The water flowed blissfully, brushing off the rocks, pulling pebbles along with it. Small furry fingers lowered into the water, dodging the little bits of ice that hadn't melted, through the decorative curling bars, the other hand clutched on to a bar. The deep blue eyes stared at the water with such intensity, before the quickly flickered shut with a blink, and she pulled her hands from the bar, waddling back to a small table.
Mariel slumped to the floor underneath the table, sitting on the jacket she had dropped earlier, and grabbed onto her tail, pulling it around to her side. Eyes raised to that whom was seated above her, watching and waiting silently. She didn't have to wait that long, before Airaka looked over and smiled at the child. Getting to her feet, she walked around the chair, picked up the child, then put her on the chair opposite of herself.
Tilting her head, the child looked around the area from her new position. The new height gave a new light to everything. People actually looked like people from up here. She wiggled her feet, which did not have the chance to reach the floor, much to her disappointment. She leaned forward on to the table, resting her hands on her arms, and closed her eyes. The odd winter sun felt warm on her back, touching her skin even though the long sleeved dress.
Airaka reached forward, grabbing a stray piece Mariel's grey hair. She held it between her fingers for a moment, before placing it near the others hair. Smiling, she looked over at the water, then towards the cafe. They were the only people in the outside area of the cafe. The colors forest green and white complemented the area, quite cleanly. She was quite pleased with the color choice, or at least the neatness. "Don't fall asleep now, " she muttered.

"Careful Taren don't fall in." A stern voive warned from the brow of the little ferry, as the tall silver haired guardian watched her charge dangle long clawed fingers in the water. Watching the ripples expand out from his point of contact then merge seemlessly by those created by the boat itself. The mole oy had surprising amounts of energy so hid gurdian had taken to taking him out on walks of one kind or another, today's choice being the neat winding path along the river bank, however when the child had spotted the Ferry transporting weary hikers down the river to the Cafe he really wouldn't give his gurdian much of a choice in the matter.
Taren was delighted the water was clear enough to see the few remaining fish in the deep river, the ones that remained after the rich summer. He looked up and watched as the small Cafe came more clerly into view, suddenly his mind switching rather apprutly, there were more people than he had accpected since it was so late in the year, reptreating bac from the boat side to go and hide with his guardian tugging nervousl on the sleeve of his over large fleese, far to big of him of course and the only other visable item of clothing showing beneath his large fleese was a pair of wellengtion boots on his feet.
The pair disembraked with Taren staying close to his mother's legs of course where it was safe. Another thing would serve to soon distract him however as his nose twitched excitedly with the welcoming scent of baking cakes and rich fresh coffee being brewed. Not somthing he personaly had a taste for but it smelled nice. He perked up and moved forward abit to the table that he selected. Hoping up on a seat and swinig his legs his toes just scraping along the ground.
Silen spotted Mariel however and raised a brow, another D-corp child? She smiled and nodded at the pair as she took a seat then gave the order of two lices of chocolate cake, a coffee and a orange juice to the waitress that came over. Taren's eyes lit up behind his large bottle frame glasses as he waited for the treat.

Mariel jerked up suddenly, looking around. Her eyes landed on the ferry that was passing by after dropping off a group of people. She watched as if left, then looked back at Airaka, an inquisitive look on her eyes. She needed to wait for Airaka to quit being distracted by something or another first, before she got a nod. Mariel rested her head back on her arms again, content with the response.
With the child laying on the table again, Airaka looked back at the others who had entered the area. The woman had nodded at them, though that just happened to confuse her. Did she know her? Or vice-versa? Maybe it was something completely different. She looked at the young boy with her. The long fingers, big glasses. He reminded her of something.
That was when the waitress came. A cup of tea, water, and a pair of chocolate chip cookies. Mariel raised her head, and grabbed on to the tall cup of water with both hands. As she raised the cup to her mouth, her head tilted as well. Airaka giggled as some water dribbled onto the child's cheek. Mariel placed her hands on her cheeks, not allowing the cold water to drip farther down her face.
Airaka nodded at the child, pushing a napkin forward. Mariel nearly snatched the napkin from the table, pressing it against each cheek. Then, curling it into a ball, and holding it in the palm of her hand, she dropped unsteadily from the chair. Airaka watched as the child wandered over to the garbadge can, dropping the wet garbage into the can. When she turned around, she finally noted the other pair. She eyed them for a moment, then turned away, quickly waddled back to the chair. She pulled herself onto the chair, glanced over her shoulder at the pair, then looked back to Airaka, grabbing a cookie off the table.

