Kelello swung her paws high in a steady trot, holding her tail and chin up in pride. She felt a surge of emotions that she had not yet felt before, a tingling feeling of accomplishment. She ran through the encounters she had made that day in her mind, and above all it seemed like a normal day. There was only one difference; she had come across a thing about her size, smelling familiar, and sharing smiliar traits to her. He had called himself a 'rinse, and then there was that other word.. 'wild dog'. She had often heard this word thrown around about herself, but had always assumed it was another mocking name. Did it hold more meaning than that? Puzzled and happy at the same time, she felt she had made a great discovery today, a secret friend, from beyond these barren lands where only death, scattered about the landscape, could give her gratefulness that she was among the living.

The young puppy felt such a surge of strange emotion that she laughed. This laugh, which she was unaware was accented by her own kind, yet different in the way that it rang out in waves like the mocking laugh of a hyena, came out louder than she had expected. At once, her happy mood lifted away with the wind, and she stood motionless and ashamed in the camp, awaiting her undeniable punishment.

Mafa, as it were, was on her way back from an encounter with a rather fiesty lioness. Mafa walked away without any major injuried, all she was plagued with was a series of slightly deep gashes along her thigh, and some insignificant scratches on her nose. They didn't bother her all too much, except when she stretched the muscles on her flank to sit or something of the sort, but, they were like trophies. She had fought a lion. She had come back almost unscathed. And that she would show off.

In the midst of her contemplation, a rather butchered laugh rang through the air. It had the elements of being a hyena... And yet it was not. Curiousity piqued, Mafa turned, trotting in the direction of the yowl. When she arrived at her intended destination, she saw only Kelello. Mafa fought back the urge to laugh at her attempts. Though Mafa wasn't overly fond of the creature, she didn't hate her. The young female was coming along nicely, hell, it even seemed that she thought she was a hyena, which was brilliant. However, Mafa wasn't about to show her subtle tolerance of the wild dog just yet, she had to establish who was boss, who Kelello had to follow and respect. Walking closer, Mafa rose her head, coming to a halt, her tone cold,

"You're going to have to keep working on that laugh, Kelello, if you want to be a proper hyena that is. You do want to be a proper hyena, don't you?"

Mafa's brow furrowed. The way she put it, it made it seem like porr Kelello really didn't have a choice.

Kelello lowered her head as Mafa's shadow bathed into her coat. She wondered, looking into the hyena's dark eyes, what form of punishment danced around in her thoughts for Kelello's outburst. She quivered and pulled her head away, unable to lock eyes with the pack leader any longer.

Rather than what she had expected, her superior seemed calm. The puppy paused, soaking in her words. Slowly she turned her eyes back, sparkling with confusion, yet satisfaction. Had Mafa really called her a hyena? Never had she been adressed as a hyena, only 'the slave', or other mocking words, like 'wild dog.' So Kutu was wrong! She was a hyena. A tingle of excitement washed away her doubts and confusion.

"More than anything," she replied, bobbing her head.

The tips of her mouth quivered and settled on a proud grin. Her grin quickly vanished as she was met with Mafa's serious gaze.

Mafa advanced further, looming closer over the young wild dog. An eerie glint caught the female's eye as she nodded, raising her head high,

"Good."

With a light glare, Mafa took her gaze from the pup and looked to the graveyard. She had a plan for this little wild dog, and thankfully, she had to put in minimal effort in order to pull it off. Mafa was leaning towards a little thing called brainwashing, or so she thought it. She wanted Kelello to be a hyena. She wanted her to bend at her very will. Kelello did belong to her of course, and she was to do what she wished with what was hers. Thankfully, Kelello was making it easy, she had already started on the process on her own. Mafa liked it. With a snap of her head, Mafa's icy gaze once again focused on the pup, wondering the last time she'd seen her,

"Tell me now, what have you been up to all these weeks?"

Kelello pulled her gaze away shyly and gave a nervous wag of her tail. There were secrets within her that she herself couldn't believe, questions unasked, raw wounds and discoveries. But could Mafa know? What would she say if she learned about her strange dreams as of late, or her secret meetings with the creature that looked so alike to her? A shiver ran down the pup's spine as she imagined the consequences.

"Just wandering the territory," she finally decided on, her green eyes reflecting guilt and fear. But it wasn't exactly a lie, and for that she managed to lock eyes with the powerful hyena again.

Her mind searched for a question; anything to change the subject as quickly and painlessly as possible. As she dug inside her mind, she found many questions unanswered, little treasures yet to be seen. She wished to please Mafa and be the perfect hyena more than anything, but how when she knew so little?

