The blue on black filly made her way through the forest, taking extra care to avoid any dangerously-placed foliage or low-hanging branches. She paused for a moment to shake the snow off her hooves before continuing. She snorted in annoyance, her breath forming a misty puff. Normally, the foal liked snow - its aesthetic value was something she could appreciate, but she loathed how it left tracks; she fervently hoped it wouldn't attract unwanted attention from creatures too curious for their own good.
After awhile of walking, and a short struggle with a thicket of shrubbery and branches heavy with snow, she came to a clearing. Her clearing. Though she was just a foal, her parents gave her enough time to wander, and she had already marked out her favourite places. It was a quiet place, a place where the trees and shrubbery thinned next to a lively, bubbling creek, shallow enough for her to walk through if she was careful, even while being rather small. The clearing was spacious enough on either side for her to move and graze as much as she would like, being a rather inactive foal. At the same time it was tight enough to be snug, and unlikely enough for a stranger to come across it by coincidence.
The filly settled down near the creek to rest her legs after the trek through the woods, stretching and taking a moment to immerse herself in the peace that simple solitude brought.

Being chased by one of her bird buddies, a dark tealish filly runs through the forest laughing happily and she leaps over a small fallen log. Her long spindly legs pumps more faster and the blue jay swoops down, tugging playfully at Izzie's mane. That action elicted a gleeful laughter from Isabella as the small game contiunes for few minutes. She aruptly stops in front of the tree where her mother told her that is cut-off point of her playground, she peers curiously past the tree. She could see some heavy foliage and the sound of the stream but she squints her eyes when she sees movement among the foliage.
Isabella turns her head behind her curiously to make sure Frosta is not around before she hurriedly slips behind the 'cut off' point and slowly slips toward the small clearing, not knowing where she is going. Her tail swishes back and forth as she expertly bounds through the snow, following the now new sound of the bubbling stream. She circles around the small clearing without knowing that its there, she stands in front of the stream and paws at the ice cold water. Izzie leans down and took a quick drink before she spots a movement from another foal sitting near the creek and her eyes went wide. "Hi there!" Isabella calls out to the filly as she walks over to another foal slowly.

Faint sounds of laughter seemed impossible to the filly. Nothing ever came here. Nothing would find her. But the sanctuary was broken as soon as a new voice resounded in her ears. A moment of silence passed before the filly realized she wasn't dreaming--someone really did intrude on her secret place! A jerky turn of the head towards the origin of the sound indicated the slight piqued state of the filly.
"Hello?" she questioned, wondering what sort of abomination nature's course brought to her today. As if her family's peculiarities in life weren't enough to sadden the poor little filly. She got up, unsure of whether it'd be polite to or not. Then again, it was just another young one like herself--and as she looked at the stranger, she saw that the other foal looked much like... herself. How strange. And pretty... though she reminded her of snow, which turned her off a bit.
"What are you doing here?.. How did you get here?.." were her first questions and thought pattern that came with the surprise of the invasion.

Isabella's very pale silver eyes looks at other filly with curiousity shining in her eyes. She haven't met any fillies except for her sister so she is very curious about what this filly will do or say. She prances little bit closer to a filly with a wide smile on her face, her only intention is to make friends with her. But that smile fades away when she sees the look on other filly's expression and her ears droops slightly at the questions. She is not sure what she did wrong. "I was just exploring.. I followed the sound of the stream." She says in curious voice when she steps backward. "But I can turn around and leave, pretend that I didn't find this place." She says in almost hurt voice.
It was not her intention to invade someone else's area and she is always quick to rectify her mistake by apologizing and leaving. There is something about this filly that holds her interest, perhaps its coloring of this filly. Isabella stands back and waits for the filly's response, hoping that she will be allowed to stay and get to know her. She tries her best not to look too hopeful as her eyes follows a blue jay when it flies from one tree to other.

The filly took the time to consider the stranger's feelings after noticing the sudden withdrawal. Her eyes met for a brief moment until the exchange was broken off by the appearance of the bird. A sigh escaped as a barely visible smile formed on her face, which disappeared almost as soon as it came. "So sorry... Stay here, don't leave." She felt as if she was coaxing the other as the words came out, "No one has ever been here before... That is why I was... confused." Confused. Yes, that was the word.
"I'm Lenore," she spoke in a soft, disdainful voice, as if she regretted being born and named. Silent hooves carried her over to the creek as elegant neck propelled her face just above the water's surface, never making contact. A sniff came before she withdrew and turned back to the other filly. "The water is too cold here to enjoy it..."
She had never been a good conversationalist due to her forlorn and bleak personality. Then again, it wasn't going to hurt if she made a friend, was it?