Silen glanced back over at the pair and the women that seemed truely confused by her aknowalgement, ah well she guessed it made sense, since Taren was older she'd had more of a chance to meet more D-corp parents and as this had happened she'd become more adaquate at picking out the childrn which were creations of the dragon labs. Ah wel if the women didn't recognise Taren for what he was it really didn't bother her that much, she pulled out a packet oflong cigrettes and placed one between her lips, fishing around in her bag for a fe moments before she maned to pull out a lighter as well and lit up inhaling sweet nicotien relief.
Taren's magnified dark brown eyes were still fixed on the door the waitress had gone through and the way which he assumed his chcolae cake would come through, that wa one thing about the mole boy he did have a horriable sweet tooth. He'd do alot of things if their was a sweet treat at the end of it.
However as waited his eyes moved briefly out to the water again, looking through the haze of smoke his adoptive mother's cigrette caused. They smelled icky but silen was always carful to smoke outside if she was close to him. But as his eyes turned back they settled on the girl, who was loking at him. He frowned and shrank back, what was so intresting about him? He watched her as she returned to her table and was a little envious to see she had cookies, he licked his lips.
He was really to shy to go over on his own and he was about to employ his gurdians help in getting the desired treats slipping to edge of the chair when the cake was put infront of him . Hmmm nevermind. He dug in without cermony, getting the sugery choclate goo all over his wiskers in the first five seconds. Silen distracted, sitting perfectly happy with a book she had pulled out of her bag, fags, coffee and a slice of choclate cae for herself, couldn't ask for better.

A few minutes after the cigarettes were lit, Airaka gave a couple coughs, and got to her feet. She placed a hand on Mariel's head for a moment, then moved off into the main cafe. Mariel watched Airaka leave, then took a big bite of the cookie. She dropped the cookie back on to the plate, and willingly fell off the chair. Landing on her knees, she used the chair to pull herself back to her feet, and steady herself.
She waddled back to the bars, and dipped her hands back in the water. The cookie crumbs left on her fingers wandered down the stream. She smiled softly, watching them vanish beyond her view. Curling her knees underneath the rest of her body, she tried to get closer to the water. She only managed to dip her fingers in further. Mariel gave a soft whimper, and looked behind her for Airaka.
Of course the woman had left, and the only people left were the other two. She looked over at them sternly for a moment, before looking back at the water. The child felt no reason to speak unless spoken to, and not to shy.

For a while there seemed to be a quite peace over the small outside area of the rive Cafe, Silen smoking and reading Taren stuffing cake into his muzzle and getting the thick filling over claws and whiskers, not that he minded contentedly licking the crumbs off . looking a little asstoished at the girl for washig them off like that, now why would you want to go do a thing like that for? Still as soon as the girl looked up and over he quickly averted his eyes, she looked so stern. He didn't like it.
Silen however looked up and spotted the girl a frown creaseing her brow slightly and she placed the novel down on the table, carful to dog ear the right page, where was the girls mother? She hadn't seen Aikaka walk into the cafe distracted by her reading, she extened her hand and bekoned to the child. "Come away from the water sweetie or your going to fall in." she advised. "where did your mother go?"
Taren watched for a moment uncounsiously edging closer to his guardian as he finished his slice of cake and watched the girl nervously as well. He was always shy around new people yet his mother had such a soft spot for children.

Mariel glanced back over her shoulder as the woman spoke. Fall in? Was that such a bad thing? Water wasn't bad now, was it? She pushed her hand back in the water, one last time, finally able to fully submerge it, before pulling her self to her feet with the help of the bars. Mariel flicked her hand in front of her, watching as droplets spewed all of the place. She stared at the before padding over to the other's table.
"Aira in..." Mariel raised a hand, pointing to the cafe. Her blue eyes turned to the cigarette, and attempted to imitate one of Airaka's coughs. Which ended with a bit of a hiccup. She placed her hands on the table top, and stood on her tip toes, so she could just look around at table level. Looking from the smokie woman, her vision transfered to the boy.
Mariel stared at him, his big hands, black skin, large glasses, and ... things on his fingers. She released herself from the table, her heels slamming back to the floor. The child staggered a couple paces bag, but was able to keep her balance. Then, as if she had not just tottered back multiple steps, she simply looked at her fingers, searching for the long white things that the boy had, that she didn't?

