Persephone stepped lightly through the snow, her movements seeming almost delicate as she made her winding way back to the cave. A small rabbit dangled from her jaws. It was a scrawny, undersized creature, but it was something. She was getting better at hunting these days, even if it was just hares and rabbits. She wasn't sure how she'd manage with a group hunt yet, but every kill was a little more practice.

As she moved, her eyes roamed the area and she kept testing the air. There had been no sign yet of Helios' companion, although Persephone had been trying to look out for her whenever she could. Maybe someone else from the pack had found her already, or she'd find Helios herself. The albino hoped so. With Helios' injury, he couldn't fend for himself, so she had been trying her best to help him. But the pack had no idea where she was, and she didn't want to worry them. They'd probably understand though.

Reaching the entrance to the cave, the small female laid the rabbit down.
"Helios? I found this.. it's not much, but it'll help. How are you feeling?"

The golden male grimaced and groaned a little as he rose to his feet. "A little better, my sweet flower." Over the few days they'd been together in this cave he had slowly taken to calling her sorts of these little pet names. "I thank you so much once again." His expression was pained but greatful as he hobbled forward to pick up the prize she had given him.

It had been a long time since Helios had hunted for himself. Usually someone would bring him something back - Erin recently had been fulfilling that need. He didn't feel bad about it at all. He assumed it was his right to be served as such and so with little guilt he tore into the rabbit which had been brought for him.

In truth his leg had begun to get better not long after his tumble in the stream. It seemed only to have been a bruise but he had kept the pretense up - kept the female with him for these couple of days. He wanted her close for more than one reason - first was her company. She was pretty, young and delicate, he liked her and, to be honest, wanted her. When he wanted a female it became an obsession with him somewhat - until he had gotten her then the thrill of the chase turned to the monotony of a relationship and he got bored of them... Secondly, be delaying her return to her home, he was keeping the others from finding out he had come back as well as finding out a lot of useful information about the territory and wolves within it.

Being waited on hand and foot by the female you wanted was something Helios had missed about being away from his old pack. There he had high standing amongst the females and could take his pick. Whilst travelling with Erin he had found few females and none open to him.

Looking back up at the pretty white female he studied her again. He had all the informaion he needed now, or so he thought, and he could concentrate on his second goal. Her. She was small for her size, probably the runt of her litter or perhaps born late in the season. She was a pure snowy white though right now she had a few splashes of blood across her chin where the rabbit had stained it. The blood matched her eyes, which were bright and held no hint of malice, a portal to a delicate soul, he thought. Her soft nose and paws her tinged with pink, too, delicate and soft looking like the rest of her. She looked like a spring blossom...

Sighing slightly, as if in pain, he moved closer to her. "You have some blood on you..." he said, softly, coming closer to her. He hoped their continual contact for several days might mean she wouldn't shy away - otherwise this might be harder than he had hoped.

Persephone stood back as Helios moved forwards to the rabbit, allowing him to take whatever share he wanted of it. She hadn't eaten too well in the last couple of days herself, but she wasn't hurt. The golden wolf obviously needed the food more than she did.

"I'm glad," she said, smiling faintly as she replied to him. As he commented about the blood on her, she shook her head, the smile remaining. "It's just rabbit blood - it's nothing." It wasn't like she had hurt herself or anything - she wasn't that bad at hunting, afterall. Well, she hadn't hurt herself yet anyway.

As Helios came closer to her, the albino female watched him, seeming a little puzzled about what the larger wolf was doing. Persephone was nothing if not naive.

Helios intent was to lick the blood from her muzzle, initiate, he hoped, that first, tentative physical contact. He had rather hoped the albino female would swoon - he was a romantic fool, he told himself.

Just as he was about to do so, a shadow appeared in the cave entrance. Worried, the big male looked around, eyes straining to see who the sillhouetted form was. It became clear all too quickly as the ducking manner and shuffling gait could be made out. CURSE HER. Could she not have waited for a more convenient time!? Still, he had to keep the act up...

