I'm surprised that this book hasn't been mentioned here. Le Petit Prince, or The Little Prince, by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, has been published in over 100 languages. It was intended as a children's book, so while its themes and messages can deal with more complex issues, the text itself is excellent for beginners in a foreign language. Thus far, I've read it in French and English, but you can find several different versions online.
For those of you who have read it, what were your impressions?

It's such a bittersweet piece of literature. My father cries whenever he reads the end of it aloud^^;

We saw it in the theater in French and that was quite good. I like the scene with the fox. It probably is the most famous one?

I read it in Finnish and I must say it was very clever! surprised
Maybe I should read it in some foreign language, never thought about that.

My french class read that as a project ^^.
I read it in spanish and english too.

Mhh... First time i read it , I was 6 or 7 . I didn't understand all the subtility of the book and didn't find it was such an exciting book
Some years later, around 16, I gave it another chance and I was amazed by the union of such a poetic writting [read it in french, that's my advice :/ It's always so much better in the original language] and such a realistic description of the world.
Anyways, the end is goddamn sad D: I don't know... It is written in such an extraordinary way...

I got it as a present when I was 10 (in English) and thought it was amazing. *_*
I'm going to try reading it in French sometime, but I'll need a dictionary at by my side. wink
|

We read it twice(the second time by request) in my french class. my class is made up of girls(and 4 boys) so we all(except the guys) were crying at the end of it. crying

I read the part about his serpent that the grande personnes think is a hat. razz It made me giggle, I want to read the whole thing eventually biggrin

I have read it a good number of times in English. To be able to read Le Petit Prince and The Phantom of the Opera in their native tongues are actually among the main reasons I am learning French.

I've only heard good things about this book and I hope to eventually read the French version (Although I'll have to study up before hand).
But if it's written in so many languages I think I'll try and find a Spanish version of it in the meantime!
