So I'm not going to school tomorrow. I'm not sick. I'm not skipping. My school is cancelled tomorrow. Why? Heavy storms, probable power outages, blah blah, something or other, and a slight possibility of... snow.
...
o_o Okay, so I live in southern Texas. I've seen anything related to snow up close only four times, and actual snow only twice, and actual snow in enough abundance to build a snowman only once.
When I was little, my mom and my grandpa were truck drivers, and we were in a cold state, and there was some snow on the grass on the sides of the road. My grandpa wanted me to see snow, and since we're from Texas and I had never seen it, he had my mom pull over, and we had a "snowball fight." =D I think it was just ice or sleet or something.
And then, when I was like six or something, we had some "snow." It wasn't very much, and it wasn't real snow, it was just really cold and iced over. My sister tried to make a snowman, and it just DID NOT work. So, it wasn't really snow, but it was... Similar.
And then, when I was eight, my mom sent my sister and I to New York for a week to visit my grandmother. We hadn't really met my dad's side of the family... At all, and my mom wanted my grandmother to see how she was raising her son's children or something of the blah blah, so we visited her, and we saw REAL snow - deep enough to make tracks, abundant enough to make a snowman (which my sister did, quite successfully for a ten year old), enough to play in. And it was pretty neat. I remember once the ground was iced over, and I was just standing there being retarded, and my grandmother's springer spaniel Chelsea, who was on a winding leash outside attached to like a laundry line or something, ran at me, and the leash caught under my knees and I fell flat on my back. It was cool.
And then, about two or three years ago, it snowed where I lived on Christmas Eve. And people took notice. It was NOT enough to stick, or even turn anything fully white, but gosh darn it, IT WAS SNOW. I remember my friend's sister, who was like sixteen at the time, was running around her backyard (which is right up against ours; we're neighbors) screaming, "I'M NOT GONNA DIE A SNOW VIRGIN!!!" or something. It was really neat.
So... Basically, no school for Ju tomorrow, and it may or may not actually SNOW in Texas, only three years after a previous snow day - before three years ago, it was like fifteen years since snow in our parts.
~~AND GUESS WHATZ, PICTURES MY SISTER TOOK FROM WHEN IT SNOWED A COUPLE YEARS AGO. NOT MUCH, IS IT!?~~
