Indigo eyes stared sadly into the water. How long had it been...? Too long. Sighing, a rather lonely looking adolescent sat up. Long fluffy fur ruffled in the wind, taking a few black, white, and brown hairs with it. His reflection told him nothing. Black ears folding back, Veshengo reached down, smacking his brown paw against the water, distorting it. Why? The eternal question... Why wasn't his mother there? Why did she have to be gone so long? Why... Everything? Why weren't there enough females in the pack? There was just Twawa, and she was.. Out of his reach. He had nobody, nobody had him. Trembling and fighting back sobs, the male wondered if anything would go right for him. Smaller than the rest, and so... Different. He couldn't put his paw on it, but he was different somehow. Why?

Black and white paws carefully navigated the paths. How long had it been? Too long. Bi-colored ears stood erect, listening for the slightest sounds. What they heard picked up the sounds of choked sobs. The owner stopped, acid green eyes scanning. And they landed upon a forlorn hairy mess in the distance. Ears folding back, Cushti Bok felt a wave of guilt. She'd more or less abandoned her son. Months away had almost made her forget she even had a son. Seeing him made her realise how much she missed him. Puffing her lungs up, she let out a howl of greeting, hommage to the old Kingwa'mbwa ways of which she'd been born.

Ears perked up as the howl reached his ears. Veshengo turned, spyng his mother through the brush. But the sense of abandonment was still there, still stung in his heart. Trembling, he turned away, back to the water. No, she didn't want him... She'd left him.. Another sob managed to choke its way out, unable to be muffled.

Hurt emenated from the female as she watched her son, her only child, turn away from her. Sighing, she went over to him. "Veshengo..." She stopped, not sure what to say. Flicking her ears back, she contemplated, then sighed. "I could apologise, but I don't think that would matter." She went and sat next to him, startled by how much bigger she was. And he was an adolescent? She shook her head a bit. "I know I left at such a crucial time, but I had to.. I had to see if my cousin was alright. Adia is, besides you and her children, my only family. And Adia's a frightened creature, so I feared for her safety..." She looked at the water, noticing their paws. While she was physically larger, Veshengo's paws were much larger than her own. Probably a trait of Aladar's..

A tear dripped off the male's silver nose into the water. "You're staying, right? Please say you're staying..." He looked up at her, the hurt and need both burning in his indigo gaze. Ears folded back a bit, he leaned against his mother, closing his eyes.

His mind still ran a thousand miles, turning over and trying to figure out what made him different. After a moment, he opened his eyes, staring at a bug dancing across the water. "Mother... I feel so different from everyone else... Why?" His gaze returned to her, questioning this time.

Ears folded back in shame. The female looked at her son, smiling almost tiredly. "Don't worry, Veshengo... I plan on going nowhere else now." She nuzzled him, rubbing her cheek to his. So fluffy... It made her smile. She lapsed into silence, looking out over the water at the fish swimming. So beautiful...

Her own mind filled with their thoughts, pondering the happenings of things. She didn't ponder Adia's staying where she was. She had a family there, there was reason to stay. As there was reason for Cushti Bok to stay where she was... Her son was here. White ear flicking, the mother looked at her son when he spoke again. "That is something I cannot answer for you, my son." Green eyes danced a bit. "There are things I can help you with, and there are things you must help yourself with. I could tell you many stories about great wild dogs that have found the answers to the greatest problems in the world on their own." Nuzzling him, she licked him between the eyes, smiling at the way he wiggled.

Blinking, Veshengo looked his mother in the eyes. For a moment, he stared, considering what she'd said. After a moment, he looked back at the water, watching the fish. "But... How can I answer my own question when I don't know the answer? How do I find the answer? What must I do?"

A sad sigh escaped. "You will have to go away, Veshengo. You will have to journey to find yourself. You may meet many others, you may not meet anyone at all. Only fate will decide that." She nuzzled him, then rose, beconning him to the pack's borders. Looking out at the lands beyondl, Cushti Bok sighed. "I will miss you while you are gone, as you missed me. But my son... You shall be changed in some profound way when you return."

Veshengo's ears folded back as he followed his mother. Leave the packlands? He'd never left them before. But he could see that she was serious, and it pained her. Nuzzling into her shorter coat, he breathed in her scent. "I will... And when I find out who I am, and what makes me different... I will return." He looked up at her, eyes shining a bit. "I promise." Turning to the lands that stretched far, he took a deep breath and leapt forward, running as fast as his thoughts. He didn't stop to howl, to bid farewell, simply... Ran. Where his paws would take him, he didn't know, but he would find out.

A tear ran down Cushti Bok's face as she watched her son, her only offspring, go. Choking back a sob, she shifted in her demeanor and let out a mournful howl of farewell. Her son would return, she knew it, but she would still miss him.
