Yeah. 3nodding And the time (2nd gig) when she's hacking this agency and the tachikomas are backing her up. All thorough the episode they keep mentioning a badass cyber pirate which turns out to be The Major. biggrin
When they're about to enter the room she disconnects, jumps to the ceiling, opens the vent and goes in. All while 'I can't be cool' plays in the background. heart
The episode is ambivalence.

Ah... but you all leave out the Master Himself.... Need I say more? Gotta love the part where the Major disguises herself as The Laughing Man.... That isn't only hacking, that's espionage baby. ninja Love how Batou is impressed by her disguise at the end of the episode.

I think Laughing Man is a better hacker than the Major or the Original Puppet Master. Then again I'm always biased with the Laughing Man. He l337 u|3e|2 awesome!

necat I remember that episode. Major can kick anyone's a** at hacking-anytime of day, awake or asleep. lol O'rly? I'm pretty sure that the Puppeteer, from both the original movie and comic could do it. Even if she were awake.

Cruzat The Life I think Laughing Man is a better hacker than the Major or the Original Puppet Master. Then again I'm always biased with the Laughing Man. He l337 u|3e|2 awesome! Aramaki even says in an episode with the major right there that the Laughing Man was a class A super hacker and may have skills even beyond her own.

Laughing Man was a better hacker, its not a matter of favorites. Motoko was hard pressed to "troubleshoot" the explaintion for the series of events that led to her meeting with him. (She was obviously on her toes the entire time, I'm not the biased type, but take gawd he saved her from that damned crazy nurse..) I feel like I'm still not sure on the back story on Laughing man, but I do remember he was an unique genius from a young age, and he still seemed "young" when he revealed himself. Austism beat downloads here. Its amazing... I hate to admit.

I am an adamant Major fan, but I think it's bloody obvious that the puppeteer is much better than anyone else the series has seen.
I mean, without effort, it pinned the major, motionless and altered her very ghost to suit it's needs, merging with her. Quite a feat! Even the laughing man couldn't do as much.
As for the laughing man, he's certainly skilled, gifted really, and with more purely net-based experience than the Major, for all his youth. I think that he's at least an equal match for her, with perhaps a slight edge. It's difficult to tell because for all the times their interests clashed, the Major and the Laughing Man never came into a direct conflict, hacking-wise. Now, in 2nd gig, the mind-hub sometimes known as "Comerade Kuzei" directly defeated the Major mind-to-mind at least once. The fact that she later supported his efforts does not negate the fact that his forethought defeated her skills outright.
Batou, of course, poses no threat to any of them. wink
Hence:
Puppeteer > Laughing Man (and/or) The Major > Everyone Else
Kuzei > The Major > Everyone Else, and Batou
...what do you think?
