Mwana lay on her belly beneath a tree, her gray-blue fur splattered in the shadows of the leaves above. At the first chance for a rest she had taken it, for she was rather unused to the hard pace the large male set. Her sisters and she had usually moved along slowly, perhaps because they were all Ladies and Ladies did not rush about...that or because they were often tired, hungry, or cold due to not being raised to travel in the slightest. A small, delicate frown tickled her mouth as her silver eyes stared out at the blades of grass before her.

She hated to admit it, but she was a little homesick. Her decision had been made rashly out of anger, even if she was able to label it with logic. And now she was missing Mbweha, no matter how bossy, and Mava, no matter how sick. But she couldn't go back, she wouldn't. What did she have except her pride? No, she'd see if this choice could actually get her anywhere. She hoped ever so much it would.

She lifted her head slightly as she saw a form int he distance. Trigger had gone off hunting...though she hadn't been expecting him back so soon. It was still rather surprising when he chose to do responde so quickly. She sat up, schooling her expression. She couldn't quite see what he had yet, but she was sure it was going to be better then she could have done on her own.

Trigger flicked his tails as the scent of blood kept coming to him, engulfing him in its scent. The carcasses on his back were bleeding all over him again. The blood was gonna stick to his fur where he can't reach. Such a pain. Mwana and Trigger had travelled quite far in the last night or so. He knew he was pushing her, but it was her choice to follow him after all. She can't be some weak female to be walked all over, she had to be able to stand on her own. After all, it was even dangerous to be around him. He could go into a sudden berserk and thrash without anything to calm him and she would be in danger and everything else. With a heavy sigh, he thought he had brought her into the worst situation in her life.

Looking up, he could see that Mwana had awoken, well, that saved him the time to wake her up. He quickened his pace more. He wasn't hungry, this food was for her. She had to eat. As he approached, he smirked and tossed the bodies onto the ground before him.

"There you go, two fresh kills. All for you."

He said. There was that part of him that was still annoyed with the way she was. Sure, the male didn't know anything about her, but what he learned from their conversation with her sister, he had learned some things. After all, she was one of those proper types, Mbweha acted like one, she was probably too. He'd have to break some of that off of her if she is to ever survive on her own. Looking around, Trigger saw the river that flowed through the area. Good, a place for a good bath. His green eyes turned back to her and he left out a huff.

"Eat up. I'm going to go get cleaned off."

With that, he got to his feet again and started down river. Easing his body down, he reached a paw into the water, letting water splash onto his back and slowly cleaned his back of the blood that stained it.

"Ohhh...very impressive," Mwana purred at his catch, nodding her head in his direction, smiling, "Thank you." Once he was at the water's edge she let her face fall back to its weary frown. In reality, she was more tired then hungry. She had never been a big eater to begin with, and her mood didn't improve things at all. She reluctantly settled down and began to pull appart at the meat, though it felt like tastelss mush in her mouth. But she wasn't stupid. He was going to push her and push her and she needed the energy. Though honestly, if he tried to rush her away within the next few minutes she might give him a nice trashing with her tongue, or try too. She just wasn't up for it right this second.

He moved his paws over his back, over muscles and fur, getting the red stains out of his fur. Pulling it back, he could see the splatters of red on his white paw bottoms. Maybe carrying them on his back was never the smartest idea. Though he could carry more, there was always a mess on his back and there was always that spot in the middle that he can never reach. Sort of irritated him that he couldn't but it is understandable. Trigger detested the water, but there was a way to get it off, but it included him dunking his entire body in. forget it. turning back, he headed back up the ways to the tree and Mwana.

He had nothing better to do now with this female around. He couldn't just leave with a half-starved lioness bound to get tired again later. He might as well wait. Now...what do males do with females when they are bored....besides that. Looking back at her, he frowned a bit. She was too.

"Mwana....now that we are travelling together....what do we do? TO be honest, I've never been with anyone else before. Well, not a female." a lie, he had met many females. Though, she didn't need to know that sort of thing. She'd probably run off if she knew of his old 'job'.

"...so, how did your sisters get under that tree anyways?"