Isabella's eyes follows the blue jay until it disappears into the foliage, she reculantly turns her head toward the filly not sure what to say or do. She smiles slightly at the filly and she leans her head down to the ground, nipping at the grass. "Oh... I will stay but I want you to tell me leave if you want to be alone." She looks up at other filly and flashes her a friendly smile. She is still confused abou the filly's confusion but decided not to inquire more about that so she just went back to nipping at the grass.
Izzie tries not to blink as she hears the soft disdainful voice coming from the filly that calls herself Lenore, she really like the name Lenore but evidently other filly didn't. "It is a very beautiful name, Lenore. I am Isabella but you can call me Izzie or Izzy." She introduces herself before she blinks at Lenore blankly when she commented on the water being too cold to enjoy. "I would have to disagree..." She moves toward the water and buries her muzzle in the cold water, sighing contently. After a minute of drinking, she raises her head up looking at Lenore with water dripping off her muzzle. "I think its because I was born in the mountains and I am quite used to this kind of water." She conversationally says while she watches other filly curiously wondering if she is all right.

A pause seemed to lapse before Lenore could get her response. It seemed like something more pleasurable was diverting the other filly's attention -- with this assumption, Lenore's ears drooped as she lowered her eyes. Other things, obviously, were of more important nature than herself. Oh, but she'll stay... she repeated in her mind. "I will only be alone if you want me to..." she mumbled, "But you have been the only one... The only one here. It's always been so... quiet." Eyes fluttered to the other as a chance of redemption presented itself in the form of name recognition.
"Isabella," Lenore intoned in a way that was quite the opposite of the usual melancholy-filled voice she spoke in. "The sound of your name, not your short names... It is nice," a compliment somehow found its way out of Lenore. But as the disagreement came, the sad foal's world came crashing down on her.
"Oh! Of course you disagree with me, of course... Yes, everything disagrees with me..." she said matter-of-factly before shaking her head at Isabella's content drinking. As soon as Isabella was done and looking straight into Lenore's face, a pining for being satisfied with water just like the filly in front of her swelled within. "Lucky you," she sulked. "If only I was like you. The mountains, the love of water, how pleasant! If only I found it pleasant..." A sigh came out as she strived for something more to say. "Where are your parents?.. Brothers or sisters..? Mine have all left, all gone. Sister's gone strange after she learned how to talk..."
Lenore did not notice her transition into mumbling after mentioning family.

Isabella turns her head toward Lenore just in time to see the drooping of the ears and eyes, the mask of concern replaces her pleasant expression. "Oh... so nobody really came around and talk to you, Lenore?" she inquires another foal as she slowly steps closer to the filly, suddenly feeling sorry for Lenore. Lenore seemed to be so lonely.. Isabella muses to herself as she watches other filly with keen curiousity and sympathy.
The dark tealish filly beams widely at Lenore. "Thank you! My mama named me Isabella but other soquilis likes to call me Izzie or Izzy. Only my mama and perhaps you calls me Isabella." She beams more as she paws at the snow wistfully, wanting to drop to the ground and roll around in the delightfully cold snow.
Isabella blinks in confusion at Lenore. "I didn't say I disagree with you, Lenore. One to their own preferences actually. But there is a hot spring near here if you want warm or cool water." She suggests to the filly before she suddenly stretches her body out, shaking her head. "My parents are in the mountains right now but my mama might come down to get me soon. My sister is with her papa. My older brothers and sister.. I don't know where they all are.." She cocks her head to side as she couldn't make out some words since Lenore mumbles some of those words. "Uh?"

Isabella's voice seemed to swell with pity--pity that Lenore did not find comforting. It wasn't loneliness she felt--or she thought it wasn't, at least. It was just that everything in the world seemed to cause some sort of sadness in her, but the origins of the feelings were unknown.
"I think... this is one of the longest talks I have ever been in." She widened her eyes, then, catching Isabella's vision, "Not that I like to talk, but it is...nice to try something new."
Her eyes then glanced to the snow at Isabella's hooves. The imprints she had made by pushing the snow around interested her, though the negative thoughts of the frigid cold frost associated with snow lingered.
She shrugged off Isabella's denial and continued, "Warm spring..? That sounds sweet, but your mother... you are not supposed to be here? Oh, you have a small knowing of your family as well." Something at last, she supposed, was found in common between the two. "If it is okay, I would like to see this warm thing. It would be better than being around the white cold all the time." She swung her head around and walked in a semi-circle, provoking Isabella to lead her. "But if your mother is coming soon..."

Isabella smiles widely at Lenore. "Maybe you can be my friend and we can do new things together." She suggests hopefully, she would love to be this filly's friend and play with her. For now, she is going to take her time and get to know Lenore, let another filly take a lead. She stretches her body out to the point where her stomach was actually touching the snow. "Ahh..." She sighs in relief.
"Oh my mama said that its all right for me to explore as long as I come back before the sun goes down." She explains, carefully to leave out the part about the boundaries her mother placed around the place. "Yeah.. I don't really know my papa or older siblings but thats fine because I still have my mama and Glacier.. which is my slightly older sister." She nods determinedly but she couldn't help but to wonder about her older siblings and her father. "Anyway! Its 5 minute walk from here... " She smiles at Lenore as she starts walking in the south direction since she could see that Lenore is curious. "There is like one huge hole in the ground that is filled with hot water.. and group of small pools around it. It is very good place to escape the cold, snow and whatever." She explains to Lenore about the hot springs.

