Flit x Aaka
Flit wandered into the snow-covered meadow, his tail between his legs and head down low. He glanced around the area as he slowed his pace down to a crawl. Something had spooked him the night before last and he was still nervous about wandering out on his own over the meadow. He flicked his ears irritable as he told himself not to get spooked again. His gaze fll upon an abanonded indian teepee as he passed by it. The human scent was still lingering nearby and he knew that the human that had occupied it must have either left in a hurry or was dead.
Shaking his head, he shook his coat to rid it of the snow that had collected on it and he raised his tail slightly. Just the thought of him being alone made him feel a little better. He wanted to join a pack, but found none nearby. His weight made thigns difficult, too. Since the beginning of winter, he hadn't killed very many prey to keep him at the right weight a wolf should be at. His ribs were showing and he looked like a ruffled bird with his fur patchy. He stopped a few miles and sat down on his haunches. "what's the point in walking. I might die in a few days," Flit muttered to himself. He couldn't smell anything nearby due to the snow covering all scents. Sighing, he gazed at the cloud-covered sky and wished that he was dead right now.
----------
The scent-less she-wolf wandered dignantly into a meadow. It was snow-covered and absolutely beautiful. It reminded her of back home, with her daughter and mate and the rest of their children and pack. It seemed so long ago...
No, best not to bask in the past, sometimes it could be deadly. Instead her intense violet eyes focused on what was ahead of her while her jaws held tightly the corpse of a dead rabbit, freshly caught. The smell drifted up into her nose tauntingly, coaxing her to eat it now. But she was a picky wolf and so wouldn't eat it unless she found the perfect spot.
And so Aaka moved forth on her toes as was her habit, making ony a thin line in the snow as a trail. She was about to bound forth effortlessly, being a wolf of the snow, when something bright and oddly colored caught her precious eyes.
Stopping immediately, she glanced over in Flit's direction. It was another wolf, one with bright colors on its pelt. She couldn't determine the sex of the other, however, being as the snow was freezing her nose and the scent of the hare covered all others.
Dropping her kill, the young wolfess ventured forth cautiously, not quite sure whether he was a threat or not and not wanting to creep up and scare the poor fellow. He looked rather thin, she noticed then.
"Hello?" she called out, hoping to grab his attention without startling him.
----------
Flit pricked his ears up when he heard someone say hello. He gazed around the meadow again and spotted another wolf. He flicked an ear to see that her pelt looked like a wildcat's. He slowly stood up on all fours and wandered over to her. He didn't get started very easily, yet he was often shy of others. He wanted to rid himself of the weakness that plagued him, so he often went on the prowl for others of his kind. Today he found one..well, the othe wolf actually found him, but at least he was going to be able to see another wolf.
As he approached the femme, he slowed down again and stopped around 50 yards away from the femme. He flicked his tail slightly and raised it to the height that a gamma wolf held it at. Even though he wasn't in a pack, he still showed the femme that she was higher in the chain than he was. He gazed at her for a few brief moments before finally speaking. "hello," he said quietly to the femme. he was uncertain about the femme's motives or what made her tick, so he decided not to say anything else.
----------
Aaka watched the other intently, though her eyes were soft and warm. Never would she hurt another creature, nor did she ever want to appear like she would. So when Flit approached her almost submissively, she lowered her head and ears to hopefully strengthen the impression that she was no threat to him.
When he finally spoke, though it was quite softly and timidly, she couldn't help but smile encouragingly.
"Hello," she said again, this time not as a question. "Do you live around here?" If so... perhaps she could get some directions from him. She wasn't quite sure where she was going exactly, but it would be nice if he knew about any borders and such.
No need for a newcomer to go getting herself into trouble just because she was a tad ignorant on the local packs.
----------
Flit saw the femme lower her head to him to show that she wasn't a threat. He pricked his ears up at her and wagged his tail a few times to show that he acnowledged that she wasn't a thread. 'Maybe this wolf can help me find a pack,' he thought to himself.
He canted his head to one side as the femme replied to his hello. He smiled shyly at her and listened to her question carefully. Slowly, he shook his head and sat down on his haunches. "No, I don't. I just wander wherever the wind takes me," he told her calmly. 'ask her now!' nagged a voice in the back of his mind. He flicked his tail and pushed the tiny voice aside. There was plently of time for him to ask that question.
----------
The gray female wagged her tail in return and placed her head back in its original position. She was glad that he realized she wasn't a threat to him. It always sadened her to think that others might be afraid of her simply because she carried herself proudly. It was just habit after being both a beta and alpha in the same pack.
Now though... she might as well forget the whole standing proud thing. Aaka was a loner now and so probably shouldn't be carrying herself the way she was. But that didn't matter now... Flit understood she had only good intentions and so she didn't have to deal with the whole stance thing now.
"Ah, a wanderer," she grinned, looking up at the warm sky briefly then back towards the oddly colored male. "Then I'm guessing you don't know much about the packs around here, huh?" she pondered aloud, somewhat voicing his thoughts and her own.
