golden eyes shimmered and glistened from the moonlight, taking in the clouded looking blue and black female before her. Who was this, another that would make fun of her for her fur and her accent?

A grumpy frown crossed slowly over Khepri's muzzle for a moment and she wiped it instantly from her face. Curling her large white toes, the female took a few steps forward, cursing herself silently for being far too kind as to go and try to figure out what was wrong with the other.

"Yo' alrigh' cousin?" Khepri called out softly.

Uh oh!

Someone else was out here! The cramp hadn't yet disappeared from Mapa's leg, so as she stumbled backwards a bit in order to avoid the dark blur she saw approaching, she looked very visably lame. And her intermittant sharp gasps did even less to hide her in the darkness.

"...I'll be fine, go about your business friend," she called back in a nervous way.

Stepping into the moonlight so her fur lit up and shimmered faintly, Khepri watched the lioness stumble on her back leg and worry leapt into her huge heart. She always worried for others and the same was true for this female despite how she didn't know her at all.

"Are yo' sure yo're fine cousin? Yo' look like yo're sore or 'urt." Khepri said, worry evident in her thick voice and her eyebrows pulling together.

Despite her size, it was quite apparent that she was very docile and submissive.

This other lion may have looked intimidating, but as the moments whizzed by and Mapa's temporary lameness seemed to tug at heart-strings, she become less formiddable and more of an asset. Or sucker, whichever word you prefer.

Mapa could often think quickly, and she could also be foolhardy. But tonight, she was thinking quickly. As the tingles disappeared from her leg, she continued her little lame act but made sure to be subtle and endearing in her acting.

"Oh...ah!...ee...I'll be fine...just a little injury, nothing...to ah!...worry about," she said humbly as she hobbled around to face Khepri.

She was awed by the sheer attitude her companion exuded, even if in reality, she was as docile as a lamb.

Khepri's golden eyes flashed with more worry but she forced herself to respect the other's words that she was okay. If she claimed it to be so, despite her words or the slight hobble then the large ex-firekin would believe it to be true. Even if she had left, she still understood pride thanks to the old one she'd lived with, the pride that you could do anything on your own and didn't need help, she'd grown up knowing of that but not really listening to it. At least when it came to herself.

"Ah, well if yo're okay then, Ah suppose then Ah'll listen. If yo' need anythin' though?" Khepri threw that out there as an offer. Of course she would help the best she could, that's just who she was.

Her eyes flicked around her, looking to see if there were any proof of the Ela' around here. Probably not, she had the feeling she'd been here before after all.

"I'll soldier on, as you do. I don't want to be a bother," she replied, her tone unmistakably meek and mild-mannered.

Quite the contrast to what she was really like, hm? Mapa noticed that Khepri's eyes suddenly became unfocused and looked about for something, which was probably no good at night like this.

"Can I do anything to help you?" she offered as part of her illusion.

Snapping her eyes back to the other and blushing so deeply that her crimson fur tinged a bit, the large female bowed her head to the other.

"Ah'm lookin' for a pride called the Ela'. At least... Ah think they're a pride." Khepri said sheepishly, she'd just gone off of what she'd been told, so she didn't quite know if they were a pride or if they were just a group. "Ah've been lookin' for so long it's startin' ta make meh think Ah should just settle down an get cubs and forget, but Ah can't forget."

Khepri felt her heart jerk as she mentioned cubs, she still wanted some. A sigh came from her and she let her thoughts roam back to the sea where she'd left Kota not so very long ago.

"The Ela? Hmm...well, I can't say the name rings a bell but there are places where even I haven't been yet. I'd heard rumours of a tiny pride to the east, might be a good place to start looking," she mused genuinely.

Aside from the Umande'fumi lands, Mapa made it a rule not to venture too deeply into another pride's territory, for fear of complications. Her specialty was sweet-talking rogues who had nothing to lose.

She had to wrinkle her nose at the mention of cubs, but fought back her initial response of 'Cubs? What do you want them for?' She by no means hated cubs, she just didn't want to look after them. Too messy, too demanding and for very little in return, at least in her view.

"You look like you need some rest."

"To the east?" Khepri wracked her brain to see if she'd ever been to the east just yet. She couldn't really remember it, she did remember ending up here somehow after leaving Kota at the ocean.

Though that was probably just because her broken heart had lead her extremely far off course from where she'd originally been. Or originally wanted to go. As she remembered she wanted to go WEST.... so she didn't remember anything else.

"Well... yo' can' rest a wanderin' 'eart. No mattah 'ow broken it is." She smiled weakly and dropped her ears to either side of her head. Was it so obvious that she was in pain? Or rather that she was emotionally tired?

Khepri's obvious heartache caused two reactions inside Mapa. Firstly, she couldn't bear to see her like this. She had been burned by love herself and was in that exact same spot once before. And hated it. So a part of her, the part that still believed in the fickle thing called 'love', went out to Khepri and almost wished she'd find her true love right around the corner.

But then another part just felt disgusted. She'd grown and 'matured' ot a point in her life where she didn't need love. It was all about self-preservation and love just didn't factor into it. It was this second reaction that came out stronger, with a quick sneer curling on her maw. She had to fight back disdainful comments once more.

"Thats no way for a lioness to speak. And who's to say things have ended for you? You're still searching for something...or someone," she cooed, slipping back into character.

"Its no good trying to do anything in the dark, why don't you rest for the night, and in the morning, I'll take you to the place I'd heard about this small pride of lions."

Blushing once more and inclining her head deeply to the other, Khepri laughed sheepishly in her rough voice.

"Ah'm sorreh Ah didn' mean ta make it sound like it all ended." Her golden eyes looked down at her white tipped paws silently. "It just 'urts ta know tha' Ah left 'im all alone out there."

Blinking at the other, she sat down and stretched out her large toes slightly. She hadn't thought about going to sleep for a long time, sure she slept, but she slept mostly during the dawn hours or the dusk hours. While they didn't last for very long, it showed that she rarely slept at all, in fact it showed on her face and in the way she moved most of the time. She was constantly shuddering and wobbling on her feet.

"Ah 'aven't slept well in months.... Ah just search mosta the time." She smiled, her ears flat to her skully sheepishly, showing that she knew it was dumb. "Ah guess Ah figured tha' Ah'd get some good sleep once Ah find wha' Ah'm lookin' for..."

"You're a stubborn thing aren't you?" she teased, revealing for a brief moment her admiration for Khepri's determination.

"Well, I can't go very far in the dark," she continued, now reverting back to that more modest and endearing attitude. "Would you stay the night? So I don't fall prey to any marauding beasts?"