When he returned she let her posture straighten and her face calm a little. Remorse was worthless-she would not admit she had been wrong when she didn't believe she was, even if it meant missing her sisters. She licked her mouth clear of blood, letting her silver gaze shift from the carcaus to the male nearby. "Do...? That really depends, I suppose...there are a number of things..." She rolled her shoulders in a delicate shrug, though really talking about this bit rubbed her the wrong way. The injustice of it! "My sisters and I were princesses of our pride. Sadly...the pride came to hard times and our father fell from power, leaving us completely on our own," to the untrained ear her voice would be calm and indifferent, but to those who listened closely it was obvious there was a slight edge of her voice. She, along with her sisters, had been wronged beyond reason in her obvious opinion.

"A princess, huh? Well, out here, you are like me, you are just like everyone else. You are a rogue. Rogues don't get special treatment like those who live the high life. You better get used to it."

He said coldly, not entirely caring if she felt hurt or not. But his words were true, out here, Rogues were like everyone else, they had no good life. Never. They just took what they got and lived with what they found. Trigger had lived that life for a long time. He had to hunt on his own and just get by. Actually, he quite enjoyed the free life. Then again the only experience he had with a pride was as a slave. Would he give a pride another chance? No...he could not afford to go through what he did again. Even the thought sometimes brought out his rage. No one could get him to get into a pride, no one has ever tried. Then again...he was a Firekin, an intimidating, massive lion, no one would come near him. Mwana was one of the few that ever stuck around him this long. His bloodline was a curse sometimes.

"But you are with me....I said I would take you to somewhere safe," he rubbed the back of his neck, not entirely believing what he is saying. "Until then, I guess I am the one who's gonna be huntin' for ya, huh..."

"That's not the point!" Mwana snapped irratably. Why was it always like this? It was obvious a rogue, who had never known anything but the hardships of this life and accepted it, could understand her troubles! She had been born with the right of being higher, better, and more cultured then others. It wasn't fair that she should be classified as a common rogue, for it was not what she deserved! She did not belong in such a catigory! But how could he every understand? He was too simply minded, obviously!

She scowled unhappily, biting her tongue from lashing out any worse then she had, though her emotions were apparent. She did her best to control them, for her own well being, but she had always been the most emotional of her sisters. "But...for that I am grateful, thank you," she murmured, though she still seemed utterly discontent. This had not been a conversation she had wished to discuss with anyone, let alone this random rogue she was forcing herself to try and get along with.

"Then what is the point then, Mwana? You obviously never experienced a life on your own before except after your fall from your pride. Sure I could understand the transition, but hey, just deal with it. If you keep living like you are the better one, the better one off, most would ignore you and leave you alone. However, I am sure you will grow out of it. Sort of reminds me of a stubborn little cub thinking she is a princess and deserves to be treated as such."

He smirked and looked away from her. He wondered what it would be like if he was in her situation. A lion from high ranks, nobility, royalty even and then to suddenly lose it all. He would have kept his rank too, thinking, acting, pretending to carry that rank around as if he still had it. But it would get dull eventually and he would then wind up just as he is now. A rogue with nothing but his body, his name, his past, and whatever he could find. Looking down he looked back at her. She was changing at a much slower rate if this is how she still is after losing her pride.

He knew he had to remain calm as possible. He didn't see Ashki, Ani, or his half-brother anywhere so....that would be a problem if he went berserk for whatever reason. He almost growled at her irratble snape but surpressed it down not wanting to harm a female he said he would protect. He wasn't that sort of hypocrit. Trigger looked to her and turned away.

"I never had that sort of life. I was born into slavery and was raised harshly as a Firekin. I guess my blood carried the temper of the pride's lions as I often times feel a strong urge to cause pain and leave ruin for no particular reason. If it weren't for being half Firekin and half Pride lander....I dunno what'd I'd be then," he looked into her eyes, much more seriously this time. "Mwana, for your own safety and my own. Do not cross me in anyways."

After the first couple of words that came from his mouth Mwana began to ignore him. She was still able to keep face like she was listening, an art easily behad in a princess raised for politics and such. Simple rouges could never understand. What had they to be taken from them? Nothing, so they couldn't possibly comprehend what she lost and what she rightfully deserved.

When he started talking about being born into slavery she turned her hearing back on again, in a sense. It took all her control not to flitch at him being a former slave. How lowly! She fought disgust off, since she still needed his assistance. But as soon as he was able to bring her somewhere where she could get back on her feet and rise in ranks she'd leave him be.

