I'm quite sure you've heard about 'them' .
But did anyone actually discover who they are?
Or do they actually exist?
Well.... This question might be running through your mind .WHO ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?Quote: They once said that . . . .
Quote: You know what they say, . . . . This is who I'm talking about.
They. I don't know who they are.
But they appear to be wise people.
What are your opinions on this strange group?

"They" don't really exsist their main purpose is to be there when people make something up and want people to believe them, the person can be like, "they" told me it was true, and well then no one will question that, since everyone is completely clueless to who "they" are, but don't want to be an idiot and ask.
Actually I have no idea, but hmm now I want to know.

.... Uh, They is just group of people from either today or from past. They don't have to be wise or stupid exactly, they can be anybody. If I was told "Hey dude, they said it was ok", they could be 1 parent 2 policemen 3 teacher 4 etc etc etc
They is just word for people, and they is also made from past, and like I said, they don't have to be wise or stupid specifically, just watch out when someone use 'they' and do not know who they is.

In the case of "you know what they say", 'they' just means past generations that have used the expression that is about to come up. However, if you wanted to look at another theory, you might say that 'they' are a conspiracy of aliens that held our ancestors captive for centuries but then had to flee, but not before brain-washing them : the 'they' expressions are the small bits of memory that survived the brainwashing. XP Either way.

i know a politician who kept trying to influence people by saying thoings like that
"they say..."
"they won't stand for it..."
"they are extremely upset..."
and when we finally checked into it, the source of all this stuff turned out to be...
his wife!

I think that the "they" that so many refer to are a just a large group of people. Something like "you know what they say" basically refers to the general public and it turned into a phrase that is commonly used in everyday life. Or it could refer to a past popular group. But nobody knows for sure.

Using the word "they" is just a way to use a passive sentence by making it an active sentence. Instead of saying "It is said that..", you can say "they say.."

Basically, its a term used for implying "it has been said before". Though, by saying that, it makes your whole statement fall apart, don't you think?
"You know that people have actually said that.. blah blah blah." "You know that they've said that... blah blah blah."
I guess you could say that its a sentence shortener... XD

I suppose 'they' are supposed to be a collective consciousness of authority figures or people in the know. No one seems to be able to remember the exact sources that they learnt thing from so they come up with a 'they' to fill the position. When talking about religion 'they' could simply be the leading religious heads... etc.

"They" are the people who await in the shadows and create random cliches that generalize everything and create a widespread belief.
"They" are the nothings...well ok more like the super-cliche-awsome-force-of-doom. but nothings or Scafod is easier to say.
yeah >.>;

They are the people whom have "experienced" what the receiver is experiencing, or acting. The ones whom are wiser than themselfs.
