The recent play session at the water hole had done much to keep Ihlo in good spirits. She was not troubled often, except by her roving and curious eye. Everything to be seen and she wanted to see it. As much as she loved these lands, she couldn't help entertaining the idea of one day going on a trip to see other places. Just so she could say she'd seen it all.

So it was with a beautiful smile and a spring in her step that she hopped over a small stream and wandered around the pridal lands, tail stuck high in the air that peculiar fashion of hers.

Harabu was wandering. This was his home and he had all the freedom he wanted to walk where he wanted. That seemed to be fair to him at least. If his so called children were around, well they didn't need to talk to him and he didn't need to talk to them.

He found a remote spot where he laid down to rest, the best part of the day, lazing about. He could dream of the family he would have with Amani, the real family that he would have, not this so called one he refused to have.

Upon her meanderings, she spied a dark pelted lion through some of the scrub, a short distance away. Well, after meeting Rengo, she thought maybe this was a relation of his, like a big brother, or even his father. A lady must always be polite, so she padded over, pleasant expresison on her face.

But within only a few paces she stopped. And recognised the blaze of markings on the lion.

With a soured expression, she promptly turned about-face, beginning to stomp off, not subtle in the slightest. Then she stopped again, looking over her shoulder.

Why did she do that? Did she think he'd instinctively know it was her? That he'd even care? Was this a chance to actually meet him?

Several times she turned around, took a few paces, then turned around again to walk away. She just couldn't make up her mind.

Harabu yawned and started to wash at his paws, he didn't know that his daughter was near by and it was true to say that he didn't care either. He had no reason to have a realationship with children that were only suppose to be his.

He moved! But...he didn't turn around. Despite all the noise of her stomping feet and breaking twigs, she was still invisible. Maybe...maybe she could draw his attention...wait a minute! What was she thinking!? This was the male that didn't want anything to do with her! Why did she continue to lurk?

Maybe it was the curiosity for which she was named. Searching Eye. Maybe she just had to know...had to know why?

Right, if he didn't notice her this time, she'd address him point-blanc. So she began walking towards him again, almost nervous or giddy, and walked close enough past him to (hopefully) be noticed.

She was noticed. His ears flicked back as she walked past and he turned his head to look at her. He didn't say anything but just admired her for a while. He knew who she was instantly and however much he didn't like it, he had created something beautiful.

He didn't say anything as well what could he? The first time he had met them he had made it clear he wanted nothing to do with them but there was his daughter and she was stunning.

Trying to walk as though not purposefully trying to get his attention, although that was her aim, she caught him out of the corner of her eye. He'd seen her! He did know her! He hadn't forgotten, he hadn't totally disowned her!

This little seed of hope planted, maybe foolishly, by Ihlo gave her enough cause to actually come to a slow stop. Heart thumping in her chest and an all over itchy feeling from nervous sweat, she craned her head to see him. To see him properly.

It was like looking into a negative of herself. The same markings burned into her fur. The same eye. She a negative to him, the only trace of his fur colour on her tail.

What was he thinking about her? Had she gone too far to approach him? That beautiful hope that had filled her face melted into worry and guilt. She should say something! But what?

"I don't know your name," she blurted, a little unceremoniously.

He watched her and couldn't help chuckling a little. "I am Harabu. I don't believe I know what the pretty lioness in front of me is called." He spoke in this way incase she didn't know who he was but then if she did she might get offended. That could be made up later though.

His daughter was beautiful.

He seemed pleasant enough. A part of her had expected him to shun her or chase her away. But was this any better? Poor Ihlo was filled with a tumultuous churning of feelings, some pulling her one way, some tugging her the other way. At least if he had chased her, she'd know for sure...

SHUSH! This was a great chance, why should she question it!

"A pleasure," she dipped her head, not sure if she really meant those words or if they were just cursory politeness. "My name is Ihlosenka."

It was the same politeness that made her face her whole body at him now, so that he wasn't getting a shy little lioness looking over her shoulder.

Harabu smiled, "a beautiful name for a beautiful daughter." He didn't realise what he had said untill after he had said it. He was just speaking aloud his thoughts and this wasn't the best time to be doing such a thing.

He stood up, not quite sure what to do. He had always been a large lion and it wouldn't surprise him if his children ended up just as big, however it seemed somewhat odd that he had children to begin with. At least this was the daughter and not either of the sons.

'Beautiful daughter'

The words just seemed to sting in her heart a little. She was so torn, a part of her just happy to see him properly, to have him recognise her as as HIS daughter. But then the other part of her growled and snarled to know why he had avoided her for so long, why he had chosen his life of not acknowledging them. Was it even his fault? Maybe it was Ishara's? What if her mother had chosen to have him stay away?

Would she be so bold as to ask?

"Umm...thank you for your compliments..." she began to say, unsure of what else to say after that. "I guess it runs in the family...not that I'm saying your beautiful in a wierd way, I guess you'd be called handsome since you're a dad and not a mom..."

DORK! She rambled and then blushed in embarrassment. Just what did you say to an estranged father?

She was a little daunted by his size, and began to wonder, aside from eyes and markings, just how much she'd inherited from Harabu.

He smiled and laid down.

"Im sorry we could never have been a proper family, it seems things happened in strange ways and I expect if your mother had known I was here you never would have been." Thats what he believed anyway, though it may not have been.

Harabu was yet to talk about Amani, he was trying to keep his two worlds seperatly at the moment as that seemed to be the best thing at the moment.

Phew! He didn't say anything about the slip-up. Damn nerves, she'd have to get a handle on them one day, or she'll be around insulting every Tom, d**k and Harry by accident.

Harabu's statement struck Ihlo in many ways. It made her question just who was at fault for this non-existant relationship. She padded a little closer, cauitiously.

"So...it was mother who didn't want you around us?" she asked.

Harabu just smiled at her, "I don't know. It happened at a strange time, your mother seemed sad, i was confused... I only met her.. then left, not knowing anything of what had happened. The day or two after I agreed to be Amani's mate." He paused and looked at her.

"When your mother told me you were my children I didn't want to believe it... it seemed so wrong, it seemed impossible. I wanted my own children though and there you were but yet you weren't Amani's." He sighed, realising this wasn't the nicest thing to say to your daughter but it was better to be truthful.

"I don't think I could ever get on with your brothers.. but if you would let me, I would like to be a father to you." There we go, he had said it. Now if she agreed, she had to meet Amani.

Ihlo had maybe hoped too much to think that even though Harabu hadn't been around to be a father, that at least their conception into this world had had some thought behind it. But it didn't sound like that. As innocent as she was, she got the uncomfortable feeling that she and her brothers were accidents...which could partly explain Harabu's reasoning for his actions.

"Oh...so there...wasn't...any love between you and mother...?" she asked a little sheepishly.

Her face wrinkled in thought as she tried to take everything in, admitting that eventhough her father hadn't shown any love for her mother, he had found love with another. She had to admire him for that, as for a moment she began to think he was some kind of philanderer.

"...Er...m...yes, okay," she stumbled for words, taken back by his propasition. Her desire for a father had betrayed her a little in this situation. Had she said yes too quickly? No, she was too happy for this to be the wrong thing.