"Erin! You've found us! I was beginning to get worried!

Erin was terrified... Helios rarely asked after her health and never, as far as she knew, worried about her. She wondered what trick the big male was up to, if this was some sort of sick revenge for her long absence. Of course she'd known he'd be angry but it really wasn't her fault. Caught up with others, with finding him food, it had taken her farther than she realised and the track back had involved finding him when his scent had dissappeared over a river....

"I'm.. I'm sorry Helios.." she murmered quietly, wondering what insults he'd throw at her. Helios generally didn't hurt her physically - he wasn't the kind of male, b*****d though he was, to hurt such a weak little female who would probably would have broken under any attack. No. Helios jabbed at her with words and jibes and scathing remarks. Erin had long since hardened her heart to these sort of things from most others but from her bother it still caused a pang. He did only tend to be quite so bad when he was angry, though.

The small female noticed, then, the other wolf. She had come across the recent tracks and spoor of what she assumed must be this female but she had thought that it was just one of the pack wolves going about her business. She had not expected to find the small, young she-wolf int he cave with Helios. Then again, why should she be surprised...

It was now that the dowdy brown female began to understand Helios' tone, his geniality. An act for his new fancy. She almost pitied the white but found she had little left for those who flung themselves on Helios because of his good looks and shallow charm. She didn't realise the tricks her sibling had used to keep this one here.

Not knowing what to say the brown kept her mouth firmly shut.

Helios, seeing that Erin had caught on to his idea, grinned. "Persephone, this is Erin, my companion. Erin, this is Persephone she has been helping me since my foot was hurt whilst travelling. He smiled in a slightly embarrassed manner, a show for Persephone. He always imagined Erin fell for his ploys, too, but somewhere deep down he knew she saw through them but simply accepted them as part of him. It was another one of the complex reasons the pair travelled together.

As Helios greeted Erin, Persephone spun around towards the entrance. Judging by the golden wolf's delighted words, and her appearance, the wolf that was there was clearly his lost companion. Persephone gave the small brown wolf a delighted smile, her crimson eyes sincere. She took a few steps towards Erin, before pausing a respectful distance away.

As Helios introduced them, Persephone bowed her head a little before smiling again at the brown wolf. "It's nice to meet you. Helios was so worried about you - I'm glad that you've managed to find each other again."

Persephone glanced between the pair for a moment. She wondered if they were mates, like Zagreus and Calliope. Helios did seem very glad to see Erin, although the brown female hadn't yet said anything. Maybe she was just quiet though.

Erin paused a moment after the young female greeted her and her heart nearly broke. This young one was truly innocent? Poor thing.. Erin had never gotten in Helios' way before, she'd never dare and to be honest it had never occured to her. Out here, though, away from the influence of the pack, away from all the complications that used to surround them, Erin wondered if she might try to help this young one in some way.

It was a bit of a dream, really, she wasn't strong enough yet to take on the half-bully half-brother who had ruled her life for so long. Erin nodded her head back to the wolf, her smile genuine as she replied "It's nice to meet you too, Persephone, thank you for looking after Helios." Out loud Erin never called Helios her brother. He seemed to be somewhat ashamed of that connection to her and would, at most, refer to her as half-sister or some such thing which distanced their relationship. Erin didn't mind too much but all of her father's other children had done the same. It was something which had saddened her since she was young.

Helios, frustrated, wondered how he might rid himself of the dark female for another few hours, how he might go about getting some time on his own with Persephone again. "Erin, Persephone has been hunting for me these last few days but she's had little for herself... I'm sorry to ask you when you're so newly back but perhaps you could help by getting her a little something? I feel bad that I cannot help but I would like it if I could show my appreciation somehow... and you at least know where we are now?"
Yes, that seemed ok. Made him look good, got her out of the way and left him alone for a while with Persephone... He really was rather clever, he thought.