A light flickered in her mind as something she had been questioning for a long while resurfaced.

"What's a wild dog?"
PostPosted: Sun Feb 25, 2007 12:11 pm

Mafa was quick to pick up any subtle signs that this young dog was eminating. To her content, one of them was fear and subordination, and that was exactly what Mafa wanted. But the the other was a sense of being unsure, and troubled. About what, Mafa hadn't a clue.

"Oh... Anything to report?"

Mafa's head rose as her dull tone piqued a bit with her question. Just aimlessly bumbling about would definitely not please the alpha, but if the dog's efforts had been at least some what productive, Mafa would be encouranged that the youth was on the right track.

Kelello's question, however, caught the alpha off guard a smidge. What exactly... Did she not know that she herself was a wild dog? Had she not seen others like herself around? Or was she so completely absorbed in the pack that she truely believed herself to be a naive hyena. Mafa's brow furrowed, trying to find an answer to her question that was true, but not directly to the point.

"A wild dog... Hmm, they are lesser beings than the hyena, for one. Smaller, scrawnier, and definitely not as smart or strong. A wild dog is good for one thing, to serve beneath hyena paws.... Now why is it that you ask?"

"Well," Kelello started, but paused.

That strange, yet familiar scent of those beings like her had caught her attention most recently. She had begun to notice it drifting in the wind from time to time, and as her attention had been pulled from her regular duties, most reportable things had gone unnoticed on patrols. She had been distracted lately. What was there to say?

"I've smelled some strange things around the territory lately," she said, "but they're probably just birds, or something." She wasn't about to mention her suspicion of those scents belonging to wild dogs, whatever they were. Mafa's description of the secret creatures left her disappointed; she could have guessed the facts given to her just by comparing herself to other hyenas. She decided not to pry further, but her eyes reflected her disappointment.

"I smell a lot of new scents on the territory every time I go on patrol. Other creatures, I think?," Kelello concluded, dipping her head. "I have a good nose - or atleast I think I do."

A far-a-way look began to shadow her face, and her enthusiasm dropped as she stared mindlessly out at the dark skies that blanketed the graveyard. "And there's something else. A feeling I have, sometimes. I can't explain it, but.. it's troubling." She slowly met Mafa's eyes again, lowering her head in subordination. "It just made me think of those other words I'm called. 'Wild dog.' That's why I asked."

Feeling intimidated for saying too much, Kelello lowered herself more and let her ears press flat against her head.

"That's all I have to report."

Mafa nodded wisely, the young wild dog was doing her best to keep busy, mostly why Mafa bothered to keep her around. Her cold eyes narrowed, wondering what she'd tell the creature when she did find she really was a wild dog, but alas, Mafa wouldn't fret with that for the time being.

"Any new smell is worth investigating, Kelello. And if you smell a lion, you come to me. You hear?"

Mafa pressed this point sternly. Kelello going after a lion would put her out of the picture permanently, she definitely didn't have the muscle to take on a beast like that. Mafa didn't want her new toy ripped up before she began her little games.

A long sigh escaped Mafa's lips as Kelello got into talking about feelings. Peh, feelings, if Mafa cared for the wild dog's emotion well being, well, she certainly wouldn't be in such a position. As Kelello's gaze met hers, Mafa's eyes narrowed harshly,

"Who called you that? Perhaps you look a little like one. You're very scrawny, and small, if you haven't noticed."

Kelello nodded sharply to Mafa's instructions. Though she'd never actually seen a lion - or atleast remembered seeing one - she knew that they were monstrous, evil creatures that should be eliminated from the Graveyard at all costs. The ways the other hyenas spoke of them could give her no less of a hint. Although she sometimes imagined what it would be like to catch one of those monsters, and the glory that would come of it, she knew she'd never actually be able to do such a thing - it would be much safer to just inform her mistress, and she'd have no problem in doing that.

As Mafa sighed, Kelello's brows drew together in confusion. Had Mafa misunderstood her seriousness?

"I get these dreams. It's weird," she elaborated.

She flinched at being called scrawny, but quickly collected herself. Small, she understood. She was small, smaller than even hyenas younger than herself, and although she'd been defendant about it at first, she'd grown to accept the fact. She was small. But scrawny? She had assumed she was proving herself better than that, acting tough and fearless in the face of immense danger, like that time when that little bird swooped a paws-length above her head.

"A few of the other hyenas around here call me that," she answered, still somewhat taken aback.

