The new fallen snow was illuminated by the moonlight and Fortune was getting antsy. The mare had ran out of things to do and, truthfully, she was becoming more and more bored.
Now she was staring at the frozen lake and wondering why it was frozen over and how the little fishies were fairing.
At least it couldn't eat her feet now. Fortune sighed and gently poked her hoof at the ice.
Was it safe to walk on? She generally avoided the lake at all costs, winter or not.

He emerged from the woods, letting the moonlight bathe his coat, dancing through the wraith-like arms of the nearby tree branches to cast shadows across his pale face. To the last mare he'd come across he had been a frightening sight... He had done his best to avoid most since then, not wishing to appear as a ghost to any other than those he sought out. Of course, sometimes one managed to come across another when they were least expecting it... Now would have been one of those nights. "What am I to learn from this?" He murmured to himself as he stepped forward, quietly clearing his throat to alert the mare to his presence.

The green haired mare turned her head and looked at him, not finding his appearance too odd or creepy, really. Truthfully, Fortune thought she looked a little more strange with her bright green markings on her otherwise black body.
At least black and white went together. "Hello!"
Damn, she was cheerful this evening. Flicking her tail lightly she touched the ice again, "Can I get your opinion? You think the ice would hold me?"

This mare was certainly far different than the last mare he'd met and that alone brought a slight smile to strangely curved lips. Amazingly, he even found himself chuckling. "That woud all depend, I suppose... How thick do you think the ice is and how much do you believe you weigh? The ice might be more likely to hold a spectre than a mare... But one never knows. The nights have been colder, haven't they?"

"I don't know," Fortune said, putting on a contemplating look as she stared at the ice, "I don't think I weigh too much but I don't know how thick the ice is. Huh. Maybe I should drag a two-legger on and see if it can hold THEM."
She grinned at the black stallion and took a step forward, "Yeah, it is kind of cold," kind of being an understatement, "I'm Fortune. Who're you?"

"Crow could probably find out... But he has gone to nest for the night." Unlike most other nights, of course. Then again, his feathered companion had taken to keeping watch durring the day since he himself had taken to being awake all night.
He took a step back as the mare took a step forward, leaving enough room for him to bow his head politely. "My pleasure to meet you, Fortune... Or, perhaps it is my luck... Or Lady Fate, who does guide us as she wishes. I am Draven... Eric Draven."

Oh! This one was polite. It was not lost on Fortune and she gave a small bow in return, though, as usual, face planted into the snow. She didn't have the best balance, most of the time. In fact, Fortune was generally quite the klutz. Giggling softly she pulled herself up, some of the white snow clinging to her coat.
"Nice to meet you, Eric. Do you prefer Eric or Draven or...Ed? Or..."

His brow lofted slightly, using his 'mask' to hide a chuckle as he moved closer, giving the mare's shoulder a gentle nudge. "Careful... The snow may be soft but it is cold... And wet. Being wet in the cold is rarely a good idea. As for what I prefer to be called?" He paused for a moment, thinking of the many things he had been called over time... "Draven, please." Only she had called him Eric...

"Draven it is then! Forgive me." She smiled as she was nudged, "Being wet in the cold is simply an excuse to go nudge up beside a two-legger's fire without looking like a total goof."
Her head tilted to the side as she looked at him, "Who is Raven?"

He seemed to bristle at the mention of fire, but that reaction was only momentarily and soon replaced by a sort of fondness as he spoke of his winged companion. "Crow... He is just that. A crow who has chosen me as a companion or, perhaps, in my time alone I chose him. We have been traveling together for many moons now."

Fortune didn't notice his bristling. She probably wasn't the most observant, either. Not to say that she was unintelligent but at the moment she was too busy getting to know this new stallion.
"Oh, Crow. I'm bad with names." If she could have blushed, she would have. Instead she looked a bit sheepish and toed the ground, "It must be nice to have a companion. I just wander around alone. At least, I rarely get bored. Apparently, I'm strange."
Another grin before she looked back to the ice, "Wanna try the ice with me?"

"Strange?" Odd. Did all Soquili around here consider others who were slightly different than them strange? "You aren't strange. Different than others, perhaps... But certainly not strange."
His eyes drifted towards the ice for a moment before his gaze returned to the mare. "... Do you know the signs to watch for so that you know when ice will break?"

That made her laugh, "Well, thank you. I think you and Safi are the only ones who think I'm not off my rocker."
Sure, the others were nice to her but she had a feeling they thought her very very weird. But that was okay! Fortune liked being different.
"No, I don't. Do you?"

"They often say that birds of a feather tend to flock together..." He looked away from her as he said this, slowly making his way towards the lake. He placed one hoof on the frozen surface. "To walk on ice you take it one step at a time... You must listen very carefully. Ice makes sounds just before it breaks... You must also watch very carefully. Sometimes, if you're watching carefully enough, you can see the cracks forming..."

"That, they do." She followed him tentatively onto the ice, "Aww, I thought it'd be fun to scoot across it, like...float...or glide...or slide...or...Uh..." Whatever that word was. She couldn't exactly think of it at the moment but it sounded like fun.
"You think that'd be too dangerous? I just wanna have fun." Fortune bent her head down and looked close at the ice as she took another step, sniffing at it and trying her best not to fall over. It worked, for now.
