Doesn't it p*ss you off when you watch movies or play video games and they just take the 60+ years of comic book history and f**k it all up?
Like how Spidey shoots web directy from his wrists in the Spidey films? Superman gets his a** kicked by a few thugs on Warworld? Or how Doctor Doom in Fantastic Four has alloy skin and can fire eletricity?

Yea, they always bend the rules to a certain extent. Sometimes they justify it with a little revision of the story (Doom's powers coming from the radiation in the movie, for instance) but it hurts comic book readers. I mean, yes, it's all for entertainment and should be judged as a movie and not as a comic book turned into movie, but it's easier said than done.
Let me think. I am like that with video games turned into movies. I HATED Resident Evil:Apocalypse. I was really looking forward to watching Nemesis, but he wasn't even that cool in the movie.
So, watching Superman Returns, is another example. I am pretty sure Lex Luthur is not the only villain out there that has to confront Superman. That got old ten years ago.
Finally Fantastic Four was cast wrong. I would NEVER have given the role to Jessica Alba. Her acting was not good enough in my book. Best to have given it to a no name actress.
I can blarg and blarg about this for pages. I'm a girl, I have that gift. domokun

Like Famke Janssen in X-Men, she was a good choice for Jeanie, but the whole "Phoenix is a dark side of her mind" thing really ground my gears. Final Fantasy: Advent Children is an awesome example of how you can take something from one form of media and transfer it to another.

OMG! YES! In a way, I they would tiwst up the whole phoenix thing. It was a bit sad, to me, that they did that. I guess the public is not ready to have Shi' Ar Technology enter the media to try to destroy her.
Advent Children rocked. Period. YOu don't have to be a Final Fantasy fan to enjoy it.

They can't go into depth about the Shi'ar, and the world outside of NYC in case it flies way over their heads faster than Nova!

Just want to keep movies simple enough to catch the attention of non comic book fans/video game fans. It's understandable, but man. Even they know something's not right.

The thing is, when they get it wrong, it's not just like little niggly things like Spidey's MIA web shooters, it's massive stuff like the origin of the Fantastic Four and Dr Doom. Or the Hulk's past. Or some of Batman's origins. And the thing that really gets me, they suck a**! I'd rather watch Godfather 3 than most of the comic book movies produce nowadays. I like the first two Batman movies though, and the first two Superman's. Not Superman 3 though. talk2hand "kneel before Zod." LMAO!

I must agree. I was a fan of the Joker and the storyline between the Penguin and Catwoman. I can respect where Dr. Freeze comes from, but still it's a little iffy. I still think Uma Therman had something going. I wouldn't say it was the right sex appeal for the movie, but it was something.
They could have just focused on the actual origins and if they wanted to tweak certain things, then that is fine. But not major things. It just gets depressing. It doesn't take a comic book fan/video game fan to realize this. I mean, I loved x-Men 3, don't get me wrong; but I knew somethign was wrong wth it coming from an entertainment point of view and not an X-Men fan point of view.
Basically, it comes down to directors and producers having to do their homework right and using what works best. I am pretty sure that they will not get sued since a comic book company would hold some royalities over the movie.
.......and I rambled again. Sorry. sweatdrop

Some screw-ups in Marvel movies get me a little niffed. I still like them though, I think that makes me a true fan. I can understand some of the changing of the movies. With Spider-man, it would have taken a lot of time to show the scene of him making the web-shooters. It transfers to the screen better this way. We all just have to understand that things from the comic books cant transfer straight to movie, otherwise comic books fans would A. be the only ones going to the movies, and B. Every person who wasnt a comic fan in the theater would have no idea what was going on. We have to come to this fact and just enjoy the movies, not for the fact that it follows the comics, but for the fact that its a good movie. Look at it as a movie-goer.

But surely we all came into comics a novices and we had to learn all this stuff too? A little in-depth explanation wouldn't hurt, surely? I know I didn't read Spidey from the beginning but I got the whole "he doesn't fire actual web" thing pretty quickly. Don't get me wrong, I'd like the movies if there was more to them than bad acting and messed up stories, but there isn't.

I would think comic book industries would use movie companies to lure people into the comic book world and gain more readers/fans.

Movie-goers would not be entertained by small details like making web-shooters. They don't care, they just want to see Spidey kick a**...

MrLavender Movie-goers would not be entertained by small details like making web-shooters. They don't care, they just want to see Spidey kick a**... My cousin saw the Spidey movies and then started reading the comics. Every week he'd ask me "but why doesn't he just use the webs in his wrists?". That's what the movies are doing to the people who see them, they skew the basics of a character and then when they come to read the comics, they're not as good as the movies, comics aren't all action, and the movies don't have to be either. If the makers were more concerned with the fans who buy the comics, the people who have been fans of the characters long before the movies, and took note of the fact that we like them without stupid alterations and had faith in the fact that, ridiculous history alterations or not, the characters and stories have always been good enough to pull in massive crowds. Hell, Spidey alone sells enough comics worldwide to feed Africa for the next millenia, why don't they just think "hmmmm.. Stan Lee sold these guys to millions let's not go messing up a formula that's worked for 60 years". And the whole "they wouldn't be entertained" thing: they showed the designs Spidey went through to create his costume in the first movie, surely some of the massive minute and a half that they spent showing him colouring in, could've also been spent in front of some test tubes creating web fluid?

Americans want action in their movies, simple fact. Unless their into the whole love story thing. Americans have a short attention span and they need something to entertain them. I happen to think the webs from the wrists was a smart move. Spider-man takes new and different turns for every incarnation, and people like to experiment with new ways to reinvent him. I happen to like it, I like every version of Spidey. I'm a huge Marvel fan, and I'm not getting pissed off at this as much as you are.....