Mafa tilted her head slightly, eyes narrowed in thought. What did Kelello mean by this, dreams? It was something Mafa surely hadn't expected, her little slave having visions in her dreams, or whatever they were. Was she to be concerned, or was it a good thing, something she could use to her favor? Either way, it piqued her curiosity,

"Tell me more... About these so called dreams."

The alpha's gaze intensified as Kelello flinched ever so slightly. Maybe the pup just needed to be degraded more often, get used to the fact that she wasn't exactly an equal. Mafa assumed it was her fault, for not being tough on the creature. She had been rather civil with Kelello as of yet. Mafa had no reason to hate the wild dogs. She'd toughen the wild dog up with age, rough her up a little, show her who was boss, maybe even find a way to mark her as her own. With a huff, she lightly shook her head at Kelello, her tone stern and biting,

"Don't bother with the others, Kelello. My word is the only one you should be going by."

"Well," Kelello muttered, shifting uncomfortably. She wasn't sure how much she should tell her mistress, worried that Mafa might chastize her and call her crazy. Still, the weight of her secret had been riding on her shoulders for a while now, and it needed to come out at some point. Right?

"It's just, there are these voices, I guess. I can never tell what they're saying. And sometimes I'll just see stuff, stuff that I hadn't usually seen in dreams until recently. It's all really foggy, but sometimes I think I can see other hyenas like me, or these huge creatures with big claws, or sometimes even blood. Just blood, everywhere."

Her eyes grew wider as she spoke, and a tremor of fear shook through her as she finished. She could still see the blood, running like a meandering river through her mind's eye.

She dipped her head obediently. "Yes, you're word is the only one I should go by. And that is why I thought I might tell you about my dreams."

At the wild dog's soft voice, Mafa's ears perked with curiosity. She wasn't about to say anything just yet. Either these dreams of hers were something legitimate, or just the wild imagination of a young creature. Mafa listened intently as Kelello spoke, this was something interesting indeed. She assumed she was talking about seeing some kind of fight with lions. A war perhaps.

Mafa opened her mouth to speak, but she reconsidered. The look on her face was vacant; she was reaching into her thoughts, trying to recall something she'd overheard a long, long time ago. Some were born with a gift, the ability to see things. Things that had happened, sometimes things that would happen. Mafa's eyes snapped into focus, zeroing in fiercely on Kelello. Was this the case with her slave? Was this little wild dog... Gifted? A slow, malicious grin spread on Mafa's maw. This could be beneficial. Very much so.

"Don't fret. This is interesting, very interesting. You were right to tell me of this...Your dreams, what you see, you're to report them to me, everything you can remember. Understand?"

Kelello watched the realization spread about Mafa's face, but what it was, she had no clue. She waited patiently until Mafa spoke, and her words surprised her.

Interesting? Her dreams had been called interesting. Well, that was a much better adjective than she had been expecting. Yet, there was still something about Mafa's face, and how a grin had formed there, that sent a chill through Kelello. She felt like a piece of prey being evaluated, holding its breath before being unevidibly shred to bits.

"Yes, ma'am," she answered, before sucking in a deep breath. "Am I... I mean, is there something wrong with me?"

Mafa intently watched Kelello for a while longer, her mind tumbling over the possibilities of the pup having such visions. Could she tell her the future? Or fill in some aspects of the past? Perhaps she'd dream about the hyenas annihilating the lions. Mafa had some pretty inflated ideas of where this 'vision' could get her. It was a beautiful thing.

Mafa shook her head at Kelello's question. At least, she didn't think there was anything wrong with her. Hopefully there wasn't, the little wild dog's value has gone up by tenfold with this new information. Mafa was intent on keeping her close.

"No, nothing's wrong. Think of it as a good thing. I am pleased, Kelello, with this. Very pleased. And that doesn't happen often."

As Kelello listened to what Mafa said, it took her a moment to actually register it all. Her body tensed with uncertainty, but it was the startled look on her imploring eyes that would evitably give her away. She was being praised. Praised. Which happend... well, never. Kelello's first response was to assume the opposite; that Mafa was just playing a cruel joke on her, and really thought her some dumb pup just having silly dreams, nothing more. But it was the look on Mafa's eyes...

"Really?" she gasped, more to herself than anyone. Her eyes danced wildly as she continued to absorb what had been said. "Thank you," she finally said, dipping her head. "I will tell you of any dreams I have immediately. I hope they can help you in some way, any way at all. I try my best to please you."
