I think Corey is to his full potential behind the mask. I mean... Slipknot are my life, I love them wayy too much. I like Stone Sour, but Slipknot just so kick their asses!
Is it just me, or does anyone else wish he would try a little more with Slipknot? God! I cannae wait till their comeback gig this year. : D I'll be proper ACE!
(Also, just a side note : Corey Taylor does have the sexiest voice ever!)

I was never impressed with Slipknot's work until Vol. 3: the Subliminal Verses. It was a pretty strong foot to start a new career path with, as the album explored far more than most nu-metal groups do. I don't know if I'd really call myself a Slipknot fan, but if they continue on their current track, I very well may be in the coming years.

Both have their own advanges, Slipknot are known for the crazy tribal drums along with powerful full drum sets, ranging guitars and as well as more screaming featured in stone sour. Stone sour showcases that rock vibe as well as a softness from corey taylor. I seen Stone sour live and corey very much has his crazy a** swearing, i don't give a flying ******** persona...as well as the best head bang i've ever seen as well as giving a Driving acoustic performance. He can sing until his lungs give out. Both are great in their own ways.

Personally, I prefer KoRn in terms of Nu-metal groups... then again, there are few Nu-metal groups I know outside of KoRn sweatdrop
But I guess one of the reasons why I'm not too fond of Slipknot is because I hear too damn much about it - can't go one day without seeing at least five kids in my school wearing a merchandised T-shirt or beanie. I'm not too sure if they have deserved this massive following... it's almost like Myspace's popularity. Stone Sour I've never heard of. I'll probably look them up sometime.

The Subliminal Verses was good, but by far not their best album. In Iowa they really go at hard, and it puts them up just one more level. But the best is their Live album. Mainly because Joey wasn't afraid to do different things. There are a few extra drumming bits in there and he really went out of his way.
As for softness, there is a subtle amount entwined within the heavyness. Good examples are Vermillion (both parts) and The Nameless, amoungst others. Corey can change the softness in his voice on many different levels, it may be hard to pick out in some places. But it's definatly there.
Although they are my favourite band, I'll admit that they haven't done much outside playing music. Other bands will try to make endless contact with fans, and make them feel as appreciated as possible. Slipknot dont do that so much. But after all - they are only a metal band and it's the music that counts. Their style appeals to such a wide fan base, whether it be for lyrics, the rhythem, or even if they're singing just how you feel.
Plus, it's always nice to be known as a maggot. : ]

I very much prefer Slipknot to Stone Sour.
I borrowed a mix of Stone Sour's material from my best friend and just couldn't get into it.
Slipknot's older stuff is really good for letting off some steam, but I'm with Gil. Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses is the work by them that really impressed me.
The general construction and sound of their earlier works is all fairly the same. Vol. 3 really stands out amongst their works and shows their ability to be more than just loud. The addition of some accoustic tracks showed a softer side to the guys and eliminated the pigeon holes that had been pecked into their name. It really added a dynamic nature to their musical abilites.

I have to agree, a lot of people disliked it because they felt it was just not them. But i disagree because i felt it was progression as a band, exploring instrumentation, lyrics, softer vocals different arrangments making something that constructed more like a rock opera then anything else. It showcased them as musicians...being unpredictable, vermillion part 2 blew me away, I never thought they were capable of being soft, and corey and joey sounded ...torn, it was a painful vocals...and that shows a true artist. (joey did backing vocals by the way). Corey Taylor can sing his ******** brains out, I was capelled and amazed when i see him in concert with stone sour, his tone, timbre, well placed and i heard next to no mistakes. And he knows how to scream properly, which is properly why you hardly ever hear him with a strained voice. Anyways back to Vol. 3, brillant record, i love all slipknots works but vol.3 just plain stands out, and i think a band needs those dynamics of loud and violent to soft and pained. They delievered just that.

I am allowed to disagree with you, and I do have a reason, I simply didn't state it.
I disagree with you because 1) Come Whatever May was excellent and 2) Slipknot are my favourite band, so obviously I'm going to resent the fact that you said one of their albums let you down.
So nerr.

So nerr. Sure, you're allowed to disagree with her point of view; however, it's fairly childish the way you presented the fact that you disagree with it.
