Corey Taylor's most famous and well known band. A band rivaling Mushroomhead in total members. And sometimes refered to as "Creators & Pioneers of Nu Metal".

The story of SlipKnoT starts in Des Moines, 1993 when Anders Colsefini had this idea of wanting to create the world's greatest and most influencial band. He began to enlist players for the band first one being Shawn "Clown" Crahan. He was the band's original drummer before Joey Jordinson joined and replaced him. In 1996 he came across a demo tape from a local band named Stone Sour and he got in touch with the lead singer, Corey Taylor. Anders asked Taylor to be a part of his band and later that year Taylor along with his guitarist, James Root joined what would be called "SlipKnoT' (refering to different influences and sounds). In 1997 the band released their first album, Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat but the album didn't sell mainly due to lack of advertisement and also because it was a self release. Later that year the band started to fall apart due to failed expectations and recalled records. Early in 1998 their first album fell into the lap of a Roadrunner exec who listened to the album and gave Taylor a call. Taylor scrambled to call the remaining members but only got 8 of the original line up. They were signed to Roadrunner and later that year began to rework their first album into what would become their debut album, SlipKnoT. The band hit it big with their first single for Wait and Bleed the album's most played song. Their follow up Spit It Out was another great hit but because of their weird sound never got much airplay outside of Iowa. In 1999 an unofficial version of SlipKnoT's first DVD, Welcome to Our Neighborhood was released but not until the release in 2001 did it catch much attention. Soon after their success with their self titled album SlipKnoT entered the studio to record their 3rd album aptly named IOWA. The album was released in 2001 and quickly rose to become one of SlipKnoT's most aggressive album to date in both vocals, lyrics, and playing. Their first single My Plague caught the attention of many and their follow up Left Behind soon to follow. During their tour that year the band released their first official DVD titled DISASTERPIECES which still is the band's greatest DVD release to date. In late 2001 Taylor recieved a call from Josh Rand who wanted to reform Stone Sour. Taylor and Root sat down with Rand and had a look at the songs he had wrote and saw possibility. So with the connections Taylor had, he was able to reluctanly sign Stone Sour to Roadrunner. In 2002 the band recorded their first single Bother for the Spiderman Sountrack. Later that year they released their self titled debut album with much criticism saying "Stone Sour is a rip off SlipKnoT" but even with the criticism Stone Sour's album went platinum and won a Grammy for Best Rock Album. Early 2003 Taylor and Root returned with SlipKnoT and started to write their 4th album titled Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) released in 2003. The album got a lot of bad comments and criticism that their sound had completely changed and that is album was nowhere near as heavy as their previous two. Eventually becoming SlipKnT's least sold album (while on Roadrunner). In an interview Taylor explained "This album is heavy in it's own way by not stating blatant in your face s**t but rather bombarding your subliminal consciousness with underlaying messages. If you don't like our album, then ******** you." In early 2004 the band geared up for it's first headlining tour with Lamb of God and Shadow's Fall called The Subliminal Verses Tour. During the tour SlipKnoT was able to record their very first live album titled 9.0: Live which was released in 2005. Later that year Taylor and Root again left SlipKnoT and returned to Stone Sour beginning to record their Sophomore album. But during the recording process long time drummer Joel Ekman left the band due to personal issues. Stone Sour recruited Roy Mayorga of Soulfly and finished recording. Their album, Come What(ever) May was released August 1, 2006 and due to it Stone Sour distanced themselves from SlipKnoT as much as possible with their smash hit Through Glass. But yet again criticism claimed that the new album was not their flavor and that they had strayed from their original sound. Soon after the release Stone Sour accompanied KoRn on the Family Values Tour. On December 6, 2006 the label pieced together SlipKnoT's livest and most rarest preformances, interviews music vids, ect in a collection titled Voliminal: Outside the 9. Currently the band is on hiatus and is expected to reunite in late '07, early '08 and release their final record with Roadrunner (their contract is expiring).

Definately no the creators of Nu-Metal, that is all Korn. I truthfully think they are metal. Just because they have turn tables it doesn't matter. I men, other people may not think so but I think they are sort of Death Metal but not really. But definately not Nu-Metal, of course the song Eyeless is I guess.

Read what the critics said about IOWA and you'll see that they were the first band to be labeled as "Nu Metal".

But Korn made Nu-Metal in 1994, definately the makers, I just think that Slipknot isn't really Nu-Metal, they're still kickass though.

Well, no one actually 'made' nu-metal - critics cooked it up to describe the new sound. But Korn definitely were the pioneers, along with Fear Factory and Machine Head.

And I feel that the discussion going on in the Korn Thread will be transferred to here eek

Actually to real metalheads the genre known as "Nu Metal" doesn't even exist instead most bands that the idiot critics classify as Nu Metal are actually either Malecore bands or Metalcore bands.

Timeline wise, the genre known as Nu Metal did not emerge until 2000, so before then KoRn was just known as Rock/Experimental.

When I was 11, I joined a Green Day forum. It brainwashed me into thinking that Slipknot was a bad band. All because the lead singer disliked the band...because of thier masks. I haven't been to that forum because of all the jackasses there. Hopefully, I can see on day that Slipknot is a good band. Any suggestions on a song so I can slip out of this trance? whee