"Friend..." The word echoed in her mind. One would suppose a young filly like Lenore would have had many friends, having explored the ends of the terrain with the standard high energy an average foal contained. But no, the filly was shy to meet the new, unwilling to seek others, and hidden by her own doing. A smile had quickly crept up Lenore's face, but vanished as soon as it had come.
She wanted to ask Isabella whether she was really sure about the friend part, but then decided against it--Isabella could've changed her mind or something. But Lenore's mood somewhat brightened when Isabella confirmed that the two could travel freely.
"Could we then go there fast, now? In case the sun goes down sooner than it usually does..." Lenore looked back at the sun and squinted. It was just barely visible, hidden by a few clouds, but the rest of the sky told her that it was sometime around the middle of the day. She may even have to leave Isabella a bit early to share food with her uncle and herd...
As Lenore began to follow Isabella, she took in the words and began to fret about her own family, and whether she should explain about her connections to them. "...You've got a mother and older sister to talk to," she said quietly. "Well, my mother comes around not a lot of times... I don't think she even remembers that I'm there sometimes when I see her. And I see even less of father... Well, I don't really see him at all. And my sister I don't know at all either, because I've only seen her when we just came out of baskets. She seems a little off to me... I live with my uncle, who is out a lot," Lenore murmured sadly, unaware that her type of conversation may make Isabella uncomfortable. "Oh, and my grandma, I guess she is nice..."
"Anyways, my sister has wings, so I guess she doesn't have time to come to me while she learns how to use them... Grandma and uncle have them too, now that I think... Ah, the springs should be nice, though." Lenore looked around the scenery intently, as if a pool of warm water was about to pop out of nowhere at any given moment. However, after she realized the two had only begun their journey, she asked, "But if we go in warm water and come out, will it still be cold?"

Isabella's face virtually lit up as she saw an exclusive smile on Lenore's face but it disappeared. But it was just enough to encourage her to make friends with Lenore and stay her friends forever as the filly bounces from one side to other excitedly with her small tail wagging happily. "I like the smile you just showed me.. I want to see that smile more often, Lenore.. we are friends are we?" She beams at the filly happily.
Her eyes went wide as she looks at the filly before she bobs her head quickly. "Yes, yes of course! Lets go! Want to race?" Izzie excitedly says as she moves few steps ahead of Lenore with a grin on her face. She is very excited that she met someone and made friends with that filly all in the same day. Izzie slows down as Lenore began to speak about her own family and she turns around with a slight frown on her face. "You still have a family that love and cares about you.. they just need to learn how to express that freely." Izzie says in a reassuring manner. A dazzling smile suddenly breaks out on her face. "Why don't you be my 'adopted' sister? we can be family together! we can play together and do all of that stuff together." She excitedly says.
"Um....." Izzie muses as she leads Lenore toward the springs as she glances over her shoulder at her friend. "I.. am not sure." She gave Lenore a blank look before she cocks her head to side. "I think it will feel cold when you get out..." She thoughtfully says as she purses her lips. "Why don't I test it before you get in?"

Though Isabella's jubilant and excited nature brightened up the mood, it was not enough to arouse even Lenore. Perhaps in the future, if she were exposed to more of it... but for now, Lenore remained in her usual depressive state.
She was surprised when Isabella mentioned her smiling. She didn't even catch it herself -- did she truly smile? Surely she would have felt a great change in her body... But for now, she replied, "It would be... wonderful to have a friend like you, Isabella." And though her exterior did now show it, her heart jumped in great joy.
"And, what did you say? A...race?" Lenore pondered. It wasn't a term she was familiar with, but still somewhat vaguely familiar... "What is that?" she asked. While wondering what a "race" could possibly be--perhaps something of the fun nature which she never really experienced--she shook her head at Isabella's words and said matter-of-factly, "I am sure they care about me as they would for someone who shares the same blood as them, but..." Lenore had trailed off, marking the topic with scorn; she did not seem to want to go further on in discussing her family.
She tilted her head and thought deeply, a tinge of excitement flooding her veins, though she was unaware of it. "Another sister... but what will your parents and siblings say?" she thought aloud. "I must think, surely, but I am, how you say... very happy that I have a friend." Lenore looked at Isabella with tons of gratitude in her heart. "And I will go in with you, if that's okay," she confirmed. "It will not matter if it is a bit cold when we get out, as long as we do it together? I mean, if it is cold, we can use each other for warmth, I guess. We are here now?" She glanced around, expecting something short of a sun to burst out from the ground.