"Well... oh, yes! I'm Aaka. It's a pleasure to meet you... uhm..." she paused and blinked. Well, she didn't know her name, now that she actually thought about it.
Hopefully the male wouldn't be too skiddish and such to give her his name...
----------
it was then that he realized that he hadn't introduced himself to the femme. Hiding a blush, he pinned one ear back slightly as he flicked his tail slightly. "Flit. My name is Flit. It is nice to mee you, too, Aaka," he said to her kindly. The question about him not knowing about packs didn't surprise him. He was half-expecting the question being asked to him. "No, i don't know about packs, even though I have been here quite a while. i guess i am no good being a wolf," he said sadly.
he wished that a pack would take him in, but it seemed that fate wasn't going to be very kind to him. "You a wanderer, too?" he asked her. it was curious to see a female without another wolf around. He always thought that all females were part of a pack, but here was one without another wolf nearby. 'Was she not with a pack?' he thought to himself. He glanced at his coat and sighed. It stood out too much. Prey would just run away from him whenever he got closer. 'Maybe a pack might help hide my coat if I stay near the back of the hunt,' he thought to himself again.
----------
Aaka, tail still wagging, sat down comfortably. This was a pleasant change from all of those months alone, during the time she was traveling here. And what luck she had, stumbling upon a nice male instead of some aggressive territorial one.
"Oh, well, that's alright," she replied calmly and smoothly, a warm smile still occupying her face. It wasn't like she needed to find a pack or anything. It was just she would have rather been informed so she didn't get herself killed. But then... she supposed she could always sniff around for borders to make sure she didn't tresspass or anything. Yes, that would work quite well.
"Oh, but Flit, not knowing about the packs doesn't make you a bad wolf," she said, a slightly frown coming upon her features. "It simply means.." Well, she didn't quite know what it meant.
"Ah, well, no matter. It's not something I need to know anyways," she laughed, shaking her head slightly at herself. The gray wolfess then just looked back at her company, smiling again.
"Me? Oh, yes, yes, I'm a wanderer. Or now I am anyways. I came from the far north, over the mountains where it snows almost constantly. I'm out looking for my mate..." Suddenly her eyes clouded and she looked sad for a moment. But then she quickly shook her head and brightened up once more. There was no need to go dumping her troubles on this lovely fellow.
"Heh, sorry about that, I just can't help myself sometimes..." Hm.
"Oh, uhm, anyways... you look hungry. Do you want something to eat? I've caught a hare and I left it back a couple of feet. It should be quite appetizing, I just recently caught it." Then, without waiting for an answer, Aaka rose to her paws and went to fetch the kill.
A moment later she came back with it in her jaws, tail wagging. "Here," she mumbled through a mouthful of fur before dropping it.
----------
Flit nodded his head and sighed. It was good that she thought that he wasn't a bad wolf. Maybe he should run into more wolves like this femme. He wagged his tail, too, as he listened to the femme talk. He sighed as he heard that she had a mate, but he wasn't disappointed. he was glad that the beautiful femme had someone kind and caring to look after her. he had no mate to love because of his constant wandering. he wished that he could settle down and find a mate of his own.
After listening to her talk he heard her mentioned something about food. He canted his head to one side and stared at her as she trotted away to get the prey that she had fell. A few moments later, she looked at the kill in her maw and he pinned his ears back against his skull. "Are you sure?" he looke uncertain about it. She barely knew him and yet here she was offering him her own kill. He timidly walked towards the kill and started mibbling at it. Since it wasn't his own, he decided to eat it sparingly, leaving most of the meat to the femme.
----------
Aaka smiled warmly at the other. She was a strange spirit, and so never ate in the presence of others. Perhaps it was because she didn't want anyone seeing her precious gray fur spattered with blood or simply because her eating habits were barbaric. Whatever the reason, she didn't eat around anyone; not even her mate had seen her eat before.
Then, when he spoke timidly about the food, she drooped her ears slightly. "Of course! You seem to need it more than I do, plus I just ate recently." The female nodded, stepping back slightly to show Flit that the kill was all his. She could always go off and catch something else if she ever got hungry again.
"Please, don't you worry. I was a leader in the hunt in my former pack," she wasn't bragging, but merely informing. "I could catch something else if I need to... or if you want something else. Really, it's no trouble..."
----------
Flit lifted his head up when he heard her say the words 'former pack'. "Former pack? Is the pack still in existence?" he was curious of it. If the pack was still around, would she know the location of it? He had been pack-less for a while and was now craving the attention of other wolves. Maybe she knew where this pack may lie. He watched her back away from both him and the kill she had given him. He nodded his head, acknowledging to her that he understood.
carefully, he began to eat the kill slowly, trying to get as much meat as he could off of the bones of the kill Aaka fell. After a few moments, he had cleaned away one of the forelegs of the kill and started moving onto the belly of the creature. he held his ears up to hear if she had anything to say about her former pack.
----------
"Yes, my former pack. My mate and I used to be the alphas of it. Oh, it was such a wonderful and prosperous pack. Then my mate disappeared and... well, he's been gone for quite some time now, almost a year I believe." The young female shook her head, trying to clear it of the horrid thoughts that clouded her mind. There were so many possibilities of what could have happened to Kapu...
