Do dreams actually mean anything, or are they just a bunch of jumbled up thoughts from the day?

I think (only cuz I read a book somewhere, and dont quite remember what it said, I beleive it then) that dreams are just messed up messages of fears one has, but they're messed up so one can 'interpret' it without too much emotional distress... Depending on the dream though.
I woke up this morning with a really nasty image of an alien destroying stuff I hold dear in my head...

Dreams do not mean anything. It simply shows what happens to be on your mind, sub conciously or not.

I once died in my dream.
It was a very strange dream, I think I was thinking of suicide but it was just scary and weird..

dreams are what you make of them if youso choose to beleive that they are meiningfull or meiningless is up to you.
but dreams are just a collection of memories from your life but your mind assorts them into specific parts in a dream

a lot of the time dreams help you figure out a solution to something that you pushed to the back of your mind. other times, they're just stress relievers. it depends on the stuff in the dream though and what your day had been like....

Okay looks like I have to chime in here.

Dreams are complicated. They are, in mundane essence, the subconscious mind attempting to resolve emotional conflicts and confustions that were left open in the conscious mind. Reoccurring dreams are often found in people with cyclic emotional patterns. Pleasant dreams usually are just the expression or anxiety towards a hope. They are primarily designed to sort the unsorted emotional content. Your brain tries to do this subconsciously during most of the day. However the requirments of conscious thought inhibit this during day to day activity. The greater of a balance you have between you abstract and cognitive thought the less likely you are to recall or even have real dreams.

Now for the other side of it. Dreams can in fact be interpreted by someone with the proper ability to draw the lines between symbols and definitions. They can even in some positions be used to see forward slightly. This is usually due more to the dreamers intuition than the interpretors own insight.

A dream is a concept of the imagination, past thoughts comming back to haunt, or a subconcious thought of what may come. I could, however, be the extent of many thoughts, fussing into one memory. Studdies show that the average human has over 30 "dreams" durring a 2 hour period of REM, but the mind can only remember certain parts of each, and oputs them into one, and dismisses parts that it can not compute.....

I think that stuff that actually happened to you earlier in the day sticks in your subconscious and occasionally pops up in your dreams. It might also have something to do with the last thoughts you have before you go to bed, but you don't really have any control over them because you're on the verge of unconsciousness. There're also those theories of how things that you really want/fear are symbolized in your dreams...

For my full explanation of dreams, you can check out my site Guardians United. Basically, I believe our soul has the ability to travel through time when we dream, although it usually chooses to create its own little world. My conclusion is based on the following:

My mom had a dream about my aunt's wedding. In the end, my aunt died in a car crash. The next day, when my mom went over to help my aunt prepare, she was surprised to find that her dream was the same as what was going to happen. The dream contained everything: the dress my aunt was to wear, what door they were going out of, what cars they were taking, the ceremony, everything. My aunt freaked out when my mom told her about the dream. My aunt changed everything. Luckily, she didn't die, but I believe she would have if my mom hadn't had the dream.

i think that dreams have meaning. dreams are created by our subconscious, and that part of the mind is the truest part of anyone. it contains all of our truest thoughts, feelings, beliefs, motivations, and all the rest. of course, since the human mind is so unbelievably complicated, that means that all of those things can be put together in confusing ways. it would be really hard to interpret them correctly, especially considering that most people try their best to not see their true selves.

i think usually dreams are just a bunch of thoughts your brain gives you 'cos you couldn't actually stand sleep it was so boring but sometimes it could have some signifigance...

I think that dreams are really emotions taking form. Sometimes they are actually thought about serious things, but for the most part its really just emotions.
