Okay, I wanted to try my hand at colored lineart, but I'm not entirely happy with my result. I would love some tips of what I can do to improve the look of my colored lines. I work in The GIMP, which is very similar to Photoshop
The lines were done with traditional Micron pens, and scanned in at 300 dpi. I adjusted the contrast of the lines with the 'levels' option. I colored the drawing, then made a separate layer for the colored lines. I selected the lines with the magic wand and proceeded to color them.
Was it just the colors I chose? Should I have choosen darker line colors? Also, my lines are not that smooth, even after i shrunk the image down. Is there anything I can do to smooth out the lines?

The colored lines looks nicer.Makes the pic look more alive. The colour for the lines on the lightest parts should be a little darker I think.

I really like the colored lines better than the black lines. It's more Disney-esque.
As for coloring the lines, I think it would be best to go over them digitally. If I remember correctly, the GIMP has something similar to the pen tool. (The tool where you add points and curve them as you need it.) If not, I think Inkscape - another free or really inexpensive program - should allow you to do that.
As for the color, I think darker shades for the lines on the lighter colors would be more pleasing.