"Ah, but anyways. My daughter took over the pack with her mate. They really are great leaders.... I submitted to a beta position along with my mate's brother, Zing. But then I got tired and I went off to find my mate." She nodded then, letting her eyes wander all around her and stare at the beautiful landscape of the place.
In another moment she was looking back towards Flit as he ate. Funny, she would have thought he would've attacked the thing like a rabid, mad creature. But that was just an assumption of how someone might act if they hadn't had proper food and nutrition. Yet it seems that the former-alpha had been mistaken.
"I'm sure they are still together, my daughter and her pack. I'd doubt she'd let anything happen to them... Willow Pup would have made sure they were safe." Suddenly her eyes clouded over once more as she was struck with homesickness... but in an instant it was gone.
"And they should still be occupying the same lands..."
----------
Flit managed to eat half of the belly of the creature before stopping. It seemed like his stomach had shrunk slightly since the beginning of winter. He listened carefully to the femme's words and he nodded his head. He took a few brief moments to clean his muzzle with the snow that was laying on the ground and he looked up at the femme with kind eyes.
"do you think your daughter would accept me as part of her pack?" he was glad to hear that it was still alive and thriving. maybe now he could finally get a pack and meet new friends. he was sad to hear that Aaka's mate had ran away from the pack and now it was her job to go out and find him. he hoped that she found him soon.
----------
Aaka managed to keep herself calm for long enough to get the horrible thoughts and images out of her mind. Nothing bad had happened to any of them... fate had been kind and had let them all live peacefully. Yes, tha was it...
Then her thought train was suddenly broken when Flit asked if Amy would accept him in her pack. Instantly her ears perked forward as this male seemed interested in joining. Hm...
"Oh, yes, she'd accept anyone fit enough. I can't make any for sure promises though." But then she tilted her head slightly, finally thinking of something. How was he to get there? The journey was long and hard, Aaka had nearly died from it. Plus, how would he find his way? She had only ended up here out of sheer luck from finding safety from the blizzards of the mountain.
Finally, she decided to voice these thoughts. "But how shall you get there? It's a terribly long journey, I'm afraid. The packlands are over the mountains and against the sea. I almost didn't make it..."
The gray wolf wasn't trying to discourage him or anything, it was just that she cared too much about others to let anyone go through the same thing she did.
----------
Flit sighed with relief to hear that the pack would probably accept him in as a member. 'That's good news. Now all i gotta do is make the journey over there,' he thought to himself.
He heard her question and he shrugged slightly. "I will wait until the snows in the mountains clear up. I was hoping to go over to that side of the lands this summer to see if any packs had formed over there," he told her with a hint of confidence in his voice. He knew that in the summer time that the snows might be gone in the mountains. Hearing the word 'sea' made him feel happy. He always wanted to see the ocean and now was his chance to...once the moutain pass cleared.
----------
Aaka tilted her head a little bit more. Did he really want to travel all that way just to join a pack over there? What if he didn't like humans? Her daughter's pack associated almost directly with them. Hopefully he would mind that.... better to warn him about it now.
"Oh, yes, but I must tell you something. Amy... that is, my daughter... her pack associates with humans closely. Willow Pup Julie is one that we hold close and is a good friend of the family. I just thought you should know that just in case you've had a bad experience with humans or something..." Her ears drooped slightly at this thought.
It was really sad to think about those who only knew the bad humans and not the good ones... hopefully Flit liked them enough.
"Hm... are you sure the mountains will clear up?" she asked, trying her best not to sound like she was trying to distract him from the thought. Really, she wasn't attempting to keep him from joining a pack, it was just that she was worried...
----------
Flit heard the word 'humans' and his heart immediately fluttered. 'The pack was also associated with humans?!' he thought to himself. 'I never knew that wolves likes humans that much. I always thought i was the only one who was facinated by them.' He shook his head at her comment and he smiled warmly at the femme. "I've never had any experience with the human kind before, but they have always facinated me. I've always been interested with them and wanted to learn more about their habits," he told her, a bit of happiness in his voice.
her next comment made him worry. What if the mountains didn't clear? Would he have enough strength to get over the mountains and live there forever? he sighed and made up his mind. He shrugged at the femme's question as he looked away from her. "I am not sure, but I wouldn't know if I won't try. I gotta try to get over those mountains. I hope that they are clear by the time I get to them this summer," he told her with a bit of confidence in his voice.
He pricked his ears up slightly as he gazed at the mountains. It would take some time for him to get there, so he decided that today was the day to start his journey. "I am sorry to just eat and run, but if I am going to pursue my path to get to the pack, I have got to start it today. I hope that you find your mate one day and come back to the pack you once called home. Farewell and Stn'uh d'oog-good hunting!" he said to her with pride in his voice. He used the phrase that Phib had taught him, hoping that it might give the femme some confidence to continue her search for her mate. carefully, he began to walk away from the femme towards the mountains, his tail held high in the air.