Silen sighed as the girl insisted on leaning even further out and splashing the water, but if there was one sh had leanred with the various kids she'd looked after they seemed to like nothing better than to get wet or muddy, somtimes both. She shook her head and picked up her book again taing another forkful of the cake.
Untill she realised the girl was actauly working over to her, she lowerd the thick volume once again and sighed when the girl coughed, was the whole world against her being able to enjoy her habbit without feeling guilty that she was condemming a small child's lungs to black charcol? Guess not, she stubbed out the cigrette and thre it in the bin. "Taren!" The mole boy had slipped under her arm and stolen more of the cake, honestly such a greedy guts,He smiled that ever so charming little smile at her and setttled himself on her lap to finish off the left of the cake.
He felt more comfortable in his guardian's arm as well and he could peer out at the girl from his protection of encircling arms. He saw the girl inspecting her hands and lifted up his own wriggling the long clawed fingers, he then looked at the girl and looked at her tail then down over his shoulder wriggling his own stub of tail since he was smart enough to pick up that she was comparing diffrences between them.

Mariel leaned forward, watching Taren wiggle his tail as it if were the most amazing thing in the world. She looked back over her shoulder at hers, only to find it laying on the ground. Bending over, she grabbed her tails in her paws, and held it up. Pain shot through her backside, and the tail was quickly dropped. She stared ahead at nothing, teary eyed for but a moment, before she shook her head quickly, and covered her deep blue eyes.
After a while, Mariel pulled her hands from her eyes, almost grudgingly. She watched the two quietly for a moment, a serious look on her face again. Then, she moved back towards the two. Pulling herself back up to the table, she stared at the cake the boy had been indulging in. Mariel looked back at the cookies she had left behind.
It was a game of "I've got this, you got that". If that even was a game. Mariel dropped herself from the table once again, walking over to her table. She grabbed both cookies, and waved them at the two. Then, she froze, turning her vision to the cookie with a big chunk missing from it. Mariel looked from the cookie to the boy accusingly. She then took a nibble from on of the tips of the cookie.
The sea mink walked nearer to the two, stopping a couple steps away then usually. Her feet were turned together and she waved the uneaten cookie at Taren. "Ta ta," she said, as if reprimanding him. She then took a nibble of the other tip of the bitten cookie.

Taren had stopped stuffing his face for a minute to observe the girl, she was well...odd. He didn't really know why she was addressing him in such a scolding manner, maybe she though he had taken the bite from the cookie? He didn't know but he knew what he would choose when there was the option of cake or cookie. His ears twitched then lay flat down against his head, bottle glasses almost slipping off, "I Didn't do anything." he complained piteously.
He didn't want to think that the girl might not like him. He was shy of people in general but those that he did talk to, well he enjoyed the feeling of being liked by them, or finding approval and praise. He looked up at his mother but she had gone back to reading again seeming to think the children capable of working out there own differences. She often left the mole boy in such situations wanting him to increase his social confidence.
Still now the mole child was completely baffled as to what he should do now, and he tugged uneasily at the hem of the large clothing that dwarfed his short stature. Pausing he looked at the lump of dark brown cake that remained on the plate, wanting very much to sooth any ruffled fur and not cause the girl to dislike him, because well that was just a horrible feeling he took he plat in large hands and slid off his guardians lap, edging closer to the girl he extended the plat to her.

Mariel eyed the clump of cake left on the table with her deep blue eyes. She inched forward a little bit, still an arms length away from the cake. Taking another bite of the one cookie, she looked from Taren to the cake and back to Taren. She stretched the hand with the uneaten cookie in it out to the plate, before dropping the cookie on it. Mariel then grabbed some of the cake, and took a couple steps back.
Looking back to Taren again, she tested some cake on her tongue, before opening her fist, and trying to inhale the pieces of cake into her mouth. A piece of cake got caught her her throat, and she coughed a bit, raising her hands to cover her mouth. While she had been able to keep the cookie in hands, the rest of her handful of fell to the floor at her feet. Mariel took another step back, staring at the cake on the floor. She chewed on her thumb quietly, then looked over at Taren, wondering what he would do.
Airaka had reentered the area, and sat down on her chair at the table. Mariel's eyes flicked from Taren for but a moment, to figure out who had come in. Seeing as it wasn't anyone important, Mariel had looked back to Taren, expectantly, and took another nibble of her cookie.