The small brown wolf nodded, taking it as an order. She was almost glad at the thought of getting back out of the way of the pair. "I'd be happy to." She smiled a little at the female. "You look a little tired.."

Persephone nodded her head again, smiling at the brown wolf. "It was the least I could do, really.." Afterall, it had been her fault the golden wolf had been hurt.

As Helios suggested that Erin hunt for food for Persephone, the albino shook her head slightly. "Really, you don't need to do that. I'm fine - I'm not all that hungry." She grinned a little sheepishly. "Afterall, I'm a lot smaller than Helios - I don't exactly need as much food." It wasn't that she wasn't hungry - she kind of was, in truth - but she didn't want to trouble the small brown female. Afterall, Erin could have been travelling around for days without much rest or food herself. She didn't look like the best fed of wolves..

Just after she finished speaking, the albino's stomach gave a small yet audible grumble. "Well.. maybe I am hungry and tired a little..." she admitted.

The brown female nodded as if the decision had been made and wandered out of the shelter, wondering where she might find some prey close by. She had searched most of the area on the other side of the river but not this side. Setting off at a trot she quickly dissappeared from sight - glad to be out of Helios' way when he seemed to be up to one of his plans...

Aha! She was gone. Good! Helios turned his attention back to Persphone. "Erin likes hunting, she often goes off to hunt by herself... it's how I got seperated from her in the first place." He smiled a little as if he was ever-so-indulgent of Erin's 'odd' habits.

He wondered how he might get back to the position he had been in only moments before. Hmm... "Maybe you should lie down if you're tired Persephone, my sweet.. I'm sorry I have tired you with my needs and wants..." his look was baleful, as if he had failed her in some way. "Perhaps when... if I get better I can get hunt for you or something, to make up for all the care you've shown me" he had no intention of anything of the sort but he knew the small female was very likely not to press him into doing anything.

Persephone looked as though she was about to protest for a brief moment as Erin left the cave. After a short pause, the albino female nodded her head and padded back deeper into the cave. Sitting down, Persephone looked back over at Helios.

"Really, don't worry about it - I'm fine." She smiled at him reassuringly, believing that his concern was sincere. "You don't have to do anything for me - it was my fault that you got hurt in the first place. I should have kept looking for a better place to cross the river."

Easing herself into a more comfortable position to lie down, the small wolf rested her head on her paws. In truth, she wouldn't mind napping for a little while.

The large, golden wolf smiled easily as he came over to the young female, limping all the while. With a sigh he eased his body down beside her, his good eye searching her face for any sign that she might flee. She had been here so long, they had gotten so close, that Helios felt he was merely a hair's breadth away from having what he wanted from her.

"Persephone... " he said quietly, almost a whisper. "There's something I have to talk to you about..." his voice was quiet, almost a murmer as he leaned close as if conspiriatorially. His body was tingling as he thought of the chase this one had been. Oh so pure she was, so naive. And now his. His muzzle grazed hers lightly as he moved in for the kill.

The thrill of the chase, this was what Helios lived for.

<---------------------~oOo~--------------------->
Several Hours Later...

Erin returned, exhausted. It had been freezing cold out and prey was all too scarce. In her may she carried all she had managed to find - a fat water vole and a brown mouse, each having had to be dug out of their burrows. Her small body was cool, shivering, the fine fur which coated it barely able to keep the last scraps of her warmth in.

She could sense the two were still there and paused, wonder wether she aught to stay outside. Helios would not be kind if she interrupted him again... She listened for a little while until she had ascertained that at least one wolf slept - she could tell by Helios' grunting snores.

Scooting in, she let her eyes adust to the dimness after the bright snow and called out quietly. "Persephone... are you awake?"