And him...saying not to cross him! And he thought SHE was arrogent! "I don't make attempts to anger people on purpose, that is rather pointless," she said in reply. That was her round about way of saying she wouldn't try to anger him, though she was angry herself. Hopefully her temper would hold. In her sister's opinions she would have be considered having a tantrum already. But on a normal lions standards she was still fairly composed...in a way.

Trigger looked away.

"Mwana, have you ever killed anyone before...?" he asked calmly, not wanting to look at her. Looking down he felt horrid but it still stirred the thoughts of his father. That damned monster.....

Turning back to her, he narrowed his eyes. "If you cross me, I won't be able to stop myself and if you are not wise to fight me off or try to escape. Consider yourself dead." he warned. Trig knew this and did his best to avoid the topic of Dumiku. Ani knew it very well being his only closest and oldest friend. Ashki knew it and kept him occupied with his work. He knew when the feeling stirred in him, his pupils would become thinner, his face would always be plastered with a scowl, a loud growl, his claws extended....a frightening sight to behold before he comes rampaging.

"Mwana....what I am trying to say is...I don't want you hurt. I....nevermind. What am I saying, by the time we find a safe place to stay, you are gonna go off with some male and be happy together. Then again that doesn't sound all that bad. Tell you the truth, I've done quite well on my own because I've never been together with anyone for a long time..."

"Don't worry so much about me," Mwana said simply. "I may be a lady, but I'm not stupid or completely helpless. Perhaps Mbweha might've been useless in such a situation, but I'm not a complete and utter lump." She let out a small breath, her tail twitching. "I'm sorry you don't care for my company. I promise I won't prolong the stay beyond necessity," she added with a little more tolerance and normalancy in her voice. It had been so long since she had to deal with someone she couldn't squwak at and whine too. It was tiring, holding herself together so. And she still felt homesick. She wasn't in a mood to argue.

She went back to eating, her silent consent that she wouldn't waste his time sitting here. She'd never say such a thing, since it was demeaning, but one would be surprised what exaughstion did to one's flexability.

"I've never said I didn't care for you----r company, Mwana. If I didn't then I would have dumped you at the first tree." He took a deep breath and looked away again. She seemed so set on being a lady and that she was so perfect. Now he was thinking if it was wise to take her away....he watched her carefully and over her body.

"We can rest here until the sun sets if you like, Mwana...I mean, we aren't really in a rush are we?" he added trying to be 'polite'. He was new at the idea of it and well...it was rather hard. He placed a paw over the other. "And if there is anything you'd like to talk about....I'm willing to listen."

Mwana licked her maw clean again, eyeing him with thought. Dump her in the first tree? Well she certainly wouldn't let him do that anyway. She wanted him to take her somewhere worth while, not somewhere useless. "No, no rush that I know," she agreed carefully. Her certainly hadn't been polite to her before, so she wasn't so sure she trusted his manners. But if he wanted to offer to rest, she'd take the offer and he'd have no use complaining!

She settled back on her haunches, glancing off at the sky idly. "Do you have any siblings, Trigger?" she asked. She wasn't sure why she did it. Perhaps she just wanted to hear him say 'No' so she'd have another reason to not listen to any word he said, using the excuse that he couldn't possibly relate.

"I know of one, but there is three I think. A lion I had met not too long ago shared the same mother as my own. So I guess we were half-brothers. He told me he had his own brother and then there was another half-brother on his side....Confusing but I guess the answer is yes."

He replied softly, rolling onto his side. Actually, he was rather glad that she agreed to rest. Frankly, he had not eaten since they had left the river, he had given all his food for this female to feed on and to keep going. Though, she did not need to know that.

"Hey, if I were to suddenly collapse....what would you do?"

"I see," Mwana murmured. Hmmph. Well, brothers weren't the same as sisters right? He couldn't possibly relate properly, especially with the way her sisters were. Thinking about it just made her feel worse. Maybe if he kept talking she wouldn't think about it so much. "What was he like?" she had mild interest in her voice. She wanted to be distracted.

She frowned at his last question, looking disapproving, "I'd wonder what in the world a strong man like you would have done to let himself go like that." Her answer was only half serious, as was her tone. She didn't really know what she'd do if he really did. Probably whine and squwak and help him out with as much complaining as she could muster.