Silence, dead silence fell between them as the mole boy stared at the fallen cake a faint look of horror on his face. The poor cake. It could have been eaten, by him, guess not know. He liked the cookie though but felt bad for taking it if she didn't have the cake anymore. He watched the dark splodge of fallen treat for a moment longer before edging back over to his mother and slipped the cake plate with half a cake and a cookie on it back to onto the sturdy cafe table, giving his mother strict instructions to guard it.
After gaining his mothers amused agreement he walked back over to the cake staring at it for a long time still he almost physically lit up with a idea and scoped it into large clawed hands scurrying over to the side of the river, breaking it up and throwing it in. Throwing both arms out wide with a squeak of happiness, the ducks that swam so content and calm over the water moments a few moment now in a frenzy to snap up the crumbs of the cake.
Taren watched for a few moments before toddling back and picking more crumbs and clumps of cake off the cobble stones and moving back to the bank again, throwing them in, watching fascinated as the water was churned by webbed feet and long flat bills. He looked back at the girl who's name he still didn't know and motioned her over shyly having held back some of the cake in one hand he'd sometimes throw some in the water.

Mariel was intrigued. At first the boy seemed scared of the fallen cake but now he was throwing it to the ... things with yellow and feathers. She inched a couple steps forward, and crouched down, eying the ducks with apprehension. Almost did she miss Taren waving her over, but her bright eyes caught him and she stumbled to her feet. After half a minute of flailing on her toddler feet, she was able to make her way beside him, standing beside him at the railing. At first she curled her fingers around the bar, watching the ducks a while longer, before she reached out and grabbed some cake from Taren's hands.
She pushed her hand out through the bars, and looked back at Taren before she released it. As soon as the crumbs left her fingers, she jumped back, stumbled and landed on her bum. She didn't seem to care, though, she just watched the ducks snap at the crumbs. Mariel gave a bit of a giggle, amused by the creatures. She crawled back to the railing, grabbing on to some bars again. As she stretched out a hand, attempting to pet a duck, but the bird swam away quickly. A flustered look came to her eyes, and she pulled her hands back her lap. She glared quietly at the drunk, before looking innocently up at Taren.
"Ne?" she questioned. It wasn't really a question, she realized afterwards. Her soft voice had been trying to coax information of some sort from the boy though. She tapped her hand on her thigh twice then pointed to the ducks, "What are ..." she fell silent then tried again, "Do they names?" Mariel had been trying to figure out the quickest way to ask her question without talking to much. She believed she failed, but that was alright. He would answer her question right?

Taren watched the girl with amusement, she was very silly, fancy being afraid of a duck, why they wern't very big at all, dogs and thing he could understand and other people...well they were the scariest of all. But this girl seemed alright, she liked sweet things even if she had dropped the cake which still made him huff a little in annoyance but there was little he could do, besides the ducks liked them.
But he was snapped back to reality as the girl reached towards him, and he shrank away a little from the touch till he realized that she only wanted some of the cake from his hands. She only wanted to feed the ducks to, well that was alright then, he flushed feeling a little bad, so when she feel the question sprung to his lips straight away. "Are you alrights?" he asked her, peering over at her till she came up with the question...She didn't know what ducks where? He giggled a little, how silly. And of course with childish logic that one develops he just assumed that he had always known what they were. Naturally.
"They a...a..rres called Ducks." he said again hovering over that awkward squeak of anoyance he manged to get it out past him lips, throwing the last of the crumbs out to the ducks he watched them snap them up, squabbling amongst themselves for the last morsels. "they like bread as well." he explained, wanting to touch those pretty soft looking feathers but knew they would just swim away.

Ducks. Mariel thought ducks were silly. With their big beaks, and their feathers, and their swimming. Silly silly silly. She watched him throw the last of the cake to the ducks. Then the ducks proceeded to fight over the cake. Silly silly silly ducks. Ducks. The name sounded weird. What kind of name was Ducks. And they all had the same name. Silly silly silly. She looked back up to Taren as he spoke about the eating habits of Ducks. Mariel pushed her lips out, she really wanted bread right now.
She watched the ducks swim downstream, and staggered to her feet, deciding she was going to follow after them. With a quick wave to Airaka, who didn't notice what she was doing (the woman had pulled some book out of somewhere and was completely immersed in it), then looked to Taren. She sent him a look that begged him to come with her, looking at him with the biggest puppy dog eyes she could manage. Mariel would rather have his company with her if she went, but if he didn't, she could hang with the ducks.
Without waiting for a for sure answer, she padded after the Ducks. She reached the end of the stone patio, and climbed on to a wooden bridge that led across the small stream. It led to a more recluse area for higher paying customers. She sat down on top of the bridge, tucking her knees underneath her, and watching the ducks swim towards her. They swam so leisurely, as if they didn't have a care in the world. Like her! It made Mariel smile.