To say that Persephone had been unprepared for her current situation was a bit of an understatement. She had thought that she was simply helping a wolf in need, but now she wasn't quite so sure. Things had run out of her control, and before she knew it, here she was. The young albino lay silently in the cave, curled up and running over the thoughts in her mind. Helias' snores rang out into the silence as he lay sleeping nearby. What had she done?

The thought also crossed her mind that she had been gone from the pack for a while.. They were probably starting to get worried about her. She should have told them what she was doing. As all these worries ran over her mind, Persephone didn't notice Erin slipping into the cave. When the small wolf called to her, the albino female started slightly, jerking up to peer over at the cave. Glancing over at the large sleeping form before she looked back to Erin, Persephone replied quietly.

"I'm here.."

The tiny female scuttled over to one side of the overhang, dropping her catch. One she left for Helios when he woke up, the other she brought to the pale female, letting the fat water vole drop close to her.

For herself she took nothing, only moving out of the way to shake her bedraggled fur dry. Chilled, she came to the back of the cave and curled up against the wall as far as she could from Helios. She didn't hate him but right now she was feeling as though she wished she had stayed at home. At least there, despite being treated similarly, she was guaranteed a warm bed and her own food. He was her brother, though. She didn't want to abandon him, couldn't really. He needed her.

Her violet eyes swam up to look at the pale female, wondering what devices the male had used apart from the injury she was sure he was only feigning. It wasn't her fault she had been sent out and the shy female shouldn't blame her. "Do you live near to here?" she wondered. Erin and Helios had come across Zagreus and Ouranos (both their kin, to differing extents) and she wondered if somehow Helios had seduced away one of their pack for some nefarious reason other than his own pleasure.

She was not as manipulative as her wily cousin but she was intelligent and despite often despising his methods she could understand them and appreciate that his mind sometimes worked more deeply than his outward personality would sem to show. She despised herself that she couldn't just tell this to the innocent young female who lay nearby.

Persephone sat upright, watching the brown female as she entered the cave quietly. Her mind was in aturmoil just now, and she was glad for some company other than Helias' resounding snores. As Erin offered her the water vole, the albino offered her a faint smile in return.

"Thank you.." Noticing that Erin appeared to have nothing for herself, Persephone looked at her questioningly. "What about yourself?" It wasn't fair if the one who did all the work had to go hungry.

"The lands here belong to my pack," she replied in response to Erin's question. "I don't usually come down so far though - I normally stay further north. I just stayed because Helias was hurt and it was my fault..." She trailed off, glancing over at the sleeping form of the large male.
PostPosted: Mon Mar 12, 2007 3:24 pm

Erin shook her head. "I'll be allright, I'm not hungry" she lied, not wanting the female to feel troubled by the fact she was not eating. Helios would find out, would goad and pester and prod and bully if she did and she didn't want to deal with that. She smiled a little at recieving the thanks - it was rare that she did. In fact the female could not remember the last time she'd truly been thanked for anything she'd done...

Erin nodded as her thoughts were confirmed, thinking that this young female was doubly unfortunate to be snared in Helios' web of deceit. She wasn't sure what to say to the female, wasn't even sure what Helios would and would not be happy to say. She thought the big male was probably lying about the extent of his injuries but she did wonder how the pair had come to be together. "What happened, exactly?" she queried timidly, shivering a little as she tried to warm her freezing body.

Persephone gazed at Erin for a moment. She didn't feel right about eating when the other female hadn't any for herself, even if she did say that she wasn't hungry. Rising to her feet, Persephone picked up the vole and moved over to Erin. Sitting down beside the shivering wolf, she placed the kill down again.

"Are you sure? We could share..?" she offered. As Erin asked about what had happened, Persephone glanced over at Helios again before beginning to speak.

"Well.. I met Helios a few days ago. He said that he had lost you and was looking for you. He asked me to show him the lay of the land.. So I did, but we had to cross a river. Helios slipped on one of the stones and hurt himself.. If I'd looked for an easier crossing, then perhaps he wouldn't have gotten hurt.."
